What's it worth?
What is it worth hunt a dog for someone for 30 nights? $300? $500? That's 30 nights in the woods even if you have to keep the dog 45 days just to make sure you get all the days in.

I think it depends on the guy holding the leash. I'm not paying for the dog to be hunted, I'm paying for a certain person to be hunting the dog.

You will spend the $300 making the $500.

As Blacklabel said, it depends on the one who is hunting the dog, If you are the one that's going to be hunting the dog for 30 nights, THEY will be getting a bargain at ANY price. Dave

It's worth a lot to hunt one right. If you only burn $10 a night in gas at $500/30 days your making less then $7 a night. It's a little better if the owner is paying all expenses but not much. I wouldn't think $800-$1000 would be out of the question. A good dog man can take a dog a long ways in 30 nights.

Just add it up,
$10 in gas a night
3 hours a night at minimum wage is around $24
So $34x30 nights is $1020. There are a lot more expenses also that you will have. People have been ripping guys off for years paying them $300 for 30 nights. Just imagine how much money someone has in a 18 month old pup they sell for $2500 and think they are making money.

You definitely won't make any money, but the pleasure factor will be priceless. Hunting is definitely not about the money, it's all about the pleasure of enjoying the outdoors and seeing a dog progress. Dave

I’m in the mindset of I’m going anyways, it’s a friend of mine wanting it hunted so fuel and time doesn’t cost him anything as I’d go either way. Charging $350 and I bag of dogfood for 30 actual hunting nights. May take 45 days to get it but that’s what I told him

$350 wouldn't cover the misery I'd go thru the first night I had to pull quills lol.
I've actually only ever come across a couple guys in 30 years I'd even let take one of my young dogs hunting without me let alone pay them to.

That sounds reasonable enough to me.

Your friend is getting a bargain, it's really not about the money, hunting is satisfaction in itself. You could not pay me enough to hunt these mountains, but I do it for free and for fun. Lol. Dave

Hypothetically speaking, If you could give the same pup to five different people, in a years time you would have five different dogs. Just saying, if you hire someone, at any cost, better know them or have some close friend references. I've seen some very disappointing results from someone hired to hunt a dog.
TylerOSU you would be doing your friend a favor.

Training Labs is different. 20 of those 60 dogs are titled males and females that are semi-retired and breeding / hunting. 20 of those dogs are started dogs and your buddy has someone (experienced kennel help but not a pro) hired to do basic obedience and force fetch. 20 of those dogs are in actual training at the seasoned / finished level. I'll bet your buddy has another person hired that loads wingers, runs bumpers to piles, brings him dogs from the truck, etc. Your buddy spends 10 minutes per dog on the same test scenario. Break for lunch, set up another test scenario, then do it again in the afternoon. Hard work but it can be done. With help. Just pointing out the differences between retriever and hound training. Carry on...lol

Coonhunters are some of the cheapest people when it comes to hunting or training a dog. Most will balkif asking someone to work a dog for then if your quote them $5-800 a month. When in reality if you break it down to nightlybor hourly $800 a month is a bargain. I can’t hunt my owns and hunt it right for that. I average 120 miles a night hunting one if I hunt one 5 nights a week I’ll have $80-100 just in fuel a week not counting time.
Guys
You could never charge enough to actually make money, it comes down to enjoyment and pride in what one does. Myself, I would not hunt anyone else's dog, as I enjoy hunting my own dogs. Thank the Lord for friends like Tyler who will hunt you dog for a very modest price, as he says to help with his maintenance costs. Kudos to Tyler. Dave

If its for a real buddy than I wouldn't charge anything. If its for the guy down the street its over 1000 to break even. If its for the enjoyment of hunting Ill hunt my own.
