Youth Hunt Change
I was talking to a friend that has been in this longer than most of us have lived. He came up with what I thought sounded like a good idea.
Instead of haveing youth hunt championships. Why don't they do to a point system. The kids get so many points for each hunt they win(more for bigger hunts or how ever you want to set it up) then highest points win, second highest and so on.
Then a kid would have to hunt instead of show up at one hunt with dad's best hound.
Just a thought..........what do yawl think????????????

I think UKC and most of those involved like a " National" weekend totally devoted to the kids. It gives a World Hunt type of feeling to the event and makes the kids feel very special which is probably the greatest asset of this event. Does the format assure the best dog or handler wins? No. But who or what wins is prolly less important than giving them the big time feeling they get from one big weekend.

What percentage of the kids involved in all hunts is able to make a national hunt? How many kids would hunt more local hunts for the chance at the title. How many of them would turn down a partying night for a hunting night. I think it would bring it up on the list of things to do. Because it would make every hunt important.
If you want a big hunt let the top so many get together and hunt it off. That gets you back to only the ones with money can make it though.
