Valley Creek will be hard to beat for both light and boots.....price and quality.

Muck and K-Light is what I use but to be honest there are several good brands of each that would be hard to go wrong with.

I would advise you to go with an LED head on whatever light you choose. Burntime is just so much greater, therefore you have lighter battery packs to lug around the woods.

I like competition light brand lights. I dont like the led lights. they are alright and are compact but thats the only things i like about them. the belt lights are small enough.

as far as boots, I havent had a good pair of boots in awhile.. they all leak right out of the box. I have tryed a few brands. I will get yoder or dan chaps the next pair i buy and hopefully i have better luck.

goodluck if you get to hunting again. once its in your blood, its stays there!!!! goodluck and have fun!!!

Find someone local that builds lights and buy one from them. That way when ur light messes up u can return it to them for warranty instead of being down two weeks ur only down two days or less and minus the shipping bill. I wish I would have. I bought a valley creek and I am having issues with it and they want me to return it but that will take me 2 or 3 weeks and I can't take that long of a break. Save urself the inconvenience, they are all made basically the same, just have to chose between led or not.

I suggest LaCrosse Boots, either the Grange or Burly Style. Their nothing fancy but they are comfortable, inexpensive ($70-$90), and durable! As for lights there are alot of good lights out there. We have a Cajun, a Valley Creek, a Nite Lite, and a Tim's Mini LED Light they are all pretty good lights, just make sure you get a good durable Head.

You can buy both of the items you need at Conkeys Hunting Supply, I would get the Muck boots with Dans chaps, very good boot and Conkeys will have your chaps sized right for you, and you can buy you the BEST light being made----The Boss, with an LED or 5100 head, your choice.........AND, you get the BEST customer service you will need.............give Conkeys a try and be a satisfied customer as I am ( along with 100's more)..............................Tim

The Brightest light is the Boss Turbo it is brighter then all the ones being sold period. The Boss cap light is nice but the Turbo is the brightest.

The one I have has a click switch the best one I have seen yet it has 5 clicks. 1st click super dim for shining the small to med. trees. Click 2 dim for shining med. to XL trees. Click 3 for walking. Click 4 for people who are looking for snakes. Click 5 you have just made everybody around you check to see if there light is on and made somebodies balled up coon to become a knot on a limb. If you wanted a rheostat switch I think they can get you one.

The new Boss Turbo brightest light being sold. For more INFO http://www.conkeysoutdoors.com/cgi/...tem_num=B-Turbo
the light is built as tough as it looks.the material is a 1000 denier water resistant material. (no more worn or torn belt packs)also has a 16 cell industral AF pack(not the standard A cell battery pack).also has a 5 led head that is second to none in brightness with thermal control built into the head.
milesvinson you should try the Boss Turbo you can get a full refund if you don't like it. From Conkey's Outdoors website " Two Year Warranty. If you receive your light and are not happy with it for any reason just let us know. You will get a full refund upon return of the light."

Bruce has got Chaps call him.

It is hard to think that the Brightest LED head (the Boss Turbo) is one of the cheapest at $169

Beings your from West Virginia i been there and never saw a swamp. If your wanting a boot without chaps, this spring i purchased a pair of lacrosse 18 inch waterproff snake boots with a zipper in the side for easy on and off.$147.00 shipped to my door.I was worried at first about how they would hold up because they are so light but so far so good.Absolutely waterproff and very comfortable.

Prolites

Prolites is a must!! Very light and keeps your feet from sweating. It has a vent to evaporate all the moisture.. For $100 best boot out there!!

He was talking about the head itself- 169.99

o

I didnt even realize the head was that cheap I wish I had a good battery pack could have saved money LOL

Posted by Tyler Vaden on 08-28-2011 04:28 AM:

Yeah I was talking about just the head. They will put the LED click switch in your light for free when you buy a Boss head.

+1 on the lacrosse boots in wet conditions, I like the USA made Danner's, have worn them for over thirty five years, have only went through 3 pair, they can be resoled.
Lots of good lights on the market, most of the better belt lights with the 5100 heads are pretty close to being the same.
I've got a moonshiner, it is a good light. Will upgrade to a LED head sometime this season. If your wanting to save money go to Lowes, at the checkouts they sell a Coast led head lamp with a dimmer and focus adjustment, it is as bright as most 21 volt 5100 head lights, cost 49.97, get you some rechargeable batteries and you'd be in business. They would be fantastic for guest or youth hunters or as a backup light.

what is the burn time on the boss light? looked on his site and only found where it said the head would add 10+ hrs on high and over a week on low to your current light
