How about this...
I too would love to "see" 16 of the top Redbones in the country hunt together but I don't see this happenening as another hunt to go to or run by another kennel club. Why don't we have a hunt on Thursday night during the All Redbone non-sanctioned Redbone Days Hunt for "The Best of the Best". All categories hunt together on Thursday Night anyways so it would not matter if they were Reg, Nt Ch or Grand. Although, I can't imagine one of the "best of the best" being a registered dog. We could have a category for the "Top 16" if possible, although it is doubtful if there are 16. The "Top 12" might be a more realistic goal to shoot for. They could pay a $50 entry fee with $20/entry or $40/ea going to a non-hunting guide and a non-hunting judge. A "sponsor or sponsors" could put up a $500 added purse that would go to the winner. That should generate some interest.
You would not have to come up with a separate hunt or time and place. Redbone Days is already in place with most of the Redbones in the country already planning to attend.. There would be no doubt as to who was running the hunt, the Association would do that.
Now would anyone be willing to enter this hunt at Redbone Days?
good luck
My guess is that until Richard runs for president the current powers will not allow a side money hunt. I would also guess that if you decided to do it anyway your scores would be -400 for not entering in the "real redbone days hunt.
I like the idea tho. I'm all for watching the dogs come in. Go for it !

Hey King---
Just move it to Wednesday night???
I heard that most of the, I mean, it is possible that some do show up early to get their "ducks" in a row.
My only question is, would this be open to grade and cross bred RED dogs too??

Great Idea!
I like the idea alot however my question would be how and who determines if a dog is worthy of being in the top 16 or 12. Would it go by titles, hunts attended with cast wins or hunt wins.... Like I said I like this idea alot but just wonder who would make the decision of classifying the top 16. I really hope this comes to reality.

Why not get Alan G & Corey to try a Super Slam for the reds only on Wednesday just before National days, its almost in their backyard this year. if it didn't fill up by the deadline no one losses their money.
As far as the top 16, or 12 that would be up to the owners, if they have the DEEP pockets to put up or shut up.
This way we could have a few qualified for that big hunt in Sept. And you might be surprised at who all would enter.

What about the leafy trees? Don't you guys want to know who has the top coon dog(s)? If held in June or July it is just another treeing contest. April is the best time in the central part of the United States, no question about that. Don't mind me though , I probably won't be attending anyway (work), just wanted to stir the pot.

They have Senior Casts. Youth Casts, Ladies Casts, Fellowship Casts. Why not have a "best dogs cast"? I mean, why can't their wins or scores in the early round count toward overall? A win should be harder to get in this classification. I don't think that you would have to have a $250 entry fee and I don't think that it should be a "money hunt". Even though winning $500 would sure be nice. And Kelly, you don't think that "the powers that be" have a dog good enough to hunt in this classification?

Hershell, they split them all up and won't just group the "top dogs" together and let them hunt against each other. Usually everyone is so worried about getting a cast win towards the Overall Champion, that they try to get in the easiest category or cast possible. Getting a win in the "Best of the Best" on Thursday night should carry more prestige than getting Overall Champion by winning 2-3 casts against "easy competition". It has gotten to the point where there is a whole lot of "strategy" involved in winning Overall Champion. Don't get me wrong, you still have to have a real nice dog but there is a lot of backroom bargaining that goes on. With this idea the Best Dogs would hunt against each other on Thursday night and "draw" a non-hunting guide and judge from a pot. But if they wanted to just try to get an "easy cast" to get a win towards Overall, they could still do that.
How about if each "Team" got to pick their best dog to represent them and then the Independants got to pick the rest of the dogs? That should make it interesting and the independants would not think that they were getting "ganged up on".
think about this
Let's make the Thursday and Friday hunts be the ukc hunts then on the last day. Make that hunt be all red and put the cast together based off the first two nights winners. This would be top dogs and the rest can hunt in any other category they feel they want. That way the Redbone days champion is based off the real cast winners going against each other on the last night. Random draw off all cast winners and the over all comes from highest score from the last nights cast winners cast.

I say take all the Redbones who have Qualified for the world and let them battle,,,,, after all the owner of the qualified hound must have thought his hound could be the best on a given night that why he took time to run for the world title.lol

have Allen schedule a super slam where you want it and have someone enter all 16 dogs the second it opens.
I got a couple I'd pony up $250 on.
Dang
There are some nights when I think everything in my whole kennel isn't worth $25 bucks, much less $250. LOL IF it happens I will be glad to watch the big boys battle it out from the sidelines.
It's a cool idea, but I think we all know how this ends.
When you have a $250 entry fee then you have a hunt for the "rich" Redbones, not the "best" Redbones. Why do y'all keep wanting a $250 entry fee. Are you trying to weed out the poor owners who don't have $250? Do you think that you will have 16 Redbone owners with $250 to gamble away? What is the matter with my original idea, just add another category on Thursday night for "The Best Of The Best"? That won't need any approval from anyone except the association.
I MAYBE WRONG BUT ISNT A NATIONAL CHAMP. AN A AMERICAN CHAMP. THE BEST OF THE BEST I MAY HAVE TO STOP HUNTING THE NAT. AMER. CHAMPIONSHIPS AND TRY TO MAKE THE DOGS I RUN GOOD TO GO FOR .(BEST OF THE BEST) .SO IS ARE NAT.CHAMP AND ARE AMERICAN CHAMP NOT THE BEST , WOW WHAT A SAME. (THEY ARE TO ME.)

I think the format is already there.(Zone Winners) I dont know how many zones exist? The prize money comes from (OUR) breed association. If the prize is good enough. This will encourage entree # at (OUR) zone hunts. We could take a% out of the zone hunt entrees for the prize.I think we would still need more revenue from (OUR) association to draw the dogs to the zone hunts. The coonhound world is/has changed. (OUR) breed association needs to adjust with the times. I could be way off thoughhttp://forums.ukcdogs.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Mr Biggert, do you really think that a registered dog that wins all 3 of his casts at Redbone Days with 125+ is really the Best of The Best? You know as well as anyone what goes into winning Overall Champion at Redbone Days and it sure isn't trying to beat the Best of the Best. It seems to me that you are just trying to "stir the pot". And Mr Marshall, what do you think happened to The Purina Race? It sure isn't what it used to be, is it? And I don't think that it has anything to do with the owners/handlers. Most people are just trying to come up with a format to hunt the best Redbones against the best Redbones. But you are right about the money, I don't understand why they keep throwing that $250 entry fee out there. Maybe it is just their way of "bragging". "My dog is worth a $250 entry fee".
