I only showed my puppy a cage coon only 1or 2 times and worked him on a hide and then carried him to the woods around some feed buckets

I start by putting a cage coon way out in the yard. The dogs go crazy and if the pup "monkey see monkey do" excited, I'll turn out an older dog and then the pup. If the pup backs up with all that I won't do it again for another week or two. Once the pup goes crazy by himself I might do it again the next day for two to three minutes. A long time ago I kept a coon around the corner of the barn and everyday when I started feeding I'd turn him out and let him bay. After about 4 or 5 days he would run around there and bay it a lick and then go check out other stuff.

After twice, I would take the pup to the middle of a big field and fasten him to the top of the dog box where he can see the coon leave. Then PUT THE CAGE AWAY prefferably in somebody elses truck and let them leave. Alots of pups will stop and bay the empty cage if you don't. Let the coon get out of sight and turn him loose. It might go good or not so good from there but thats why it's called training. Do a different field the next day or next time and maybe leave the pup in the box but PUT THE CAGE AWAY. And DON'T EVER LET HIM DO A SIGHT RACE. That ruins a trail dog. The one's he trees get knocked out to him, that's just me. You do what you want. After as much fur in the mouth as you want he is ready for some easy mutton corn coon.
