Hide Dog, Fur dog, Patch Hunter

What do all of these terms mean exactly, I have heard of people selling hide dogs and etc. Just wondering what happened to all of the coondogs!!!! Is a hide dog a dog that will tree anything?

a hide dog and a fur dog are the same. it's a dog that is well broke and strait and when he trees he has the coon. a patch hunter cast his dog in a patch of timber and if his dog doesn't strike it comes back and he will move to a diffrent patch of timber and try it again,if his dog does tree one he will still move to a diffrent patch of timber.

The dogs you described (meat dog, patch dog) are in demand by fellows who like dogs to tree coons and not half to spend hours tracking down a dog that blew through a patch and went deep looking for a coon. I have several older coonhunting buddies that hunt this type of dog, you couldn't give them a go yonder Grand Nite Champion.
