Anyone know any good homemade remedies for poison oak or poison ivy?? Seems like every tree ive seen the past week or two has a patch off it around every tree.

Get an economy size bottle of hand sanitizer. Make sure it has alcohol in it. After every tree or when you get to the truck, rub your hands and arms down in it. It kills the bacteria that causes the rash. I get poison pretty bad and so far this has helped for the past several years. Got it one time last year.

u got it real bad for a long time .few years ago i had it so bad on my face i couldn't open my eyes.. well last year i heard a old tale saying if you eat a leaf off of one it will help your immunity. i had someone who wasn't allergic to it to grab me one and wad it in a little ball and toss it in my mouth. it tasted like crap but i have touched it a number of times this year and not one rash. maybe there is some truth to this.

edit:"Death may result from someone eating a leaf of posion ivy"
this is what one website i read says so be careful..the only ill effects i had was the first few months after takeing it i had a stud stud studering problem..lol

I've always thought handling a dog thats been in it was where I've gotten it at times.

poison ivy

Poison Ivy is contacted from the oil from the plant which is called URUSHIOL so the the sooner you get it washed off hopefully the symptoms won't be so bad or at all.Alcohol or strong soaps will help,so be careful around the dogs,if worse comes to worse cortisone helps.

What would you Use on the belly of a Hound ???

I have found out that the Pure French Hound I have is not Imune to Poison Ivy Like the American hounds !!! But the break out is alittle different from what Humans get .. It just becomes a Red circle and a Bump in the center but never Blisters and spread, it takes about a week and a half for them to go away..

I know this sounds crazy, but my grandpa told my dad when i was a little younger to eat poison ivy and he wouldnt be allergic to it anymore just kidding around while we were burning some brush. Well,he actually ate it,and hasnt had it since. Thats been about 10 years ago. I thought it would swell his throat shut.

If you get a round of prednazone ( steroids ) from your doctor, you will be poison free for almost 2 years. It works for me.

my dr. said if he gave me any more prednazone my liver would fail. but i was comming in about once a month.being a logger/tree trimmer just didnt work out for me....
i told him i never got any bigger muscles either(i guess it must be a different steroid).

I take a allergy shot for pollens and this same shot can eliminate poison oak or poison ivy when you have it or just keeps you from getting it. Kennerlog is what its called. I also carry a bottle of Tecnu for my friends that might get any form of rash.

Poisen Ivy

Goldenseal. Its an herb. My wife works outside and is extremely fair. Poisen ivy, oak and Virginia creeper aggravate her skin. But goldenseal works as an immune system builder and stops the aggrevation and itch. WalMart sells Goldenseal & echinechia, however Botanic Choice sells goldenseal root, which is the best.

Poison Ivy

About a year ago someone made a simalar post like this. One fellow said his Dr. told him that folks that broke out were short on vitaman B 100. Said they got some off the shelf at the store, took it and never was bothered by it again? Good luck.

Oral Ivy works good. its not a home remedy but it is homeopathic. its a liquid you take by mouth. it actually helps remove it as well as prevent it. it works well for either use. and if you're anything like me if you can prevent it you're a whole lot better off than just waiting to get it then doing something about it. i've been put on medicine countless times from the doctor to get rid of poison ivy. i can't seem to stay out of it but Oral Ivy does the trick. just google it you can find it pretty cheap.

My fiance' has had several severe cases of poison ivy, and the last time around I read on a website that it would be beneficial to wash with Dawn dish detergent. Supposedly it helps cut the oils from the plant off your skin. He also washed with Clorox, and we made sure to keep bed linens, jackets, etc washed. It seemed to clear up faster than past cases.

Obviously (HOPEFULLY!) I'm not allergic to it, because I find it hard to believe that I haven't been in contact with it in the woods at some point in my life. I think I'll keep my fingers crossed that's the case, because it sure looks painful! Hope it gets cleared up for you soon.

I use Burton's Bees Poison Ivy Soap. Anytime I know I was into poison Ivy or I start to break out with it I scrub down in the shower with it. I usually break out like a Raspberry but since using that soap I have no problem. I would never have believed it until a guy at work brought a bar of the soap in for me to try. I am sold on it.

American hounds/dogs are not immune to it -- some can break out. Me and a couple of the hounds can attest to that, LOL.
