Safeguard 10% fenbendazole is what I also use and is a relatively safe broad spectrum wormer. It effectively kills round worms, hooks, whips and one species of tape. In higher doses it can also reportedly kill some lung flukes but I've never used it for that. Make sure you worm them three days successively or it won't work. My dogs don't pay any attention to it and I just squirt it on their food when I feed them three days in a row.

Safeguard 10% for ascarids (Toxocara canis, T. leonina), Hookworms (Ancylostoma caninum, Uncinaria stenocephala), whipworms (Trichuris vulpis), and tapeworms (Taenia pisiformis)

I dose mine at 0.23cc/lb orally or 1.15cc/5lb orally repeat 3x daily.

Actual Dosage From the Product

Practical dosage recommendations: Up to 1 kg 0.5 ml daily for 3 days 1 to 2 kg 1 ml daily for 3 days 2 to 4 kg 2 ml daily for 3 days 4 to 6 kg 3 ml daily for 3 days 6 to 8 kg 4 ml daily for 3 days 8 to 10 kg 5 ml daily for 3 days For puppies weighing over 10 kg, an extra 0.5 ml is required daily for each additional kg bodyweight. Puppies should be treated at 2 weeks of age, 5 weeks of age and again before leaving the breeder's premises. Treatment may also be required at 8 and 12 weeks of age. Thereafter, frequency of treatment can be reduced unless the pups remain in kennels where reinfection occurs more readily. Pregnant bitches 1 ml Panacur 10% Liquid per 4 kg bodyweight daily from day 40 of pregnancy continuously to 2 days post-whelping (approximately 25 days) (= 25 mg fenbendazole/kg bodyweight daily). Practical dosage recommendations: 4 kg 1 ml daily for approx. 25 days 8 kg 2 ml daily for approx. 25 days 12 kg 3 ml daily for approx. 25 days 20 kg 5 ml daily for approx. 25 days 40 kg 10 ml daily for approx. 25 days For bitches weighing over 40 kg, an extra 1 ml is required daily for each additional 4 kg bodyweight. As treatment of pregnant bitches is 98% effective, puppies from these bitches should themselves be treated with a three day course at 2 and 5 weeks of age. Pregnant queens Pregnant queens can be safely treated with Panacur but only require a single treatment at the routine adult dose rate. Administer 1 ml Panacur 10% Liquid per 1 kg bodyweight as a single dose (=100 mg fenbendazole/kg bodyweight). Increased dosing for specific infections For the treatment of clinical worm infestations in adult dogs and cats or Giardia spp. infections in dogs administer 1 ml Panacur 10% Liquid per 2 kg bodyweight daily for 3 consecutive days (= 50 mg fenbendazole/kg bodyweight daily for 3 days). For the control of lungworm Oslerus (Filaroides) osleri in dogs administer 1 ml Panacur 10% Liquid per 2 kg bodyweight for 7 consecutive days (= 50 mg fenbendazole/kg bodyweight daily for 7 days). According to what I read, I'm correctly dosing at 0.23ml/lb according to the 1ml/2kg dosing rate 3x?

I use safeguard because I can easily find it but Panacure 10% is the same. Where do you get yours from? I'm thinking about buying a whole liter since I dose 4 dogs about 3x per year.

Same product. Might need a script for Panacure. Niether of them kills heartworms.

Some report ivomec as the source of sterility in dogs however I find it interesting that more mainstream products like heartgard have ivermectin as the active ingredient. Just don't give it to your cross breeds

Heck I buy 1 gal per year and I can Treat all 30 hounds plus some pups for that year .. I pay $317 per Gal at the Local CoOp .. I also use the Ausi Brands of AllWormer Tablets to pick up the Tapes and anything else the Safe Guard won't .. Around 200 of those per year .. Plus Ivermectin Injectable ..

These are a Very Good Buy and Very Effective on All Canine Worms

Depends how many Mg in the Tube .. The Min.Dosage to be effective over a 3 day Period is 50 mg fenbendazole/kg bodyweight or around 22.5-25 mg Per Pound. And as I read the Paste is Each Gram of Paste Contains 100 mg of 10% fenbendazole .. 25 Grams of Paste = 2,500 mg Of Fenbendazole .. And A 60 # dog requires a Min Daley dosage of 1,500 mg. So that more like 3/4 of a 25 gram tube per Day to Be Effect.

David this is what I use and a vet told me , 1 ml or cc per 5 lbs, so 10 ml, or cc will worm a 50 lb dog , and that info came straight from a vet

Have you had any trouble buying things from Pet Shed? I saw the website a couple of months ago, but I was a little hesitant since they are located in Australia. I wasn't real sure I wanted to send my credit card information down to Australia. What is the usual turn-around time of ordering a product from them? Besides Pet-Shed, there are a few others located in Australia that you can get heartworm and other types of products without a prescription.

I have ordered from PetShed in the past.........Been a few years since I ordered from them. I always received my orders rather quickly - about 1.5 weeks normally. I do not know if things have changed since I last ordered, but orders would come from one of the Asian countries -- I believe it was the Philippines (but it has been a few years).

