New Nite Hunting Degree Requirements VS New Pandemic

With pretty much everything closed world wide, and all the nite hunt closures. Does anyone know when the hunts will pick back up? Does anyone else think maybe UKC should consider reinstating the old point system? Maybe consider lowering entry fees to the hunts when/if things go back to normal to keep people affected by this world wide crisis.

I personally dont think a ukc hunt is worth dang 30 bucks! Dont even get a receipt anymore. Might as well go hunt pkc. Ive supported ukc hunts but come on now.

Randy I don't like the $30 entry either but if you go to a UKC hunt that has 10 dogs and place 1st you winnings are higher than the pkc hunt .

How's that? Maybe I can't do math. $30 enters get 0 back, $30 entry get something back whether its $30 or more.

Perforance

If your hound is a UKC Performance hound, and you have 10 dogs, 1st place would be worth 1 point. Last numbers I heard at this years rate that would be in the $70 to $80 range. Each dog is worth .10 x10 = 1 point. Owner of the Sire gets 10% and owner of the Dam gets 10% of winnings. so you would minus $14 to $16. That would be you total winnings. your take home would be in the $56 to $ $64 range. Or if you owned both parents you would get the full amount.

[/B][/QUOTE]

Last point value publish in April was 106.75

106.75 x 20% =21.35 for sire and dam owners portion
106.75- 21.35 =
85.40 take home for 1st place 10 dog entry if you did not own sire or dam
2nd place would get 42.70
3rd would get 21.35

That's the killer. If you have to wait until March or April the following year you won't draw any hunters. Too long of a wait time on your winnings.

if your hunting ukc your mainly doing it for the title of nite ch or grand nite ch as far as the entry fees goes I don't much like paying 30 bucks myself but I hunt way more pkc than ukc and im use to it I wish ukc would do some type of state race and have a little pay at the end of the year with that

waiting

Is your 1099 for your taxes larger form PKC or UKC??? And if you didn't receive a 1099 from either PKC or UKC, Dose the wait really matter that much??

Posted by yadkintar on 04-28-2020 01:51 PM:

Those clubs charging $30 for a poor boy hunt are being greedy. You can have $25 and $35 slams and slam fees are cheaper. And the hunters get paid that night , they get performance points and a win and qualified for the tournament of champions. The $35 double header minie slams works best for us. You gain $10 a dog the extra $5 club portion helps pay the $7 a dog fee. Y’all need to do some research this program is the best for the hunters.

Money

My amount of $ was about the same for both UKC and PKC, and I had to wait on both Checks. But I am old, and don't attend many hunts any more. My winnings come from the hard work and time put in from the people who do..

Dave,
I've never personally entered a dog in UKC. I've had buddies ask if they could hunt my dogs in UKC. And yes for most the wait does matter. Would you work at a job or do work for someone and wait until the following year to be paid the $100.

Tar,
I agree the clubs are greedy. And what they're saying is that well the fees went up for us.....so the fees go up for you (the customer). Makes sense until you look at other clubs. I've said from day 1 with the fee increases that UKC needs to have a set fee that the hunters are willing to pay. $30 for a poor boy is what a local club here is charging. I stopped being a member of that club about 4 or 5 years ago. If a club relies on hunt fees to pay their bills they need to re-evaluate their club. A club should not rely on those fees at all. Their membership fees should pay for all the bills involved, insurance, electric, heat, and mortgage if there is 1. I know of several clubs (not coonhounds) that have a surplus every year on their books. They don't hold but 2 events a year that are 2 day events and its limited to 18 dogs per day. They don't count on the events to support their club. So when I hear this club or club is over charging I get a bit upset.

I haven't seen any of our local clubs with a 30 dollar entry fee for a poorboy hunt, but may have missed it
I know most local clubs are getting 15 or 20 dollars for a poorboy hunt. I do know that some clubs have breed sectionals and the fees are increased as most breed associations require a fee or so much for each dog entered and when clubs hold them most are full trophy events and they try to get nice trophies witch cost money. I also believe that many people do not realize that each event cost the clubs money just to host a hunt 25 for 1 hunt or 35 for a double header as well as17 dollars for a bench show, 17 dollars for a field trial and another 17 dollars for a water race if the club members choose to have those add on events and then you add on 7 dollars per dog entered for the night hunt part and 2 dollars per dog entered in the other events
It can be hard to figure out as the clubs have to set this all up a couple of months in advance all they need is some bad weather, but they still have the license fees to pay even if no dogs show up. I will agree that some entry fees are to high 30 dollars for a poor boy is crazy

$30...

I get that $30 is the highest entry UKC has ever charged, but in the realm of things its still extremely cheap. Try being on the rodeo circuit, motocross, or even bass fishing. Now on the other side of it if I can pay an extra $5 an event and have a hunt that's for $50,000 then I think its a smart investment. Went to a UKC DH last weekend and the club had 6 casts. More dogs than they have seen in years. I'm hunting a GNTCH that needs 1-2 more wins to get her 5 for the tournament of champs. Once that happens Ill stay strictly PKC until September or until I have something else ready. I think these hunts will get cut throat once the deadline for 5 wins closes in...

Hunts

The real issue is finding a real coon club because there's not many left.If you have or live near a club that has enough guides and woods to hunt several casts you better support it. If 10.00 to 15.00 makes that big of difference to you it's time to revaluate your situation maybe need to find another hobby.

Posted by Hoosier Man1 on 04-29-2020 05:48 PM:

There probably hasn't been a bigger supporter of UKC in the last decade then me. Enter with my own money and hunt my own dogs. One thing I will all but guarantee, you won't get rich in either Kennel club. You will be lucky to break even in either and I'm totally fine with that. It's a hobby and like any other hobby it comes with some cost.

The hunts that make the absolute most sense for all involved is scheduling mini slam double headers. It's a win win for everyone involved. Really, I see little reason to have anything other then a mini slam now with the current hunt formats. Get paid that night for a cast win, earn performance points, and get a win toward the big hunt.

I applaud the clubs that schedule these hunts for the hunters to benefit from.

I'm fairly certain anyone that is complaining about a $30 hunt is not the same person that is a member of a struggling club trying to put a hunt together for the complainer.
Support the club and enjoy the hunt while it's still available to enjoy.

Thanks for the great response mr novicane65. This is exactly what we need on this website. People that don't hunt UKC and aren't members of any coon club telling the ones that are how to keep there clubs open and how to run their hunts. I rarely agree with your posts and this one is no different.

No one has to read any posts. Glad you felt like you needed to voice your opinion on my posts though. I am a member of a club but not the closest club to me. So I'm glad again thanks for the input.
And for the record no club should be relying on hunt entries to keep the doors open. Hunt entries vary too much to be reliable for steady income.
