Kemmer people...need opinion

I have a yellow dog. I can't be sure what breed. He looks like a yellow show lab, but has a shorter nose, and when he drops his head, he has a wrinkle in the skin, like a bloodhound.
He has treed a squirrell, and choped, choped, choped.
He like to work stock, barking his big bark, and going for the head.
He tackles my other dogs, grabbing them by the ears, and throwing them. When I found this dog he was coming out of the mesquite, covered with wounds on his head ,chest, legs, and side. He is quite yellow, but has black skin.
Most people, including myself think he looks like a show lab, but I have seen pictures of yellow mouth and kemmer curs on websites which both look like him. He as no black on the muzzle, but the roof of his mouth is black. I have trained him on obedience and some retrieveing, but must keep him on leash or check cord, as he will not come when called. He'd rather follow his nose around the country. He has a choke bore nose, and when he hits a scent, he loses intrest in what you are having him do, and just chases that scent.
Do these characteristics favor the cur dogs?
Thanks for any opinion you can give.
I've tried hard to make this dog a lab, but it ain't easy.

First of all it's hard to tell what kind of dog it is without a picture. This suggestion may be way off base but here goes anyway. With what you are posting it sounds to me like it has some hound characteristics. Take a look at some Buckskin Plots and see if they look like your dog.

From what you describe and how he acts, combined with the black skin, my first guess would be a Black Mouth Cur. Not all of them have the dark face, but I have seen several different strains of the Black mouths that had the Black Skin. You say he was coming out of the mesquite which leads me to believe you are in the deep south or Texas area, which would also be a more common place for Black mouth curs. Most of these dogs are bred to track and trail game, and it will be hard to make him a Lab when he probably ain't.
