What do you guys wear under your bump cap to keep warm???

There used to be a liner "back in the day" that everyone had. The entire face was open, it didn't cover your mouth and nose. If I remember right it was the old NiteLite company that sold them. Ear bands don't work right for me and most devices are too thick to get the bump cap over. I thought I might have hit on something...I got this balaclava made by a company called "Gatorskins." It is really warm, the wind don't blow through it but it only has an opening for your eyes. Bottom line, wearing the thing while coon hunting is like getting water boarded...I can't breath. Anyone out there got any suggestions, it is unseasonably cold around here this year. What do the folks up in Minnesota or Michigan wear??? Thanks in advance for any info.

They don't have anything they list as a "facemask" in coldgear...they have a mesh face mask but it is just camo and don't cover your ears. Is what you guys are talking about the "Infrared Hood" ????

keeping ears warm

Some of our customers like caps with ear tabs in them. Some have brought the carhart caps for us to put the low profile brackets on. Myself I don't like to cover my ears while listening to the hounds. Worst think about this kind of cap they arn't adjustable.

I use the old time helmet liner

I have used this one for about 15 yrs. I would think a guy could still get one.

I don't like to cover my ears either, but it beats the heck outta frostbite...the Carharrt cap you are referring to is that a soft style hat???

Posted by marpal on 02-11-2015 02:40 AM:

I use a hard hat liner that you can buy at any lumberyard, usually about 6, or 7 bucks. It's made out of a thin fleece material. Just snaps into your bump cap. Covers your neck and ears, but not your face.

I went to the Honda dealer and got a motorcycle facemask. It covers face, ear and neck. But is open so nothing under the hat. Works great

I wear my hoodie when it's cold. When it's frigid I stay at home.

How well does that work if you wear a helmet?

It's thin so your helmet still fits well same with a soft cap I have worn both with it, and even though it's thin it is still very warm and blocks the wind well

Ok thx. Can you still hear good with it on?

Posted by Emily on 02-12-2015 01:52 AM:

I don't use a bump cap--don't really need one I wear my light around my neck and wear a fur trapper hat. If its way below zero you can put the ear flaps down on the way back from the tree. Just make sure your hunting buddies don't shoot at it!
If its real cold, especially if its windy, I grease up exposed parts of my face. I use unscented cold cream or shea butter but anything greasy will do.
