1/10 th of a cc per 10lbs for Ivomec and Quest Gel. Coonhunting Vet told me to alternate between the 2 as 1 strand of heartworms wasn't killed by Ivomec.

I use ivermectin 1% injectable for cattle and swine bought at the farm store. It is given orally to dogs. You have to be careful of the dosage. The treatment dose is like 37 times higher than a prevention dose. And some dogs are sensitive to ivermectin especially higher doses and dogs with the MDR1 gene. My 70 pound coon dog gets 0.05 cc total for prevention which is double the dose in a 51-100lb. Heartgard tablet. It is very hard to measure such a small amount unless a 1cc syringe is used or the ivermectin is diluted. Check out this link.

Ivomec

Heartgard 30 is 291 micrograms of active Ivomectrin..
here is how to mix
I have used it for years(maybe 20) only difference is I mix Karo syrup and water instead if propylene glycol..
Plus I use a insulin syringe to measure

Directions for making 9:1 dilution of 1% solution

A 9:1 dilution works best for larger dogs. Ivemectin is given orally (never use pour-on solutions for heartworm prevention).

Mix 9 parts glycerin, propylene glycol, or vegetable oil to 1 part ivermectin 1% solution. Shake well before using to mix the ivermectin evenly. Refrigerate any unused portion (do not store mixtures with vegetable oil).

Dosage using Ivermectin 1% solution at 9:1 dilution for heartworm prevention (you may want to double these doses for better protection):

up to 18 pounds: 0.05 cc (one-half of 0.1 cc, or 1 drop from an eye dropper, assuming 20 drops per ml)
19 to 36 pounds: 0.1 cc
37 to 73 pounds: 0.2 cc
74 to 110 pounds: 0.3 cc
111 to 147 pounds: 0.4 cc

Ivermectin solution is given orally. It's best to squirt it into the mouth, rather than adding to food, to be sure your dog gets it all.

To make a small amount of the mixture, you will need a 1 cc syringe that measures accurately to the tenth of a cc or a dropper bottle. Draw up 0.1 cc of Ivermectin solution in a 1 cc syringe, and mix well with 0.9 cc of glycerin, propylene glycol, or vegetable oil, giving you 1 cc at a dilution ratio of 9:1. This is enough to treat 333 pounds of dogs using the 1% solution.

To make larger amounts of the mixture, use a 1 fluid ounce dropper bottle, which is 30 ml. Put 3 ml of ivermectin solution in a 1 fluid ounce dropper bottle, then fill with glycerin, propylene glycol, or vegetable oil. This will be enough to treat 9,000 pounds of dogs (e.g., 90 100-lb dogs) using the 1% solution.

1 cc of ivermectin 1% diluted 9:1 contains 1,000 mcg; 0.1 cc = 100 mcg ivermectin.
The exact dosage is 0.0272 ml (approximately 0.03 cc) per 10 pounds of body weight.

Inject it orally. Take a syringe and squirt in down their throat, hold muzzle and make sure it is ingested

Posted by DFred on 05-06-2015 08:09 PM:

Orally. I drip it on a slice of bread and make, sure he eats all of it.

Always get blood work done before starting a heart worm preventive. And I suggest a test every 6 months

You can purchase heart guard for half the cost from Australia and with out a script. I have used this website, petbucket.com the shipping is free and there prices are impossible to beat.

I can name 4 dogs that I personally know of that were on heart guard and never missed a month and got heart worms and when heart guard was called there answer to everyone is "it's a preventive not a cure."

The vets I've talked to use Ivomec. That really tells me something...

Ivomectin

My dog was on Ivomectin before I bought her et she had heartworms. Heartguards active ingredient is Ivomectin. I'm sure all meds have issues at some point but paying to treat a dog is really pricey. It pays to have the dog checked once a year no matter what med they're on. The blood test is only around $25. I'm having good luck with Tryfexis but it is kinda pricey but it covers fleas as well as the heartworms et some intestinal worms. Just food for thought guys.

unless you saw the guy squirt ivomec down her throat then you have no idea that she got her correct dose every month

I've been using Ivomectin for over 20 years, I haven't had a dog to test positive for heartworms since I've been using it.

Absolutely!

med

Guys my point was that no med is perfect. I had a bad experience with Ivomec et I know others have too. Wasn't saying that Ivomec shldn't be used. I've also heard of cases of heartworms after being on Interceptor. I don't know if it's still made. I just meant that it doesn't hurt to have your dog's blood checked now et then. I think it costs around $25 that's much better then the $650 it cost to get rid of the heartworms.
