Silent at Tree

I have a female that is 16 months old. She runs track and trees with or without company. But once she gets treed she's silent. She has the coon but doesn't bark treed, just puts 2 feet on the wood and looks up. She's never blew the top out of it but she use to bark treed at least til I got there. But tonight I had to walk 900 yards to her and never heard her bark once on the way to her yet she had 3 coons up the tree when I got there. I've tried tying her back once I get there but that doesn't help. She's crazy over the coon once it hits the ground. Anybody have any suggestions on how to get her barking treed?

Yes. She barks on track.

Ears

Get her ears checked out. They look up and it puts a strain on them. Might be in pain.

I agree 100 %. Sounds like a health issue of some kind.

I have one silent on ground but a forever more tree dog. We could just hunt together.

I wouldn't worry about it, you will be able to hunt her anywhere in the country that you please! Lol. But in all seriousness I agree I would get her ears checked out.

Mark is right, dont give it another coon, tie the dog back where you think the coon will hit the ground and what ever you do do not let the dog put a tooth on that coon and just lead the dog away.

Might take 15 coon, and once it begins to bark then maybe let it have one,and repeat this process until it gets it right.

Might be an ear issue but I doubt it, probly mostly genetics.

The problem might be you're still getting to her.She doesn't have to bark to get you there.I'm guessing you trained her with the GPS on every step of the way,and when she was real young you got in there and found her coon for her sometimes ,put her on the tree and shot out the coon.I might be wrong but I'd get into where you are about 100 yards from her then stop and wait for her to bark treed.Dont give her any till SHE shows you where they are ,not your GPS.I might be completely off here and you can tell me if I am.If I'm wrong ,get her ears checked

I took a drag coon out last night and put it up a tree trying to start back from square one and she was blowing the top out of it. She has a pretty nice tree bark when she does bark that's why I haven't gave up on her yet. I like the idea on waiting 100 yards on her to start treeing. I'll def give that a try.

Posted by novicane65 on 10-14-2015 11:48 AM:

It kinda sounds like she's treeing on sight not scent to me.

I wouldn't do any more cage coons for her. And when you do a drag make sure you have it put back up before you unsnap her. Just my $ 0.02

Posted by Wade Kuhns on 10-14-2015 08:56 PM:

Good luck with her ,hope she turns it on for you.

Posted by Matt L. Moyer on 10-16-2015 09:05 PM:

I am having a similar problem....

Hunting a young female that started up by herself and is hunted by herself. When she started up she was a decent tree dog then out of nowhere she quit treeing. She opens good on the ground and will tree a little bit on some trees and others she is belly up and only whimpers and she will have the coon either way. Doesn't seem to matter if I get there quickly or if it takes a half hour, she would stay there all night. She has forced me to come out of the stone ages and get a GPS system LOL.

I have seen a couple responses talking about ear problems. What is it about their ears that could cause this? - so I can have my vet check it out.

Thanks for any info.

Matt

Matt have them check for ear mites or yeast infection.. Hope you are doing well!

Duane good to hear from ya....thanks!

Just my thought

This may be the most informative post I have seen on here in a long time. Now for my$0.02 worth for me I would try all of the sugestions posted and in the order posted for the most part. BUT I have had dogs with ear problems before and KNOW what effect it has on them so that would be my first step period if all is good there then go to the next step.

Those ears can wreak havoc on one. Me an HL dont have enough coon to try the shooting coon put methods. We cant waste em.lol.

Thanks for the responses. What type of ear problems? Yeast or mites like Duane suggested? Internal ear infections, fluid in/around the eardrum, crystals in the ears - similar to what causes vertigo in people?

Thanks,

Matt

If she had ear problems, would she tree hard on a drag? Wouldn't there be signs like shaking her head,or scratching at her ears? I have one treeing on some trees pretty good, and others she trees very little. These are trees with coon in them. Some times she just locates, and looks up.Most of those trees are dens. She trees real hard on a possum.Makes me wonder if mine is hot nosed, more than a ear problem.

Thanks,

It could be any of that. Usually they may shake their heads or hold it sideways but not all times. I had one and the only thing it affected was her treeing. Although she didnt quit. She slowed way down and gnawed real bad. Found out hers was like a yeast infection and a reoccurring problem byt as long as I cleaned them twice a month. She stayed healthy.
