I HAVE.....A time or 2...... I used to get into lots of stuff!

Never seen a game warden in the woods after dark in my life. In IL they are so broke, someone has to call you in before they can log the overtime.

One time a county sheriff just happened to drive by while my buddy and I were getting ready to turn loose. He asks us how we were doing, asked us what kind of dogs we had, etc. He was really nice. Drove off and never asked about license or anything. Same sheriff caught our dogs one time running down the road, too (forgot about that one). He had a dog lead in his Jeep Cherokee, and he tied the dog to his mirror. He was a great guy.

Thats the only time I have ever had "the law" on me after dark. Southeast Illinois is easy as far as game wardens go.

1) Had one meet me at the tree one night. First thing out of his mouth was "hunting a little out of season aren't ya". (I wasn't, he thought I was running bear) I said, nope. Then he said what are you hunting? I told him coon, wanna see it? Proceeded to shine my light up in the tree and it was sitting right there just as pretty as could be. Then he made up a lame excuse that people down the road complained about my dog barking, that was a crock.

2) We were rig hunting, our dogs struck off the truck and we cut them loose. Sat on the tailgate until they treed and a cop drove by. Spun his car around in the middle of the road like he just won a Nascar race, jumped out with his hand on his gun and said..."Don't you know it's illegal to hunt at night in the state of NH??? Dah, We proved him wrong the next morning when we called his boss and told him before his officers try to enforce the laws, they might want to learn them!

I only seen one person at nigh that had somethin to do with the law, and that was a deputy sheriff, it was durin july and we had our rabbit dogs out runnin and me and my brother went riding around shootin armodillos and we lost the dogs while we were dillo huntin, we were riding down the dirt road tryin to find the dogs with two 22lr and spotlight on a mule. he come by us and waved and kept on goin. we turned and went down in the woods to a corn field to see if we could see them, and we heard a horn blowin up on the dirt road. we sat there a minute not knowin who it was and then decided to ride up there was blue lights flashin and he was shinin his little window mounted spotlight down the road we were in, he asked us what we were doin, we told him and he said he saw them down the road comin down it and he figured that what we were lookin for and he went on and helped us catch them then he went on.

grandpas told us stories about how to deal with folks in the dark..
havent had to try any yet ..Dang it....
what about the one from a guy on here...he left his light on a fence post and went to the wardens truck and took the keys out of it.....thats a classic idea.

What are ya'll folks doing while your coon hunting. We hardly ever have a problem with game wardens while coonhunting. They concentrate all their time on people deer hunting where there is more revenue i assume. Of course, we have a law in Alabama that states it isnt tresspassing to coon hunt as long as there is no firearm involved.

Russell, Its the same in Southern Illinois. Game Wardens are too worried about deer and turkey to worry about Ricky Raccoon. Works out in our favor though so I'm not complaining.

Had some friends one night that had their dogs out during the summer and a deputy sheriff came down their deer camp road with his lights flashing. He acused them of spotlighting deer, they produced a dead coon(which was out of season) and he made some smart remarks so when he went deeper into the camp to turn around they proceeded to leave and lock the gate!!! He never bothered them again.

I get checked at least 2 or 3 times during deer season, dang city people call the warden cause our dogs are barking and lights shining..

one time while roading the dogs we had a game warden, 2 county mounties and a hi-way patrol come in on us, it was'nt funny at the time but looking back it is now..

I got mad at em at told em a few things (I think it helped that I had a Mo hunting/fishing regulation book in the truck) my son was along and he sure thought the ole man was going to jail..LOL

I have had this happen twice, night before last they were treed in a beaver and bout time we got to the tree somebody started shootin a high powered rifle in the air(Im guessin) and it was close so it didnt take us long to get out. the other time was on a competition hunt when three of the dogs treed right behind a trailer park they started shootin before we got to the tree, when we got the tree we could see the trailers, we hollered at them just so they would know we were there and what we were doin

Been checked 2 times by game wardens.

once out pleasure hunting about 15 yrs ago1(New warden and trying to let his presence be known). Once by pair of wardens and we were in a night hunt! Never got in any trouble either time.Been checked by several sheriff deputies just curious to see I'm not doing any thing suspicious.Once they see the dogs and my hunting gear they usually leave me alone!

I have never seen a CO while coon hunting. Deer Season, always. We have had the cops called on us before though. There used to be one cop that would pull over when he seen us leading the dogs into the woods. He'd stop us and just ask what we were doing, good night to run the dogs, etc.

Only had a run in with the law twice, one night during a kill season a c/o stopped us to ask if we had seen his dog..kinda backward situation for us, and once a guy called the law on a group of us after accusing us of stealing his dog which we hadnt done, three hours later and him looking like an idiot we got to go back to hunting.
