On the phone with the vet, used to be under the skin at the shoulder, now they say it's better to do in the hip INTO the muscle. He said look on the bottle. Some manufactorers reccomend differantly.

I've been taking them to the Vet for so long, I couldn't remember exactly, I let the Vet do it now, because I've heard the State of Ohio says something to the fact that it has to be recorded at the Vet's office that the immunization was given. Just having the tag isn't good enough anymore just in case the dog bites someone.

NO NO NO , I laughed because he actually had the nerve to call you a moron, when in all actuality it used to be done that way. Obviously he/she's the moron. Sorry if you took that the wrong way.

Depends on the type used, they can go either.
Make sure your state isn't on the "vet only" list or it won't matter if the dog has had a shot or not. Here in TN it has to be done by a vet. Of coarse, if you do it yourself here and the animal is attacked by a rapid animal then it at least protects the dog, but if anyone says your dog attacked or bit them they will still be quarantined.

We have the vet do it just to be safe. My parents have a lazy ol' house dog that is 1/2 pyr, 1/2 golden retriever. He just goes outside to lay on the porch. They live, over 1500 ft. off the main road in the country, dead end too. An older lady (meaner then a hornet) up the road decided to go walking one day and walked down the private driveway while the dog was asleep on the porch. She came into my parents yard, and when Jake walked up to her she began beating him with her walking stick. The dog is very friendly at at 8 yrs. old has never had a problem with anyone. Well, this lady walks back up the driveway and the next day there is a cop at the door asking for the dog. He said that she had been bitten by Jake and had to go to the hospital, she was demanding the dog be destroyed. Long story short, not even the cops believed her. She claimed to have been biten on the butt so badly that it required stitches, She was NOT treated for any bite but the doctor said she had a rash like look to her butt. Her pants were not torn, (remember this dog is very large, 98 pounds), she was on private property, and was beating the dog at the time she said it happened! Of coarse she claimed to them that she doesn't even walk with a stick.. but when the cop came back to her house she was in her yard with stick in hand...

Anyways, Jake was UTD on his rabies shots and we had proof by the vet, who also backed up that the dog has never had a history of aggression. The cop knew she had lied luckily and after visiting with the dog several times and documenting his sweet temperment nothing was done about it.. but my parents still had to pay her hospital bill and for medication to ease her pain (I think a bullet would have been cheaper). They said though that without complete proof that it did NOT happen, had he not been current on his vaccines and documented they would have taken him.

shot

in Georgia, a vet has to treat the dog for rabies by law, or if something happens, the dog will be destroyed by the powers that be. If you have a good dog, and like it, the samll cost of the shot, around 10.00 here, seems cheap enough for piece of mind.
We normally have a clinic that reduces the cost to 6.00 per shot and the vet that comes shoots them in the hip.

in pa it has to be done by a vet and you have to have the documentation. when my vet gives the shot it is in the hip in the muscle. he told me that the 7way shot can be given in the neck.
i have a 9yr old mix breed dog who has arthritis. she is usually very sweet. but when the vet gave her her rabies shot he had to be very fast to avoid her teeth. seems he gave her the shot in the hip that had the arthritis.