That dosage is exactly the way my vet told me to do it. A tube of horse wormer. Give the dog a 1/3 of the tube for three days.

They Do a Great Job getting your Order Out !! Never had a problem ..

Were still Ordering AllWormer 3 times a year .. The wife also uses the Same Tablets on her Cats !! Good Stuff

Praziquantel. 2.5- 3 Mg per Pound of Dog weight !!

Praziquantel is a powerful tapeworm-killing drug that is generally included in the vast majorityof commercially-available 'all-wormers' given to dogs and cats. It has a high margin of safety in dogs and cats(and many other species) and exhibits very good activity against most of the major tapeworm species affecting our domestic pets (including: the common flea tapeworm - Dipylidium caninum; the hydatidtapeworms - Echinococcus granulosus and E. multilocularis; the zipper worm - Spirometraand the many varieties of Taenia tapeworm species). It is because of this excellent activity against such a wide range of pet tapeworm parasites that praziquantel tends to be favoured overmost other anti-tapeworm medications in the control of hydatid tapeworms in domestic household animals.

How it works:
Tapeworms are coated in protein molecules that shield them from being recognized and attacked bythe host animal's immune system. These protein molecules turn over and shed from the tapeworm's body surfaceconstantly. By the time the host's immune system recognizes and starts to attack one lot of tapeworm surface molecules, these have been shed from the tapeworm's 'skin', leaving the immune system with nothing recognisable to attack.

Praziquantel works by disrupting the surface integument of the worm such that the animal's immune system is capable of recognizing the tape worm as foreign and actively attacking it. Additionally, praziquantelalso works by massively increasing the influx of calcium ions into the tapeworm's body. This calcium overload causesthe worm's muscles to become over-stimulated such that the worm develops stiffness and rigidity. The rigidtapeworm is unable to maintain its hold on the host's gut wall and is, consequently, voided from the animal's intestinal tract via the faeces.

Features of praziquantel:

�The treatment of choice for tapeworms in dogs and cats.
�Kills a wide range of cestode (tapeworm) species in people and animals.
�Kills Schistosoma - an important parasite of humans, which causes a terrible, often fatal, liver condition called bilharzia (common in third world countries).
�Also kills some forms of trematode (fluke) parasite in livestock animals.
�In very high doses, praziquantel also kills certain intermediate-stage, larval tapeworm forms. Unfortunately for us humans, praziquantel does not kill hydatid tapeworm cysts. It is possible that praziquantel may actually make alveolar hydatid disease worse in intermediate hosts like humans.
�Very effective at killing adult Dipylidium caninum flea tapeworms.
�Very effective at killing hydatid tapeworms.
�A dose of 2.5-5mg/kg is needed to kill Dipylidium. Most all-wormers contain 5mg/kg praziquantel, which is ample for killing this flea tapeworm.
�A dose of 5-10mg/kg is needed to kill hydatid tapeworms (Echinococcus species). The higher dose range is recommended to kill juvenile forms of the worms in dogs. Most all-wormers contain 5mg/kg praziquantel, which is within the dose range for killing these nasty tapeworms, however, given how dangerous hydatid tapeworm infestations are to people, if I was a dog owner living in a high hydatid risk situation, I would probably err on the side of caution and give the higher dose (10mg/kg). The drug should be given 6-weekly to keep hydatids under full control.
�Some tapeworms like Spirometra and Diphyllobothrium erinacei require an intermediate dose range (7.5mg/kg) be given on 2 consecutive days.
�Many of the tapeworms and flukes afflicting livestock animals need high doses of praziquantel if they are to be cleared (in the order of 15-30mg/kg and higher).
�Praziquantel, given orally, absorbs into the animal's body rapidly, reaching many organs including the liver and brain (this systemic absorption is why praziquantel is effective against Schistosoma and certain larval tapeworm forms).
�Praziquantel has a wide safety margin and is difficult to overdose (dogs were tested on up to 180mg/kg orally with little side effect).
�Praziquantel is thought to be safe in pregnant and breeding animals (check with your vet).
�Some praziquantel-containing products advise not using praziquantel in puppies or kittens under 4 weeks of age.

If you buy the Powder tub .. it contains 34mg per teaspoon so a 60# dog would require about 180 mg or 5-1/2 teaspoons .. The �Forte contains 170mg praziquantel per teaspoon so about 1-1/4 capusels for a 60# dog

for those of us that are totally metric challenged, can you tell me how much safeguard to give a 60lb dog - I usually use a syringe without a needle, so measurements in ccs or mls?

Ok If you HAVE been treating your dogs a Regular Sch. You can Treat with a Single Dosage .. One time with 30 ml or cc .. If you HAVE NOT been treating them, then Treat with 15 ml each day for 3 days ..

This Treatment will Kill Everything but Tapeworms and Heartworm ..

If you See Tapeworm Segments then Use Praziquantel as discribed above ..
