lemon beagle pics ?
Looking for pics of lemon colored dogs, and if you breed them to a tri-colored dog how do they come out?
Lemon Pups
You will get some Lemon pups but mostly Tri-colored pups.
Lemon/red/tan color in Beagles (along with chocolate/liver & blue/silver) is recessive. Both parents must carry the lemon gene for the puppies to come out lemon.
For example:
If you breed a tricolor Beagle who carries the recessive gene for lemon, to a tricolor Beagle who carries for lemon, you will get approx 25% lemon puppies (same applies to tricolors who carry for chocolate or blue), 50% tricolor puppies who carry the recessive gene for lemon, and 25% puppies who do not carry the recessive gene for lemon.
If you breed a tricolor Beagle who does not carry the recessive gene for lemon, to a tricolor Beagle who carries the recessive gene for lemon, you will get approx 25% tricolor puppies who carry the recessive gene for lemon and 75% tricolor puppies who do not carry the recessive gene for lemon.
If you breed a tricolor Beagle who does not carry the recessive gene for lemon , to another tricolor Beagle who does not carry the gene for lemon, 100% of the puppies will be tricolor and will not carry the recessive gene for lemon.
Also:
Lemon (obviously carries for lemon) X Tricolor (carries for lemon) = 75% lemon pups, 25% tricolor pups who carry for lemon
Lemon X Tricolor (does not carry for lemon) = 100% tricolor pups who carry for lemon
Lemon X Lemon = 100% lemon pups
It gets complicated when they also carry for chocolate (liver) or blue (silver) because they can also be born genetically:
Chocolate & Blue = Lilac
Lemon & Blue (lemon with a blueish cast)
The gene for lemon is "e". A dog who is "EE" is a tricolor who does not carry for lemon. "Ee" is a tricolor dog who carries for lemon. "ee" is a lemon dog.
The gene for Chocolate is "b". A dog who is "BB" is a tricolor who does not carry for chocolate. "Bb" is a tricolor dog who carries for chocolate. "bb" is a chocolate dog.
The gene for blue is "d". A dog who is "DD" is a tricolor dog who does not carry for blue. "Dd" is a tricolor dog who carries for blue. "dd" is a blue dog.
It gets complicated when you look at all three markers:
EE BB DD = tricolor dog who does not carry for lemon, chocolate or blue
Ee BB DD = tricolor dog who carries for lemon, but does not carry for chocolate or blue
EE Bb DD = tricolor dog who carries for chocolate, but does not carry for lemon or blue
EE BB Dd = tricolor dog who carries for blue, but does not carry for lemon or chocolate
Ee BB Dd = tricolor dog who carries for lemon & blue, but does not carry for chocolate
Ee Bb Dd = tricolor dog who carries for lemon, chocolate, & blue
ee BB DD = lemon dog who does not carry for chocolate or blue
EE bb dd = Lilac dog who does not carry for lemon
I'm sure you can now imagine all the possibilities.
Then there is the consideration of ticking. Ticking is a dominant gene, which means that in order to get ticked puppies - at least one parent must be ticked.
