Mix breed dogs
Do you guys fool much with cross breed hounds like walker/redbone cross? Had a possible mishap happen this weekend and if she has pups i thought some big game hunters might want them. Ran the male dog on bear and lion in Idaho not registered. Female is a nitech coonhound.

I have a couple of papered hounds but the rest are cross bred big game hounds from the old school out west. The papered hounds are great but a person would have to prove to me that a papered dog will catch more game than these old cross bred hounds.
Basically there isn't any difference between a papered hound and a cross bred hound that was bred by a qualified big game houndsmen other than color. Somebody bred walker color hounds and culled off colored dogs, same with redbone and so on. In fact, some of the best hounds that were off colored may well have been better dogs and never got the chance prove it because the breeder was breeding to a color, size and conformation standard. Most of the papered breeds were developed by inbreeding which may or may not develop the better hunting dog--it will, however, develop the color hound a person desires.....
