Pups getting eat up in competition hunts.

Ive heard time and time again people complaining about thir pups getting eat up on the tree at a hunt.. My question is do most of you think its due to mean dogs or half broke young dogs bouncing all over the other dog and it getting tired of it?

I think young dogs get intimidated more than anything, weren't we intimidated by some adults as kids other than ones we knew??

Ive never seen the ill dog problem as bad as everyone says

I HAVE A FEMALE THAT HAD ENOUGH OF IT ONE NIGHT. THE MAN WOULD NOT TIE HIS UP FOR NOTHING AND SHOCKED HIS DOG FOR EVERYTHING AND THOUGHT HE WAS A TRAINER. WELL SHE TRAINED THE PUP ALL RIGHT. THAT WAS THE ONLY TIME I EVER SEEN HER ACT UGLY. I TOLD HIM OVER AND OVER TO TIE THE PUP UP.

This is the exact thing Im talking about.. Ive seen the exact thing unfold with my own 2 eyes and the idiot with the pup said the grown dog was ill when his pup was bouncing all over and chewing on the grown dog for 2 minutes before the grown dog finally rolled the pup..

So many young pups are entered in the hunts that physically can get the job done but just are not mentally mature enough. If you have to worry about how your pup would react to an aggressive dog or possibly negatively effect their progress if in case they were eaten up on the tree then IMO their not ready for the hunts.

FIRST MISTAKE

IS PUTTIN THAT PUP IN A HUNT. HE MAY HAVE THE ABILITY, BUT NOT THE MATURITY WHICH GOES HAND IN HAND WITH REALLY BEIN SET BACK WHEN OLD FANG THROWER GIVES HIM A MAULIN.
<v>P.S. TUBZ, YOU BEAT ME TO THE PUNCH, BUT AGREE TOTALLY.
HOUNDS THESE DAYS ARE BRED WITH A PILE OF BRAINS, AND GETTIN OVERHAULED BY ANOTHER DOG WHILE TRYIN TO DO WHAT THEY ARE SUPPOSSED TO(TREE), CAN REALLY SCRAMBLE THEIR WAY OF THINKIN.

hunts

never did do the hunts but my 2 cents aint worth much but if you have a young dog that is not mature enough to either sit back off the tree and tree or stand on the tree in 1 spot you going to get in trouble it gets to jumping on the tree and falling on the other dogs theres gonna be a fight if i had a young dog that jacked on a tree i always got there quick and put it on a leash made it tree on the tree dead still wouldnt let it jump but you cant always get them all completly broke jmo

So what's these dogs that are eating pups up gonna do when a tree jacker is with em or another grown dog bumps them??? Im just wondering.

I HAVE A SIX YEAR OLD MALE THAT WILL NOT BACK FOR THIS VERY REASON. IF HE GETS ATE UP HE SHOULD NOT BEEN THERE.

Getting bumped into at the tree is a lot different than getting jumped all over.My question is whos the aggressor the tree jacking idiot or the dog that gets irritated at it for falling on them?.

my very first nite hunt i ever hunted in my dog got chewed up pretty bad but i was glad i WAITED until he was mature enough to handle a situation like that age to me is not the factor but maturity is what counts jmo...by the way it didnt ruin him. he was 2 and a half

IN MY OPINION TWO WRONGS DONT MAKE A RIGHT.

1ST WRONG: ENTERING A DOG THAT IS TOUCHY/MEAN/ILL FOR WHATEVER REASON. IF THE DOG CANT STAND ON THE TREE AND NOT BOTHER ANOTHER DOG THEN IT DOESN'T NEED TO BE IN A HUNT. I MEAN IF YOU ARE AT WAL-MART AND SOMEONE COMES BY AND BARELY BUMPS INTO YOU, ARE YOU GOING TO TURN AROUND AND KNOCK THE HELL OUTTA THEM FOR THAT?

2ND WRONG: ENTERING A PUP THAT IS NOT READY TO BE PUT INTO THOSE SITUATIONS WETHER IT IS MENTALLY OR PHYSICALLY.

we've never try to hunt or train a pup with another dog.....

when you do that it's harder on the pup because they are not thinking about hunting all they are thinking is play time!! now we have a mother and her two pups that we are training together and she is the ultimate pup trainer!!!! she will hunt no matter what! and her pup will bite her ears at the tree and everything! I know we've never had a dog with so much patience!!! my dad said that she is a good dog to hunt other pups with!

Point Blank: A great competition dog will not be bothered by a tree jacker, ear nipper, gator, pup, etc, etc. A good competition dog knows when to find the other side of the tree or back up 5 or 6 feet. I prefer a sit down tree dog for this very reason of staying out of trouble. If I own a stand on the wood tree dog, he better know when to back up or find the other side of the tree, but I WILL NOT tolerate a fighter. I don't care who started it.

The purpose of this post was not to defend either side but, I've seen too many times people putting pups in the hunts that were not mature enough to leave the other dogs alone.

Christy I agree 2 wrong dont make a right. A grown dog definitely needs to stand in one spot and tree but if your gonna put a pup in a hunt doesnt it need to be mature enough to stand in one spot and tree too?

I have NEVER read a better response to this subject. If more people thought like this mean dogs would not be an issue.

may be that is why there is so much split treeing going on?
i would just soon mine come back in as to spend a day in the
vet. office and a 2oo bucks sewing it up for a 3 dollar trophy
dont add up.

First hunt i ever had my Banjo dog in he was 14 months. Local hunt . He had been hunted 99% of the time by himself. I thought i knew the dogs we drew but apparently i didnt!!

First drop there was a 3 dog fight! all females! and Banjo was so rattled from the situation he pretty much quit.

2nd hunt was 2 months later and we had a good cast of dogs and banjo rocked this cast 950+ 450 circle no minus.

Regardless of what anyone says it depends on the dog and their maturity level. you can have 3 year olds that dont know how to act in a cast. its all about a dog being mentally tough
