Plus Point English

Many of the "old timers" remember when I campaigned and promoted the English breed in the late eighties, through the early nineties and at the beginning of the new millennium. My featured hound at that time, UKC GR NITE CH PKC CH Plus Point Blue Boy Bruiser, was a nice hound and a pleasure to hunt. I met a lot of great friends through that old dog and had many enjoyable hunts with those friends during that time.

When Bruiser was approaching his senior years, I knew I was going to step away from coonhunting to concentrate on raising a family. I didn't want to drag my kids to the woods when they were young only to burn them out of hunting at an early age, so I traded coonhunting for baseball tournaments and Friday night football events. I wanted my kids to let me know when they were ready to give coonhunting a try. Fortunately, in 2012, my kids started asking questions about coonhunting. It wasn't long I had a dog and started taking them to the woods. They took to coonhunting like a duck to water. My oldest, Allen, is more into the pleasure hunting side of the sport while my middle son, Tyler, loves the competition hunts. My youngest, Cody, who is nine hasn't figured out his niche yet but enjoys going to the woods with his brothers and me. He also enjoys knocking out those coons with a shot from his trusty rifle.

It has been a wonderful experience coming back to this great sport. The future of our kennel is in good hands with the current hounds I have along with the young hounds I am working for the future.

I couldn't be happier with what I have kenneled here. I am currently offering UKC Dual Grand Champion PKC Champion All Grand Yogi at stud. He is throwing very nice, balanced pups with a head full of sense. His pups have loud mouths and are dual purpose hounds that excel not only in the woods, but on the bench as well. You will never be ashamed of entering the hunting club to get your picture taken after a big win with a Yogi pup on the end of your leash.

I have two litters planned for 2016 out of Yogi. I plan on breeding UKC Dual Grand Champion Smooth Sippin' Moonshine to Yogi. She is an older female directly out of GR NITE CH Smooth Talking Jodies Jed and GR NITE CH Hunter's Little Ann. Should be an excellent cross with big mouths and plenty of nose.

The second cross will be with CH GR NITE CH Tree Rockn Nelly. I have had a lot of hunters ask me when I was going to breed Nelly to Yogi and this Spring is when it's going to happen. Many will remember that I bred her to UKC Dual Grand Champion PKC Platinum Champion Main Street Max, then bred her to UKC Dual Grand Champion '98 English Hall of Fame Wilcox Thunder Bingo (semen) for her second cross. I did so to enhance my own kennel with young talent I can cross back into my existing bloodline at a later date. I am very happy with the pups I kept out of both crosses and feel strongly that Nelly will be on UKC's reproducer's list once these puppies start entering the hunts. Here is a pic of Nelly:

A lot of great things are happening at Plus Point English. I feel very good about my breeding program right now and the direction it's heading. Hopefully our presence is known at the hunts in the coming years and that the English breed, as a whole, continues to breed for better English hounds that can win in the hunts.

NITE CH GR CH Plus Point Gunners Rocky Road

The hound I am currently hunting in the hunts is NITE CH GR CH Plus Point Gunners Rocky Road. His kennel name is "Rocky" and he has turned into a good young hound. He has a Spring Super Stakes remaining with PKC. The plan is to finish him to UKC Dual Grand Champion this Spring and hunt him in the Super Stakes. I have one test litter planned for him later this Spring as I plan to breed him to NITE CH GR CH Main Street Sis HTX. With his bloodline, I feel strongly he will produce very good puppies. Rocky is a son of 2011 UKC World CH GR NITE CH Wilcox Thunder Top Gun HTX and CH GR NITE CH Rocky's Cool Pop. He is a grandson of '88 Purina Coonhound of the Year GR NITE CH Smith's Hardtime Rocky and CH GR NITE CH Lickety-Split Leah.

Crossbred pups

Dale Holt in Porum, Oklahoma has a couple of pups out of my Plus Point Odin the Red and his Canadian River DC (Double Clone). This is an English/ Walker crossbred litter loaded with old Bruiser, Main Street Roy and Turman Creek English blood matched with the very best of Wipeout/ Georgia Cyclone Walker blood. Really good blood on an English x Walker cross

This should be an amazing cross, but first, let me tell you how it came about.

