I don't think anyone will have to worry about that.. Yes it can get ruff in the mountains and knobs.. But I don't see anyone taking the kids to those places. I have a 13 year old daughter and a 7 year old son. Theres places I wont take my son beause of the land. But theres alot of places I don't think twice about takinf either one of them. If everything works out for us, I hope to have my kids there.

I'm sure but that hunt draws 100+ kids so you have enough easy spots for 25+ cast ??

It is an excellent choice for the Youth Nationals and I'm glad the Meigs County Coonhunters have agreed to host it. This club holds the largest Youth State Championship hunt in the country year in and year out! Well them and North Carolina. Seems they must be doing something right when it comes to showing the kids a good time in the woods. They sure enjoy going back every year.

How do you not reward the two largest drawing areas in the country (north carolina and tennessee) in terms of youth events with a shot at hosting the youth nationals? The club is known for hosting quality events with quality judging. It will be a great Youth Nationial this year. I'm going to predict it will be the largest ever. Heck, if every road into the State were to get blocked it will still draw 100 dogs. No other location in the country could make that statement. Plus it's centrally located. Heck yeah.

ID LIKE TO START BY SAYING IM NOT TRYING TO MAKE ANY ONE MAD NORE IM I TRYING TO TAKE ANYTHANG AWAY FROM ANY ONE! Now i do believe that here in noth central indiana we could say that we could put on one of the best youth national ever.heck we have hosted some of the best events in ukc here in north central indiana includig the world hunt last year(are worst spots are better then most others best spot)and every one of these events WHERE GREAT . I believe the fact that we have agreat coon population and plenty of easy woods to hunt has been a big factor in all this.the kids wouldnt have to worry about snakes, bears, moutain lions or any other major predators. The weather usaly isnt to hot or is it to cold so no one would have to stay couped in a motel or camper.and as far as the camping goes there plenty of great state parks and camp ground in this area so u could make it out to be a great vacation.heck indiana beach and cedar point are all with in a couple hour drive. The land is all pretty flat so the kids can all hunt with out the worry of getting lost in moutain cause they got seperated from the cast. Besides all this north cental indiana is in a great location.parents could get kids here from iowa,wi,mn,mi,oh,ny,pa,ky,tn,mo,nc,ga all with in an easy 8 hour drive (of coarse depending where you life in these states) I WOULD LIKE TO THANK UKC FOR THE YOUTH PROGRAM.I BELIEVE IT IS A GREAT THANG FOR THE SPORT!!

I'm looking forward to it. I live about 20 miles away from the club. Yes it CAN get rough but I would be willing to bet that the guides will not put the kids in anything too rough. I'm sure it's not going to compare to Indiana where you can easily tree 10 coons, but I bet the kids will score on some coons and have a good time doing it.

I hunted there a couple years back at the AKC youth world and I thought the club did an excellent job. As for the terrain, it is pretty hilly, but I didn't think it was that rough. Oh and when I hunted there the ticks were HORRIBLE so bring some spray.

What's up with the one hour hunts both nights? I'm not gonna drive ten hours to hunt 2 hours... I know it's hot but man it was 108 at 8 last year

Ya I was wondering the same. I think one hour is fine for Friday night but not for the Championship hunt. I thought that it was wrong in the bloodlines.

Posted by boonetreecoon on 06-02-2011 07:42 PM:

I was hoping it was. Last year it screwed me only being an hour so I'm not gonna drive up there for a one hour championship hunt

Doesn't matter where they have it someone will complain! Doesn't matter how long or short the hunt is someone will complain! Doesn't matter how the show goes someone will complain! Doesn't matter what UKC or the Meigs County Club does or does not do someone will complain! It's the nature of the beast!

So, I would just like to say I hope everyone that does make an effort to attend has safe travels and wish all the participants good luck. For our family it can't get here fast enough!!
