Winning Percentage?

What is considered to be a good winning percentage when hunting in competitions?

90%.....anything less is not acceptable to me .. ....I don't like donateing any more than 10%.

Posted by Richard Lambert on 12-19-2019 08:27 PM:

Fifty per cent is good, seventy five per cent is excellant.

Percentage

I always tried for 75%, like Richard Said that's excellent, never seen or heard of one that was 100%. Way to many factors to consider, but a dog winning 75% of their cast is a WINNER in any man's book. Dave

I feel as though it should be very close to the accuracy rate of the dog being hunted. JMO

Thanx Dave

Not true. My dog is about 40% accurate and our winning percentage is nowhere near that.

If you got one that can win 90% your crazy for not putting it in these $6500 entry fee hunts. You could make a couple hundred thousand a year just compitition coonhunting.

I had 2 at the same time....both 3 mths apart in age, one English (male)the other walker(female)
One is dead... the other past her competition years..
They both won their share of $ when UKC started haveing these $ hunts....

I'm in the process to training another one (Xbred) this time .
Off those 2 dogs.....I shall see if it makes the cut !

If you only enter one hunt a year and you accidentally win it that’s a 100% ain’t it ?

Tar

Even the elite best of the best that are pushed hard and not just a couple hunts a year don't hit 75% mark.

The fact is a competition hunt is a timed event that many factors come into play, especially in these hour crap shoots. My thought was always bring a dog that was ready to compete and one that always gives me a chance to win when that final second ticks off the clock.

My personal best was this past July and August I won 15 of 17 casts with my Main Street Blue dog. Almost all of them he won by more then 1 full coon.

I'd say the dogs that win a high % of their casts seem to create their own luck.

That's 88% not bad ....congrats .
But luck has little to do with preparation....
Theirs social coon Hunter.. then theirs competition hunters who prepare to win not socialize.

if you got a dog and a handler that can consistently win 50%, you're pretty competitive. Most good competition hounds are a little quirky, they win in runs or bursts , but that may just be the ones Ive had.

Isn't it weird how they will win a bunch one month and can't win one the next month. Or win 6 or 8 in a row and then lose 5 or 6. It is very hard to get a dog that wins consistanly. I have never understood that.

Richard I'm with you on this.

Anyone know which dog has won the most cast in a row? If so how many?

Posted by COONDOG on 12-23-2019 12:11 AM:

I had a female win 19 in a row and never got a win towards grand.

Accurate

A dog that shows you 15 plus out of 20 pleasure hunting is a little different than a dog that can tree 15 out of 20 in competition hunts just like Rick st.clair said 75 percentage is really good and competes on the national level in any registry

Posted by N Williams on 12-23-2019 04:00 AM:

What’s winning

Money in the bank just won 12 in a row and won about 60k doing it in a months time. There is a difference in winning a high % at the local level and at the nation level. I was on my 14 game started at the collegiate level before I ever lost a game as a picture. I wasn’t even drafted. Wasn’t a elite player not even world class. I’d say 70-75% at local level for two years of solid hunting would be good. 50% on a national level good. I ran the local level around here hard for a month one time and never saw a dog I drew tree a coon.