I have a young English redtick male and sent him to a training pen to get him started. While there, he bred a Walker female resulting in four pups. These pups will not be sold until the DNA has come back from the registries verifying my English male as the sire of the pups. The mother is owned by Dale Holt and is a very nice looking young female with incredible breeding. It will be interesting to see how the Georgia Cyclone/Wipeout blood crosses with the Main Street Roy line on this cross. Dale's gyp had two males and two females. They will be UKC and PKC registered and PKC Super Stakes eligible. Here is the bloodline on the pups:

I do not have the UKC papers for DC (which is the abbreviation for "Double Clone") so I cannot give the UKC titles in the above pedigree, but I do know that some were hunted and titled in UKC in addition to the tremendous success they've had in PKC events. Dale just sent the DNA to PKC for these pups. They will be available for pickup after the results come back to insure the parentage.

I have seen the pups myself. Both females are redtick while one of the males is going to be more of a tri-colored pup. The last male took after the female's side as he is going to look like a Walker dog with little or no ticking on him. Dale wants them to go to competition hunters and is spending the extra money in registration fees/DNA testing so they will be eligible to hunt in all the big puppy/truck hunts. Although not a planned mating, any serious competition hunter has to love how the two bloodlines match up with this cross. They should make good hounds as both the sire and dam were naturals and will be put in the hunts this coming Spring and Summer.

Please call Dale Holt for more information or to get your name on the list for one of the males that are available. I do not own the litter, but told Dale I would help him find good homes for the pups. Dale's number is (918) 223-5373.

Plus Points Bad Rumor

My 6 1/2 month old direct son of Wilcox Thunder Bingo I named Plus Points Bad Rumor passed away yesterday due to a liver infection.

He developed a nasty infection last week and my vet said he hasn't seen this type of infection. I had his liver sent for a biopsy to figure out what we are dealing with. His sister, Little Ms. Bingo, owned by Larry Wilcox in Michigan passed away from the same kind of symptoms on Monday. I also had a female out of this cross I named Lady Luck that passed away about a month ago as well. I have spoken with the owners of the remaining three females from this litter and they have reported that their pups seem to be doing fine.

His passing is a big blow to our kennel, so it's time to regroup and get through this setback.

Im just sick at my stomach ..... Really dont even know what to say I'm just Praying you get through this . I cant imagine what you're feeling right now. You worked so hard in making this great cross possible. And my condolences to Larry for his loss of ms. bingo also. Every evening I get home from work the FIRST THING I do is check on Star.
The fact that you are sending off that liver for a biopsy tells the quality of breeder & houndsman you are & the passion you have.

I got the biopsy back on Rumor from the vet. He died from histoplasmosis. It is a fungus that attacks the liver. In fact, Rumor had more fungal cells in his liver than he had liver cells at time of death. I am sure his sister died from the same thing even though the first vet said it was a twisted gut. The two had way too many similarities in their symptoms to not ignore that. The reports I have had on the remaining three females is that they are healthy and doing well, so I am hopeful that they will be okay and live a normal life.

Not sure about that Del. It's the first death I've had here with something like this in 30 years. I feel his sister died from the same thing and Larry's Ms. Bingo female out of the same cross passed away the same week as Rumor with eerily similar symptoms.

It always happens to the good ones. If it was an accidental breeding, you could never worm them and they'd all make it to fifteen years old.

Bruiser pups :)

My CH NITE CH Daugherty's Big Country Jojo female (Bruiser granddaughter) is going to have a litter of Bruiser pups. She is already getting big, so she is going to have a big litter around the fifteenth of this month. I've owned Jojo for two years and my sixteen year old son finished her out to both a Nite Champion and a Show Champion in UKC.

She has a big bawl mouth on the ground and a steady chop on tree. Very good about having the coon and looks the best when the leaves are off and the frost is on the ground. By doubling up the old Bruiser blood, I feel that I will see very good things out of this cross.

He said it looks like she had seven males and three females. All pups are red and white. This will be a "crossbred litter" as Tramp is a Walker gyp out of GR NITE CH Wipeout Zeus and GR NITE CH AKC World Champion Valley Creek Tramp. That will be two world champs as their grandparents. Yes. I plan to keep one pup for myself and will sell the rest. I have a few booked, but should have some available based on how big she is now with two weeks left before they are born. She is a great mother, so I have no doubt that if she has a big litter, she will raise them all.

She is liking her new diet of puppy chow mixed with beef liver, cottage cheese and goat milk. If you want a female to come in with plenty of milk, this recipe will do it.

Rocky's first litter!

This is actually a crossbred litter. The mother is a direct daughter of UKC Grand Nite Champion PKC Platinum Champion AKC World Champion Valley Creek Tramp and Grand Nite Champion Wipeout Zeus.

The mother of these pups is a blanketback Walker female. It's safe to say that Rocky is dominant in throwing the coloring on his litters because all of these pups have the English look.
