Worst Night Ever!!

Went last night just going for a couple drops and come back home, unfortunatly that didnt happen. The first drop the dogs treed deep got there it was a den. Then we sent them towards the truck, they treed within 25 yards of the truck. And this is were i went wrong instead of just loading them up, i decided to cut them loose one more time. They treed probly 2 miles from the truck, there is no roads just have to walk throught the woods in the 10degree weather. It wasnt too bad getting there but when we had to cross the last creek to get to the dogs i decided to take a dip in the half frozen water with my $800 tracking system my $200 gps and my dads cell phone. Then after i get out of the water get all the dogs leaded up, i was trying to get up a creek bank and the leads slip out of my hands, and there they go with smoke coming off there feet. My female trees right next to the truck and i come and i cant find my pup anywhere. So i decided to load her up and get home so i dont catch hypothermia. So on my way home i see some eyes on the side of the road and it was my dog laying down, i thought he was dead but as soon as i stopped he ran and jumped in the back of the truck. I guess he was a little cold too. lol

You treed coons and your dogs made it home, I wouldn't call that the worst night ever.

I hope that this is the worst hunt that you ever have and that you have many more good hunts. I do have to agree with Phillip, though.

I had a similer night back in November except my dog was laying along the road dead after being hit by a car. When you leave with a couple dogs and one never comes home again thats a bad night. When you and all the dogs you left with are back home its actually been a good night some are just better than others. And I hope you never have to go through losing a good hound like I did this fall.

everybody has a bad night once in a while, dont giveup as long as your hunting blue many good nights will come to u

Posted by willseeyalater on 02-01-2007 07:44 AM:

glad you all came in together

That will probably be the night you talk about when you get old and your grandkids complain about how hard a time they are having. Then you tell about the time when........and hopefully their eyes don't glaze over. If you get blessed you will have grandkids that ask you for hunting stories. I used to ask my granny about her life, she told me one time about catching one of her mom's best egg layin hens in a snare she had set. (Can't imagine her setting snares but they lived way back in the tullies) She knew she would get in trouble so she tossed it into the woods. Great granny caught her anyhow and she got in trouble for wasting it as well. That must have been about 1910 when she did that. Write down some of your stories from hunting and stuff. It's important to someone if you are doing right by those that will follow your footsteps.

If it was good nights everytime you turned loose then everyone would coon hunt. If you stick with it through the bad ones it will show later. Jonah

Hey Cousin,

When you gonna get them blue dogs back over to the lake? Hopfully we won't drown, lol. Tell your dad he may want to invest in insurance for your equipment since you like to wear it when you go swimming in 8 degree weather. I'm just glad you made it out un-hurt with your dogs.

billyblue,

you were BRAVER than me, I sat the last few nights out. I thought sure that you were going to say that you lost a dog, though. You better watch the ICE, it's getting dangerous around here now.

Since I see that you are only 14 years old & driving, I won't tell my 2 sons, which are both Illinois, State Highway Patrolmen about you, LOL. You would probably be home free, though as soon as they seen your dog box???????????

Hang in there, because you will have some better hunts & some worse hunts, & HOPEFULLY not many of the later. GOOD HUNTING TO YOU & YOUR HOUNDS.

john who are your two sons and where is their beet at? ive hunted with a state cop a couple times around here didnt know if he was your son.

Posted by John Wittenborn on 02-06-2007 01:21 PM:

coonsmen,

they are both down here in the DuQuion District # 13, the last couple of years. The oldest son is Jeff, & goes by J. J. & the youngest is Jay. A couple of years ago, they were both in the TRT program, which is like a SWAT TEAM, & Jeff was the leader of it. At that time most of their work was around the East St. Louis area. At that time Jeff lived just outside of Carmi, & Jay lived out in the country northeast of Fairfield, so it created alot of FAST road time when they had to get over into the E. St. Louis area in a hurry. I'm glad that they both got out of that program. Both are VERY DOWN TO EARTH GUY'S.

i dont think it was aby of them.yeah i know what you mean it being scarey. i did a ride along in chicago two years ago and it seemd like for every three squad cars there was 1 with a bullet hole in it. pretty creepy. im starting out small but hopefully will be a state ticket writer soon.
