Medely's Lock Box

What are the pros and cons on Lock Box pups?

Posted by cripple creek on 07-02-2012 05:26 AM:

they are all young right now. He is only

4.
I have talked to at least a half dozen men with box young dogs, plus talked with Whimp Aron who owns repete Box's full brother. He is 3.
they throw the same kind of pups.
smart
early starters
loud
gritty
track drivers who run to catch
great track dogs
solid tree dogs

all sounds pretty good to me. I bred to him and got a 9 week old who knows her name and will come when called from anywere on the place. Goes to the woods without me any time she is turned loose. Rides on a 4 wheeler like a grown dog.
Pretty as a picture, too early to tell about the mouth, but she is gritty and will shake a leather glove like a coon.

I would recommend him highly. I cant find a weakness that would turn me from breeding again. I am going to try and ad repete in the mix down the road.might do a neice/uncle cross sometime int he future or a cousin cross.

I could have bred to any stud in the country, but I chose him for all the reasons above. Every man that had a pup was just tickled pink with them and all said they would breed again. add me to that list.

Good looking hound as well and I have heard he is very very loud for a small dog. bout 45 lbs. He is smarter than a cur dog.

yea...he is little....as a matter of fact

that is why I bred to him. He has a few brothers and they are throwing the same type dog and I like a small dog. He is really petite and agile. He could jump up in the bed of a full size truck quicker than you can snap your fingers. He minds like a house dog.
When I went to breed to him at the pkc winter classic in Miss. he was at a hotel on a very busy road. He opened the dog box and said "cmon box" and he came out and jumped out on to the ground and I asked keith if he was going to leash him and he said he doesnt need one. I looked around and there were cars flying up that road 60 mph one right after the other. He said cmon box again and he followed him like a house dog out into a park and we did business. We he was through, he told him to go get in the box and he went and jumped up in the truck and he locked the latch.
Very impressive. If you are a good houndsman, you can look at him in the eyes and see intelligence.
That is the first trade mark I shoot for in a stud. My females are always smart and when you breed to that you get that.

I think he is a very worth stud. As good as is there is out there I think. I believe Repete is probably just as good. Just depends on which one you are closer to. Repete is located about 70 miles south of Memphis Tn and I think his stud fee is a little cheaper.
Both are good deals.

Cripple Creek, now thats what I'm talking about. I saw the exact same thing in Black Creek Doc. Brains.

Posted by Jackson87 on 06-28-2013 09:48 PM:

Guys that are huntin Lock Box pups lets hear it. They should be gettin close to there age to shine.

Posted by cripple creek on 06-29-2013 01:01 AM:

well the proof is in the pudding with me

I bred to him last year as you can see on that post.

Mine are now a tad over 14 months old and all that were hunted have been running and treeing their own coon since 5 and 6 months old. There were some being singled out at 6 months old.
two that were competion hunted before they were 11 months old had wins. One had a third place and then was leading his next cast which would have gotten him another win or possibly a first place and he got out of pocket and was 10 min. late getting back to the cast.

several owners have been offered from $1500 to $3,000 for theirs. Id say they are doing pretty good.

I have her booked back to be bred next spring around jan to Box again.

There is one pup that isnt being hunted right now that looks exactly like box that can be bought reasonably. He is down south alabama close to mobile and his owner don jackson can send you a pic. pm me and Ill give you Dons number if you are serious and interested. He wants 600 for him.

Every single pup is loud as a freight train.
Go to my post under the walker board that says "showing off my Boots/lock box pup" and check out the videos.
I dont know how you can put a louder mouth on baby pups.

By the time they hit about 2 there is no telling what kind of mouths they will have and what kind of hunts they will be winning.
all of these pups can run a track to catch and some have caught a few on the ground already. They all tree and I mean lock down tree dogs.

I have a half sister to him out of homer she is small to gets deep gets treed and is very accurate, she has brains to boot, i hardly ever leash her when im pleasure hunting. minds better than most kids. I'm seriously considering breeding her to him next year. Should be lots of brains in those pups.

Posted by cripple creek on 07-15-2013 08:49 PM:

carl go back on that post of mine.

there are several pics of keiths ad from the American cooner on my post. Its way down about page 15 or better not sure exactly where. He is a good looking dog. Red headed saddle backed and his white is white without any ticks. Kinda small narrow head tho. weighs about 47 lbs. small.
nice, nice looking dog. of course he is getting up around 6 or better now so I am sure he was sharper when he was younger. He had been bred a lot when I saw him last and he looked rough. haha
keith is breeding the mess out of him now.

Hey Carl check out Lumberjack. His stud post is called(8 shots of lipper).Im huntin a female outta him that is small and weighs 50 pounds.Handles good and will flat throw dirt in ur face.Back to Lockbox I'd like to see what style of pups he is throwing.Hes like 3 hours from here.

Posted by cripple creek on 07-25-2013 11:31 PM:

check out the video of my lock box

female at seven months old on the post under small dogs.....
that will give you an idea what he throws. that entire litter by my boots dog are unbelievable. They were being hunted by themselves at seven months old.
mine saw two caged coons and went to being hunted in the wild by herself. treeing her own coon. some of them have won two or three hunts before they were a year old.

LOCK BOX

MATT YOU ARE MAKING A GOOD DECISION KEITH PACKS A COON DOG THAT SHOULD BE A GOOD CROSS ON YOUR FEMALE GOOD LUCK I CAN TELL YOU THIS MUCH BOX IS A COON TREEING MACHINE OR KEITH WOULD NOT OWN HIM ONCE AGAIN GOOD LUCK AND HAVE A SAFE TRIP

Posted by cripple creek on 07-26-2013 04:56 AM:

thanks 87...yea...she is so loud

you cant talk to your hunting partner while she is treeing!!
you have to communicate by hand signals....haha

It doesn't hurt that my Boots female is one of the best reproducing females in the country either.
Keith told me straight to my face his next stud he wants to promote will be off my Boots female if that is possible.
Boots being a grand daughter to Bark really helped on that cross.

I hear you carl....

yea there is a long list of folks wanting pups from that cross, but I breed for myself first. selling pups is just an after thought for me. If folks like what I am hunting and showing then they can get in on it.
I make different crosses to add different aspects to my line. I want them to always be balanced when I make a cross for sure, but Mouth is a desired trait, but sometimes I add confirmation in a cross if I feel like I am not getting the feet and legs to compete nationally on the show stage and still maintain the coondog aspect.

My females throw coondogs with loud mouths no matter what I breed to. I have always believed and it has held true in my breeding over the years is that the female throws better than 60% of the pups traits sometimes even more. If you find a dog that will throw 50% of himself on his pups even if he breeds a less than quality female, he is a dominate stud in my eyes.
I believe Box to be a dominate stud. You can see it in the mouths, tracking ability and for sure the looks. Box throws a narrow type head on a hound and I personally prefer a boxier head on my dogs.

That Ruth gyp in the video will reproduce world beaters whenever we decide to breed her down the road. she has about a year before I even think about breeding her. My females are dominate reproducers because I am cautious to what I breed to and I keep all my desired traits piled up generation after generation.

That's why you can see dogs like the Lil miss Milo dog that won walker days a couple of years ago and her daughters this year winning the walker days pup hunt with a big score and just being a yearling pup and the Milo dog himself who just passed away today and was a multiple finalist in the UKC world hunt and on and on are dogs that their ancestors came from my kennels.
Its all in the breeding and making the right cross at the right time.

Bottom line it all starts with the female for me and it has been good to me for sure.

Box is a nice reproducer and I wont be afraid to go back to him down the road.
