State Race Q's & A's

We are well aware that many of you might have had some questions pertaining to the Black Gold State races that have went unanswered causing some frustration on the part of our beaglers and understandably so. The last few months wammy of major events are now in the books for the most part and we've got a little more time to keep an eye out for your questions via this forum. We apologize for the inconvenience it may have caused but appreciate your patience through our period of being a little short handed.

Now I may not always have an answer point blank but will do what it takes to get an answer so fire away!

how are ties going to be handled?? You are taking the top 16 dogs from each region. What if places 15-20 are all tied with 30 points. Which 16 dogs get to go or are you going to take all 20?

Posted by VICKY B on 10-01-2008 01:29 PM:

state runoff

Do you receive anything for being hi point dog in your state? Or overall the country?
I am also curious about the ties? Will the jrs run at the same time as older dogs so you can run both? I mean a different round, same hunt.
Thx.

Question: How will ties for 16th place in a state or region be broke?

A: Tie-breakers are still being discussed. We have discussed several different options as well as what the first tie breaker should be. Most likely, the first of several tie breakers will be most cast wins. (double points events vs single points events) But that is only tentative at this point. As soon as a final decision has been made in this regard it will be announced. All dogs tied for 16th advancing to the state or regional runoff will likely not be an option.

Q: Will the dog with the most points earned in each state or region recieve an award or prize?

A: An award/prize package is still being worked out at this time. So, the answer is, yes, there will be something for the high point All Age as well as Junior in each state or region it just hasn't been set in stone exactly what that will be yet. Most likely along the lines of dog food plaques and possibly even shirts. And yes, there will also be something State Runoff Winners as well as the National Winner at the Beagle Nationals.

Q: Will Juniors run in the state runoff on the same day as the All Age?

A: Yes, all eligible Juniors will run on the same day as All Age in the state/region runoffs.

Q: If my club would like to be considered for the state/regional runoff who do we contact?

A: Mail a written request to UKC (Attention Allen) with your clubs information and what you could provide in terms of facility, quality non -hunting guides and non-hunting judges.

Posted by TwoSocks on 10-20-2008 04:06 AM:

Well, Jim Woods asked a question over two weeks ago, myself and Sundown Beagles a few days ago. I'm sure we would all appreciate if our questions were answered......in a timely fasion.

I thought that after you purchased a dog you could only hunt it once in the other persons name then you have to put it in your name and if you buy one after June the points don't transfer. But I don't know.

Dave we will let you come down here and run with us if you want.

Dave, I thought that T. Morgan posted that when a dog is bought from another state, in order for the points to transfer, you must first get as many points in the new state as the old to transfer them.
example: dog from Iowa, 40 pts. dog goes to Ohio, dog must get atleast 40 pts. to be able to tranfer the points from Iowa. in that case at which the points reach 40 pts. or higher the Iowa points would be added the the ohio points. Hope this helps

That's what Todd told me in April, when a dog is bought from another state, in order for the points to transfer, you must first get as many points in the new state as the old to transfer them.

Jim, the entry fee will most likely be set at $20. This will give the club a decent payout as host for the runoffs.

Twosocks, specific dates have not yet been set. Only tentative, which has been published in mags as well as discussed on the forums. (February through April) We will suggest clubs have them in late February through March depending on the geographic location. ??? We will likely give the club the option on the specific date they wish to have the runoff. For several reasons, runoffs may not all be held on the same day. All that information will be published prior to.

Sundown, the state in which the owner on record lives on May 1st of the calendar year is the state in which the dogs state race points are recorded to.

Larry Dean, that may very well have been an idea that was discussed. I have pounded my head trying to find any ideas of that nature published without any luck and came to the conclusion that the idea never went any further than discussions.

Within the next several weeks we will start contacting clubs that are interested in hosting the runoffs. We thank all those that have expressed interest and/or sent in a request for consideration.

Are these dumb questions, If you end the 08 season feb. through april do you wait till 08 season is over to start 09 season? If so that seams to limit the next season . In wi. seems like most regular hunts are held during these months. We do'nt have the same number of events that you do in say WV. or OH. is this going to be an issue in states that do'nt have the clubs to keep up ? Thanks Jim

Posted by Allen / UKC on 10-30-2008 01:53 PM:

Jim, the reference of February through April is for the runoffs of the previous calendar years 16 high point dogs. The state race year starts January 1st and ends December 31st of each year. In 2009, as an example, state race points may be earned starting January 1st. Which would be prior to the runoffs for the previous year. Hope this makes sense.

Posted by Smoke747 on 11-19-2008 02:45 PM:

When will we no where the runoffs will be in each state,
and dates.Thanks

Posted by Allen / UKC on 11-19-2008 09:32 PM:

I'm working on scheduling the runoffs as we speak actually. So far we have WV, NC and MO scheduled. As soon as I have them all nailed down we'll make that announcement. I am working towards a deadline of December 1st so that we can publish it in January publications.

To those clubs who sent in requests for consideration; thank you. Obviously, we won't be able to accomodate everyone who sent a request. Nonetheless, I appreciate the interest.

Still working on WI/MN, VA/MD, OH, MI, and WA/OR.

Just this year or for now on?

Has UKC decided to leave run off locations in one spot or what?

Jack

Jack, I'm not sure I understand your question. The requests were from clubs who wanted to be considered for their state/ regions runoffs.

Posted by xdawgbeagles on 11-24-2008 11:03 PM:

Will the run off for WV been held in the same spot each year?

Jack

State Runoff locations may in fact be moved around year after year. They won't necessarily be at the same location although they could if it works out that way. First, we would need to see what clubs might be interested in hosting them.
