Matthews Bows

So how sweet are Matthews bows?
anyone got one?
i just got my new Switchback XT last week it is awesome
it shoots so smooth and it is very consistant and accurate

All my buddys shoot them. They all love them. I would of bout one but i am 6'5 and weigh 295lb so i needed a longer bow, so i went with the hoyt trykon XL and i love it!!!!!!

I've had two Mathews bows,the SQ2 and the LX models,really liked them,very durable,thinking about buying a new one after hunting season.

I was one of the first to own a outback in Pa.I absolutely love it.It's so quit you can shoot a deer and the other's have no Idea what's going on.They are super accurate,smooth,and quit.

i shot a mathews switchback xt i liked the way it shot for the most part. what i didn't like was it weighed alot(but it was decked out) i still don't like to draw when coming back, and the shop owner (who bow i shot) said it chrono at 258 feet per sec. not as fast as people say they are. i recently shot a parker hornet 2 plus know that is one light bow, and it's is lightning fast, i chrono that bow at 319 feet per second, 1 thing stopped me from buying that bow, at full draw the back wall was spongy and the let off point was small, if you relaxed at all it felt like it was going to let down. after coming home and shooting my bow i decieded to keep it another year and see what they come up with next year. i do however want to go and shoot the ELITE ARCHERY E- FORCE i like what i read about this bow and going to shoot it in the next week or so, has anyone shot this bow.

for the record my old bow is a PSE STINGRAY PRO SERIES, my average kill is at 17 yards and my farthest kill is 37 yards, i am sighted in for 50 yards and can easy kill a deer from that distance, but will probally never shoot that far. as far as accuracy goes i'm sure some bows are more forgiving than others but practice makes good accuracy.

They are the best!

I own five Mathews bows and although I own a couple of "off brands" for bow fishing I can tell you that over the years I have owned every major brand of bow and will never own anthing other than a Mathews to hunt or shoot competition with. I shoot spots, 3d, whatever I can.

Dont get caught up in the arrow spead thing. The Bowtecs etc. may go faster buy a bit but they are increadibly loud. Why do you think they have all of those armed contraptions on them?

Now is the time of year i get all conflicted cause I love to bowhunt for velvet bucks and season is coming up in three weeks but I want to run my pups and I am too old to lay out all night and get up with a couple of hours of sleep and hunt deer.

Let me tell you, I have shot for over 30 years and the he Xt is the best shooter of anything I have touched.

I know a lot of people that have the Matthews though & they really like them.Lil to pricy for me.

I may be different but all that high tech stuff completely takes the fun out of archery for me. Overdraws, releases, fall away rests, red dot sites, power peeps, spinning vanes, the list goes on and on. You need a dang tool box just to go shoot a 3-D course or league night. The most fun I ever had was hunting and shooting leagues with recurves for about 15 years. Very effective for killing deer at typical 20 yds and under range. I looked down at that compound one day with all the stuff on it and it just wasn't as much fun as it used to be. Simpler is better. For me.

But to each his own. Except crossbows. I can't stand them things. lol

I am feeling the same way anymore.Like you ,I shot leagues with my recurves & everything else that wiggled & squirmed including pheasants on the fly.That is one thing I will agree on that Uncle Ted preaches & that is the "mistical flight of the arrow" & when its instintive thats really what its about! Used to go for walks & shoot bugs,leaves or whatever.With these hi zoot models now a days it would cost you 10 dollars a shot.The old Fred Bear brodheads & wooden arrows killed a lot of deer for me!!

Q2 and Switchback

Had a Q2 for 3 yrs went to the bow shop last year and the guy talked me into just shooting the Switchback. Tried it, bought it, and like it... Hands down its the best.. I have friends with the bowtechs, parkers, and Hoyts they shot mine and started trading. There smooth, quiet, and very dependable. And i got good money for trade in on my Q2. Jonah

Any Archery is Good Archery!

I have quite a few bows (16) that I have made that I shoot. Some are copies of Plains Indian bows and are sinew reinforced and some are Eastern Woodlands type and I also have an English longbow in there.

