If my memory is correct, the article I read stated Ron myer felt like the breed should move forward, not backwards by breeding back to old studs and he never had him collected. I sure wish he had cause I feel like he produced a lot of good tree dogs.

You're correct. I asked him about 15 years ago...paraphrasing my conversation with Mr. Myers, "...when I get to the point where I can't produce dogs better than what I have, I will stop breeding them.". He definitely believed everytime you breed you should produce a better product.

Did Mr.Myers ever get another "BO" ?
The way I look at it, you should always breed to better the breed, and you can breed traits into and out of a dog. Hard thing is getting one you like that reproduces what you like.

mighty hoss produced about as good. clyde a son of hoss has 68 pups with 5 nt 1 grnt and 2 others with 1st place wins and 1 that just needs a 1st. ron said his crook dog is as good as any he has had

Bo had a huge impact on the breed, and he likely would have more than doubled his number of pups if he hadn't gone sterile early.

When UKC first started there current reproducer list the stud dog part of it contained, Myers Hoss, Midnight Special, Blackland Bear, Blackland Ernie, and Splitting Ax within the first year (all sons of Bo). I may even be forgetting some. By that time Egli's Hoss II (another Bo son) was already on the historical list. That is a pretty big impact for one dog who only sired a few over 400 pups.

I almost forgot, Mac McClenahan had one from that cross that was outstanding but an alligator got her at a young age. I don't know if was the same cross or an earlier one. I think that cross was made at least 2 times.
Also, the guy in New York name is Leon. But I forgot his last name.
That whole litter made oustanding coondogs!

Not many studs can throw whole litters of coon dogs that reproduced, just think how many was hide dogs that never seen a hunt
