looking for Opinions Hip Dysplasia
Just wondering what everyone thinks about Breeding a Hound that Has Hip Dysplasia? It is very rare to see this in Hounds if you Had a good Hound would you breed it knowing it had Hip Dysplasia ? taking a chance on passing it on to your pups and and there Pups hurting the Breed ? Its been seen alot in Labs German shepards ond alot of others Breeds it is sad to see in young dogs. would you Breed or Not. what would be the Moral and right thing to Do. Looking for Opinions ?
Not sure about hounds but I know in Labs and Setters it's a genetic trait, so it would be passed down to the offspring and introduce a genetic variable to the bloodline.
I have pondered this question myself, my opinion though, is that if you know the hound has hip diplaysia you should not breed the dog, no matter how good of a dog it is. Genetically they will pass the trait onto their offspring. JMO.

Breeding in a defect like Hip Dysplasia is just plain stupid…..IMO
With all the of the negative results showing up with the Labs due to these pupy mills breeding inferior dogs and passing this defect through out different dogs there is no way that anyone should ever breed a hound with this issue. If anyone were to know of this being done, it there best interest as a true hounds man or women to report it to UKC and hopefully they will deal with it in the proper way.
It would have a spider web effect to all future breeding of the pups.

Hounds
About 20 years ago I used to hunt with a Guy that had a awesome Bluetick Male he had Bad hips the guy probly had 4000 Dollars in this dogs Hips he had the dog operated on a couple times the dog lived to an old age and like I said was a awesome coon hound we were hunting one nite and he said Im breeding my old male to my Female I said man he is a good Hound But I think your nuts to take a chance of producing the same thing. the more he thought about He changed his Mind and did not breed the dog . that was a good choice in my OPINION He was thinking of the Breed ! we Have sent hounds on for Bad traits that are not half as bad as Hip Dysplatia . You can breed YOUR hounds How ever you want and to what ever you want after all they are yours . I personaly like to breed to Hounds That are good and sound and if I sell a pup I want that pup to be as healthy as it can Be and if it has issues in the Future I want to Know about it . I would be a little Upset if someone sold me a pup Knowingly that the sire or the Dam Had Hip Dysplatia in any Manner Bad or not so Bad This is My Opinion thats it. Good hunting to all John
breeding
If you are reading this article, you are probably considering breeding your dog in the near or distant future. First of all, I wish to commend you for researching this sometimes controversial topic. Secondly, if you decide to breed your dog, please commit to providing the very best care for your dog and the puppies. As a breeder you will need to recognize this commitment extends to placing the puppies in trustworthy and loving homes.
This article is not intended to discourage an individual who is wholeheartedly determined to breed a better specimen of their particular breed. It is however, meant to discourage the individual who may look at their dogs as easy money making opportunity. Consider the time, money and effort involved in producing a litter and make sure you are physically, emotionally and financially ready to begin a breeding program.
Please make sure you are starting out with the healthiest male and female possible, spend time researching your breed, are there certain lines that live longer and have fewer health issues than other lines? Familiarize yourself with you breed’s written standard, make sure you understand what the terms mean that are used in your breed’s written standard.
As you breed and develop your bloodline, please make sure you place pups that should not be bred in homes that will spay or neuter. Always be responsible for the puppies you are creating. Commit to making yourself available to the families you place your puppies with, following these guidelines will help you become a responsible breeder.

I can atest to NHBludogs love of his hounds and who he sells them to. I bought 2 off of him 4 yrs ago and he still calls from time to time checking on them. That is a man that cares about his dogs and bloodlines. I think if we all bred our dogs with care and followed them along after selling pups, we would have better hounds in the end. I know I would be pissed if I looked back in my pedigree and seen a dog with issues and it started showing up in my dogs.
JMO take it however you like.
