-- Kinda tough out there. (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928350660)

Kinda tough out there.

Treed 5 on the outside over the last three nights, 2 Tuesday, 3 Wednesday, none last night. Dropped in one of our bigger patches last night and two dogs logged over 3 miles each without ever leaving the timber and never got a bark. Dropped in the river bottom and made 4 dens. Seen a couple inside but nothing on the outside.

We went to white river the other night. Its a place that you normally tree a lot of coons. Its slow this year according to everyone I talked to. We made 15 trees, 11 coons 1 slick persimmon and 2 dens, 1 big tree with leafs all over but I think she missed it. She logged way more than three miles though.

It would be a heck of a night anywhere except for the place we where at.

JiM,
I am also from northern Indiana, Kendallville area, and we have had the same luck. I have treed more dens lately than I ever have. Been tough hunting lately...

Re: Kinda tough out there.

That's an understatement. Better have em broke from staying at holes, brush piles and bluffs around here. It'll be rough until they start rutting.

Posted by prostockpat on 12-07-2013 02:50 AM:

last 3 nights

1 dog.
tue;4 coon,2 dens
wed;5 coon 2 dens,1 slick. huge grape vines.she was treed on the vine, not the tree.
last night; 5 coon, 2 dens,1 viney slick.vines went into multiple trees.i couldn't find it.

tree'n more coon in trees with grapes/vines than around corn/picked fields now.
if it stays cold they should move near water.

I was huntin a picked cornfeild with corn layin everywhere.60 degrees and not a bark.I was wondering if my dog forgot what a coon smelt like.LOL.Dog hunted 3/4 of mile through 2 patches of woods and not a bark.
Prostock you must be the only one with a coondog.....I've never had trouble treein coon in winter till now.

they do here unless its bitter cold.they might not move in your area if snow is something rare.
might move better in a day or so.......they will get thirsty.

We dont get much snow down here in ky. Ill try huntin nere some water when i get back out. Been treeing some coons but nothin like you guys have. Those 8-10 coons a night sounds like a dream hunt.

Here it was 12 below this morning we got about 8 inches snow this week. Wind chill last night -25. It never got above zero today, highest temp was -4. It's -13 right now. Weather man says isn't suppose to warm up till the 20 of Dec. Below zero about every night and mostly single digits day time. NOT GOOD!

Great earlier in the week ...wouldn't know about last night or tonight . Last night blizzard conditions w/ blowing snow . Tonight 1 degree low 5-6 inches of snow , calling for more tomorrow night . Skipped the Battle of the Breeds & local $50 other kc hunt cancelled.
Got a good fire going extra quilt on the bed .A night or 2 off not gonna hurt anything around here , don't take many .

Matt I have let the hide hunters have our play ground the first couple weeks , went out Sunday right around Goshen killed 5 Monday, killed 3 Tuesday went to stonelick 3 more plus 2 others over by Newtonsville , Wednesday had a great hunt got 8 , you must not be hunting around here and the hide hunters are slipping too , and made a handful of dens , I figured all my local hunts were cleaned out and the easy ones was gone , they are now

Darrel, me and my kinfolk have spent most of the last 2 months filling our deer tags.So yes we have been slacking.Maybe my dog is rusty. She hadn't been hunted in 3 months due to pups until last week.Plus I think she's trying too hard to get away from my trashy pup. Will see I'm gonna keep at it.
