Pleasure Hunter or Competition Hunter
How many people identify as a pleasure Hunter or as a competition Hunter?
Pleasure Hunter - majority of your hunting is pleasure no competition hunting at all
Competition Hunter -majority of your time is spent entered in competition hunts and preparing dogs specifically to be ready for a competition hunt
Both- Pleasure and Competition Hunt equally.
90% PLEASURE HUNTER 10% COMPETITION

More pleasure than Comp pleasure hunters will pay more money for dogs as a whole than comp hunters and they by far have better coon dogs as far as seeing eyes.
well if your hauling a dog around to these money hunts and your not consistently looking at eyes your not winning much.

Jason,
I have never understood individuals who are so quick to accept prejudice as some coon hunters are.
What Dave states is true. If a dog does not consistently show you coon eyes, than that dog isn't going to win much.
Your statement is not only mean spirited, it is also very short sighted.
Pleasure hunters do not corner the market for good coon hounds no more than competition hunters do. Nor does one group have any moral high ground than the other. I know Mr. Brott, and I know for fact he knows what a coon hound is.
You, sir owe many an apology for suggesting that competition hunters are less truthful than pleasure hunters.

Oh my goodness, you don't think that a coonhunter woul be "meanspirited" do you? But at the same time, Jason you don't think that a coonhunter would be less than truthful do you?
My dogs are a lot more accurate when I pleasure hunt by myself than when I comp hunt. And they are way more accurate when I interweb or text hunt.
Many of the hunts I have been out on have been fine. Honest. Many have been a mess. I mean a spider eye plussing mess. Anyone being honest knows exactly what im talking about if you been on many hunts at all. So I challenge the statement that you have to see coon eyes to win hunts. That's not true. You SHOULD have to . That statement is true.

I am sorry that I sounded mean. That's the last thing I want to be. But I do reserve the right to be honest about the things I have saw and have not saw and be real.

I am surprised at the results of this poll. I thought 90% of the people on here were competition hunters.

quote:thanks Tony and Larry I don't claim to have the best but I wont feed a dog very long that don't show me coon most of the time. yes things happen in the hunt + coon that aren't there and so on but if your hauling a good dog you will win a lot more than you loose.

I don't find it surprising at all that 90% of the interweb posters are pleasure hunters. Have you not seen/read the way that they talk about comp hunts?
quote:There was a poll on here about the need for change in the rules and formats for the hunts a couple weeks ago and I knew by the responses there was very few serious Comp hunters voting or replying on the board..

Used to be about 50/50, now it's 98% pleasure hunt 2 % comp. And after last weekend it will probably drop to .5% comp. Ruff dog's cheating handlers.
I know that there are good dog's on both sides but it's not worth get a good dog ate up for a title that means nothing to anybody but me.
I sure wish it was like it was 35 years ago, but it's not and never will be. I got to hunt against some of the best, week in, week out. A lot of fun.

That rock salt sure did sting and leave welts for days. Does anyone remember when vandalism was called mischief? And the only mischief was when you "rolled" someone's yard.
