Momma Hound looking better than ever
My female had a litter of pups 8 weeks ago and was looking rather poor...imo...my friend though she looked good considering she just had 8 pups. I took them off the teet at a little over 6 weeks. I tried fattening her up a bit and now she looks meatier and healthier than the day I bought her.
Has anyone experienced this? This was my first litter. Does giving birth to pups create good hormones that improve a females health?
How did you fatten her up? When females have pups they loose their coats. When the pups are off her and she starts to come back her coat comes in better than before she had them. Pups drain the life out of a female. She needs more food during pregnancy and while nursing. A higher protein dog food is better. When she is nursing she should have free choice of food.
our female had 10 pups 3 and a half weeks ago and she was looking real poor for the first week or so, I was feeding her shawnee dog food, i switched to diamond and give her both high energy and puppy food and even tho she still has pups hanging from her she looks pretty darn good...Danni