I shoot everything! However, I am a bit older now and am trying to save my shoulder and those 80 pound Sioux bows just tear me up! I want to be shooting when I am 70 so a compound is nice for wear and tear.

I enjoy all of the gadgets and I also enjoy the old scholl stripped down versions. I absolutely refuse to get caught up in the primitive verses modern debate. Too me ethere is simply nothing to debate it is all archery and is all good.

Highyellerdog - What's your opinion on crossbows?

I dont own a crossbow

They have been a big issue here in Kentucky with a lot of debate. I have shot them but I just didnt see what the advantage was. Most do not go over 300 fps so there is no great speed advantage and they are horribly heavy and loud to boot. Very expensive, I would play with one (not hunt) if it were given to me but I personally could buy a very good red dog for that much money.

Some people may not be able to draw a bow and if that is the case I have no problem with disabled folks using them.

In the Outer Bluegrass of Kentucky where I live we have so many deer it is not even funny. Every year I do my part and shoot does but the weather has not cooperated for the last couple of years and the warm spells during the rut=noctural movement and low kill numbers.
I think that folks can use them during all of deer season now which starts Sept 3rd!

The only bow I've had is an old Bear Whitetail 2. Shoots good (2 in circle @ 50yrds), not too fast like the Switchback but where I hunt, 30yrds is a long shot. I'd say if you were at the edge of a field, they do good, my uncle loves his. I still can't justify $800 on a bow.

One of my buddies shot a 32 point non-typical buck a couple of yrs back. this thing was NASTY looking. i am after a specific deer this yr. i have only seen him once while i was coonhunting, i have permission on the place where i saw him about a week ago and let me tell you something, he brings a new meaning to the name SIR MOSSY HORNS. he was atleast a 10 point typical somewhat wide but real tall and his rack was kinda cocked back like an ELK. he has a couple of Stickers on him too, and for how nice the rack looked he had the MASS and BODY to match it. i have been shooting about five nights a week with my new SWITCH BACK XT and i love it. there is one thing about MATTHEWS bows that i have noticed. they may not be the fastest bows arround, but they are the Quietest and the Smoothest bow a person could ever shoot. JMO oh and the MATTHEWS SWITCHBACK XT cost $689.00 with nothing on it

Sounds to me that you work for Mathews as much as you are talking up the swithchback. Either that or you are trying to convince yourself that it is good to pay the $780 that my uncle paid for his straight from Mathews

I still have the old Mathews MQ1. I just cant seem to give it up.It still shoots good.

Ive got a Matthews Q-2 and its awsome ive killed 2 does and 3 bucks with it!

I started out with a Bear Whitetail II back in 1988.Got it on mark down from Wallyworld for about $80.Killed several deer with it and have since had 6 other bows since 88.Five compounds and one recurve.A couple of the compounds I had was high dollar ones. What I discovered was it's the guy behind the bow thats doing the shooting,not the bow and gadgets.I couldn't see where there was $600 worth of shooting diffence in that $80 Bear bow and the high dollar compounds i've had and still have.Sometimes I wonder if them high speed bows with all the gadgets on them give a guy a false sense of security and makes a hunter think they can pull off a shot that they really shouldn't be taking. (I'll plead guilty on that one)
Just got the recurve this past feb. Almost sold it after shooting it very little,but ended up keeping it.I'm glad I did! I've had a blast plinking away with it in the yard.It's gonna be a challenge for sure I can tell,but i'm gonna get me a deer with it this fall!
In closing I want to say that back in 88 when I got that bow from Walmart,I didn't have a clue about buying a bow and accesories.I'd strongly suggest buying your equipment from a good pro shop.

If you can afford it who cares how much a bow cost people spend thousand and thousnds of dollars on a dog thats just gonna die....If you cant afford who cares if the person who can buys it..by the way my dad just bought a new switchback a month ago and he loves it he was shooting Darton bows and said he'd never go back and when he bought his matthews they give him a 100 dollars worth of accessories of his choice from the store
