boondock
What are some characteristics of boondock pups. At what age do they start.
As with most hunting dogs it just depends on how fast they mature and how much they are hunted, there's always gonna be culls, some that start later and some that may start early, I know this not a lot of help with your question but it's a fact
I have not hunted with pups out of him, but I have hunted with him.. He is a top level dog owned by a good man.
I have a male out of boondock, he has definately been a slow starter. This fall will be his second squirrel season, we'll know then if he stays or goes. Just remember a dog gets half it's genes from it dam and not all crosses work out.
Mazarin Creek
The same goes for me to with my Cur out of him, it's her second season to and your totally right some dogs just don't reproduce no matter what u breed them to .
There is a reason so many ppl hunt streak bred dogs

I'm not totally sure but I think Boone Dock has some Streak blood in him on his Momma's side ?
Not that they like talking about lol. But one shot four gen back is not near enough. I have started quite a few streak dogs in the last few years. Have only had one that wasn't treeing by a year old.

For me its a matter of finding pups you can work with. Had dozens of streak bred pups here . there will be no more . i give them away or sell them and they take right off treeing. Dont know what boones out of but ive heard he was nice.

Boone is a great dog but i never hear or read much about his offspring. I have seen where the male littermate to my dog didn't do as well on squirrel as he has on coon. I'm not a coon hunter so i'm giving mine another shot this season on squirrels, he'll either make it or have a new zip code.
Thinking i heard hes a coon dog

That's right, Boone is out of Tree Knockin Mike X Wiggles, I know a guy in Mississippi that kept and hunted him for 6 months, said he was a dandy on both coons or squirrels, I know he's won a lot of state hunts all over and 2 or 3 world hunts, that can't always been luck so he's has to be a pretty good Cur
Oh I'm certain he is a very good dog, 3x Wld Ch,but that means absolutely zilch when you hit the stud pen.
Winning = Reproducing not hardly

I agree 100% with your statement "Winning=Reproducing not hardly". What happened to breeding for the betterment of the breed. Paying a stud fee to breed to the latest and greatest dog doesn't gurantee you anything but a litter of four legged mammals. And yes, Boone Dock is a great dog!
i have young dog out of boonedock and bucks Dixie chrome by far best young dog I have ever owned he is a year and half old and has won every cast he has been in at 10 months old he placed 4th in the texas state hunt he is a hard hunting dog will go as deep as needed and a hard tree dog another boonedock dog won the coon hunt at the umca autism hunt last night I know of several squirrel champions out of him he produces good dogs
Kyle Baker
With all that being said, I truly believe if the pups are placed in the hands of dedicated hunters and given a fighting chance they will make a good dog, but on the same hand not all crosses work no matter what their out of or how many titles they have, Time tells the tale and a lot of boot leather !
I really think Boone is a good reproducer and if his pups are hunted and given a good chance they'll make good dogs !
I kept and hunted Boone around 6 months a couple years ago... I tried my best to hunt him down on several occasions... Never did. He will go until YOU get tired of unsapping him... He is as solid a dog as there is day and night... Big motor, big mouth and tons of heart... He don't quit. I bred him to my Chrome female and the first litter produced several early starting pups that have made super nice dogs day and night... I made the cross again the next year with the same results... I did not make a third cross because my Male dog had proven himself to me that he had the tools and traits I wanted so I made a cross with him instead of Boone. If u want a stud dog that has everything "most" want in a dog, Boone is that dog, IMO.

I got a male out of Boon, started treeing in the yard at 5 months old. He's a pretty decent squirrel treer, he'd be a lot better if I hunted when the leafs were thick. He's never cared for coon. I think he's pushing three now.
Got to keep a no bark collar on him. He can spot a squirrel a 100 yards across the yard.
Like Dorton said when I went with him he was sure enough a great dog coon or squirrel. Some pups started early out of him but again the female has a good deal to do with it and the cross has to be right.
