need help geting to hot

what can i do about my dog geting to hot at the tree does real good for about 15 min thin gets hot what can i do

Keep hunting him. Night after night. Make sure you give him a drink after each drop. He will get better with time.

my dog did the exact thing you describe as soon as i stop feeding black gold he was fine. i now feed kenny os feed and it is as good as any ive tried.

i feed black gold and have had no problems. just cut down the serving size. dont be feeding a whole coffee jar every time.

I have been Feeding Kenny Os and about the same thing ..

Same Weight all year round they remain Cut and Active..

i have been feeding him pro plan 26 16 no corn in the feed on a cool night he will tree all night long 120 to 130 a min get hot only about 80 to 90 and stops and start the hole time.

Long story short. We have a dog that we have done a fair amount of winning with. He got hot in the summer, was lethargic, and had a history of skin problems. We switched from the high carb, plant base protein feeds we had been feeding( Diamond green bag, and Black Gold), to Extreme Athlete, and a feed very similar (Native Level 4). The results were unreal. He ran cooler, but more importantly RECOVERED QUICKER. We have never had any more skin problems either. We feed it year around, just a little less in the summer or if he is not getting worked. Right now he is not getting hunted much and we are giving him about 2 3/4 cups, and he is a shade too heavy. It is better to have them a shade thin than fat if you want the best performance.

feed a low fat low protein dog food keep your dog alittle thin in summer you'l see a big difference. some dogs are just hot natured.

yep

21% protein is more than enough for summer time. but i don't have no fancy scientific articles to post. im just going by years of experience, and learning from old coonhunters with more years of experience.

I would recomend that you dont hunt your hound too hard in Warm Weather.
If your Sweating and hot when you get to the tree, you can bet your hound is alot hotter, Push a hound too hard, in the heat, and it can have a stroke, just like you or me.

hot and humid as it gets down here dont matter what you feed one the heat will work on them. will work on the one following the dog too. we hunt around water when it hot here helps them some but still have had dogs cramp up. 90 + degree heat and humid will make a dog take a break on treeing. usually one drop and if its a long race its time to head in. we usually go later when it gets real hot around midnight or later.

You could probably just cut his feed in half and be fine! I feed 26/18 all year long..In the summer they get cut way back..

This is such a funny topic. I feed the same thing, 26/18 all year long. Too Hot due to food seems to be a new thing these days. Here's a tidbit of news, your dogs aint too hot..they're out of shape!

I have to agree..A dog in shape rarely gets to hot at night...I try and run mine on the 4 wheeler a few times a week plus hunt them...Makes em alot more HEAT TOLERATE LOL........

i hunt every nite, mine are in shape. every little thing that can help a dog stay cool in extreme heat during a nite hunt, can most definitely be the difference in winning or losing.

y'all just keep them dogs good n fat and looking good. im gonna stick with my 21%.

best to have him checked for ADDISON disease. My vet said he practiced for twenty years and only had one case now gets probaly one everyother month .
