moonshine stills
Anyone ever run across any stills while out hunting? I hunt in a place that looks like it may have at one time been a still, but im not sure. Just watched a show last night, and wondered if anyone ever came accross one that was in operation while they were hunting.

Hunting in Land Between the Lakes in Western KY, there are a bunch that were blown up by the Revenue Agents during prohibition and probably after. There was a lot of copper scattered around when you got to looking, the giveaway was barrels around. If my grandfather was hunting with me, he could even tell me who the still had belonged to, as he had hauled sugar in during the depression to most. The land was so rocky and poor that basicly if you lived there you cut railroad ties or made whiskey !

came across a thermos the other night in the woods, kicked it and heard something rattle inside it. opened it up and lo and behold it wasthe "shake and bake" meth everyones doing nowdays. also have run up on a lab that had a bunch of gas cans laying around plastic baggies and a couple car batteries.
Theres a guy that still makes the shine in a little community about ten mins from where i live and sells it.

quote:Whatever. it burns blue on the finger finger but it still smells like its got a dead rat in it to me. At 18$ a quart I'd rather have Jack Danniels or even Wild Turkey or even a premium Scotch .It aint worth 18$ other than the novelty of it. Then, Like every body already said you got to make Apple Pie or Rabbiteye Blueberry hoecakes out of it to make it worth while. Now 6$ a gallon is another story. LOL

From 1930 to 2011 there's is usually one big hollow tree growing on the edge of a "stumphole as the licker was called, because of the shallow well. No matter that the still was located in Salkehatchie Swamp with River water within a hunderd feet or hid back in Jasper county on the edge of a hill , the water supply was always from a hole in the ground with seep water . Why ? I do not know. When I coon hunt I liable to find a couple of those old stumpholes every night. No Copper.it is gone . Maybe a Ball jar or two broken up . That's about it. You know if you are lost you are on the hilledge though so cut off your light and figure it out wich way is up. I have only found old stumpholes at night but I have found marijuanna patches in the day time and a crack still in the daytime while I am working in the woods. Whatever,I figure it is none of my business. I'm not paid to find Red Cockaided woodPeckers , That is beyond my scope of worrying about.
came across a little maryjane patch one nite so me and my buddy tore it up you would have thought ome hogs came threw there and even threw his chair in the reek beside it bet he was pretty happy we found his crop lol

The store bought white liquor is plumb nasty stuff, you need to have a buddy along to drink it, so you can take turns holding the gun ! There are a few around that cook it off still, but they do it more of an artform than as bootleggers. That old double run stuff is pretty good, you can drink it straight .... just remember to not take a breath to fast, as it is HOT ! Every so often, if it was agood year for grapes, a few get tired of wine and make a run of grape liquor, which has a interesting taste about it, but then the apple aint bad at all !
I have seen books from back around 1880, that gave the recipes to make about any type of beverage known, from wine to scotch, using grain alcohol as base just cut and add different flavorings to it ...... as it listed the ingredients for 100 gallon batches, I figure you had better really like it or know how to adjust down a bunch. If you didnt know where to get straight alcohol, there was another book for making stills, one in there was only 1000 gallons, I doubt that was a portable model unless you're name is Paul Bunyan.

theres alot of old stills around here, follow a creek and youll find whiskey stills. i use to help my daddy make it when i was little, i had to shake the jar and make it bead and tell em what proof it was. i bout rather drink gas than any kind of alkiehall.lol
Used to play at an old still. Never found one in operation.
I can tell you I would 100 times rather walk up on a still than walk up on a meth lab or pot patch.

I have some pieds mountain moonshine in my freezer. It's good but there was nothing better than popcorns liquor!!!!!! He was a american icon and his moonshine was amazing.
order you a reflux still off the internet.all you need then is sugar and water and yeast then.you can make 190 proof in one cook.always dillute with distilled water or it might make your shine cloudy.
