Made the switch to Blackgold

Well after 16 years of feeding Purina Dog Chow/ Hi Pro, I bought Blackgold today. I just could not stand the increase in price AND the decrease in pounds per bag. I still believe in Purina feed, but could not afford it. It worked out to $23 for 50 pounds of dog chow/ $18 for the BG. I notified Purina of my issues and hope others do as well.

Feed Black Gold a little while and you wont miss Purina. Its just as good a feed or better. Mine heat up less on Black Gold yellow bag than they do with anything.

I keep hearing about Purina changing the bag size, but it hasnt happened here yet.

Hi Pro is still in the 50# bags at 21.99 at TSC and our local Farm Supply store.

Hi Pro is in 50# bags at 24.99 at Petsmart.

I havent seen the 44# bags anywhere here in central KY.

Black Gold

I switched to Black Gold back in Jan. and I really like it. I am raising 3 litters of pups on it right now. I am feeding the pups the regular black bag of 26 x 18 and they are doing fine . The owner - Johnny Allen told me they will do as good on it !!!!!!!

up here Black Gold is more expensive than Purina (if you can even find it) and most of the dealers will not work with you much unless you buy a pallet

Everyone that is quitting Purina on price, have you noticed how the price of "everything" seems to be going up not just dog feed?

Black Gold

I buy Black Gold Silver Bag 23/16 two pallets at a time got a shipment coming tommorrow its went up over 3 dollars since my last shipment.

Posted by LARRY WEAVER on 07-31-2008 04:35 PM:

Eric, how much do you have to pay per bag when you take a ton at a time ?

Posted by mmerrill on 07-31-2008 05:09 PM:

Here in Neosho, Missouri Black Gold is $24.00 per bag. If you buy it by the pallet you get a $1.00 per bag break.
About 3 months ago it was $21.00 per bag w/ tax.
I think it's good feed, I just wish it was more affordable. If you're only feeding 2-3 dogs, it's not that bad. I feel sorry for the guys feeding several hounds.

I went back to PurinaOne early spring, 44lb bags were $29 a bag. They now have a new bag and emblem on em, still 44lb bags...now it's $34 per bag. Just got 4 bags..ouch! Despite the high price I'm sticking with it, it's really good feed, and easy for me to get anytime I want it.

Yes it is $18 for 50 pounds. Depends where you buy it though. Thios price is through Burkeville Southern States.

Posted by Jay Bird 76 on 07-31-2008 07:40 PM:

A different guy nearby sells it for $20.00 per black bag, so do some checkin around. You can go to Blackgolds web site and put your zip code in..it will tell you if anyone around you sells it. The price depends on who your buying from. Hope this helps.

Posted by cj. on 07-31-2008 07:53 PM:

Black gold is selling for 21.90 for a 50lb black bag around here..... My dealer is selling out so I'm looking for another feed. Do any feed stores sell purina by the pallet?

Ive fed diamond its a great dog food but here its very expensive. If I could afford to feed it, it would be my food of choice.
