How can u crown a champion???

How dog u consider a hound the winner of a big hunt on high score alone? If one cast gets guided to a high population of coons (feeder buckets maybe) and another goes to where the dog has to hunt out a mile to grub up a track and ends up winning its cast with let's say two coons before hunt time ends and the feeder cast racks up 1000 or more plus, then how do u consider one to be more worthy of the crown then the other?? Why not in the big hunts keep letting the cast winners go out till u have a finale 4?? What's y'all's thoughts seems right to me?

Jamie you hit the nail dead center and drove it though the board.
This is why I do not drive anywhere from 8 to 15 hours anymore to hunt in these hunts. Seams like my cast draw always drops me in the Walmart parking lot. You will never beat the cast that is going to 12 feeder buckets. But if the cast winners keep advancing I will get to compete against them at one point in the final four where it is the same playing field. Now we have a winner.

The idea is great. However it is impossible to do at bigger hunts. Long hours, judges needed, guides needed, man power at UKC a MOH willing to stay up all night for a couple nights straight.

Take the big hunts for what they are. Luck of the draw

No disrespect intended, but I was thinking just the opposite Hoosier Man. That it might be doable at the bigger hunts and not the local. Being the bigger hunts are set the same time every year with maybe oppertunity to be some what ready for this. I can imagine the hard work and everything that goes into putting on a big hunt and appreciate and respect all the ones that make them happen, but wouldn't it be cool to see something like this happen one day. JMO
Ps. I know it probably won't.

Autumn Oaks is about the only hunt that takes more then 4 highest plus point cast winners to advance to the next night. And that's only in the Grand Nites. There are just to many dogs at the bigger hunts even in pkc at all the added purse hunts only the top 4 will gety a chance at it all even if there's 30 casts. Winning your cast at a big hunt is an accomplishmant but you pretty much know you will need well over 1000 plus to win a big hunt or a breed day hunt. It's just the way it is. A lot of casts will get down to 1 or 2 dogs or someone will have lots of coon etc...

Absolutely! couldnt agree more that LUCK plays a big factor

Lets put things into perspective...

Saturday night at the 2014 English Days this year, bad luck got me pretty bad. Had to drive to the satelite club 1.5 hours east of bluffton, indiana. the whole time we hunted that cast, it down poured and i mean POURED!!!! You couldnt even look up without getting a face full of rain. No chance of spotting a set of eyes what so ever. kinda wish i woulda just scratched and saved the long drive just to hunt in a down pour. LOL

After coming back to bluffton, indiana to sleep at our campsite, Walked into the main building where they serve breakfast, and everyone looked at us like we had three eyes. Everyone that hunted local was dry as a bone talking about how they just brought in a 1000+ scorecard on a perfect hunting night before that rain moved in, and im soaked in places water shouldnt be.

Kinda wish i knew which direction Asa Briggs went from the satelite club that night with that 1800+ score, cause we defiantly went the wrong way. hahaha

I would love to see it happen, taking cast winners is the only way to determine the real champion.

For the one's that say it cant happen, here's an idea:

256 Dogs - 64 cast hunt Thursday night
64 Dogs - 16 cast hunt Friday night
16 Dogs - 4 cast hunt Saturday night
4 Dogs - 1 Final Four cast hunt Saturday night

Most will say I have to travel too far and may only get to hunt one night, maybe true, so why not have slam events on friday and saturday night along with the Champion Hunt.

How do you determine what 256 dogs get to enter hunt. Have hunt offs during the course of the year.

After first year, the first 64 dogs that won there cast get an early entry deadline before other dogs have the chance to enter.

Just thoughts, but I'm sure there's away, YES there will be more work involved, but for serious competition hunters it will be worth it.

I guess a format like the Truck Tickets in the other KC is what I'm thinking about.

In $kc at the super stakes u hunt off cast winners each night! I think If u when the super stake u won like 5-6 cast!! Almost all of there big hunts hunt off! An even the smaller hunts the cast winners 4 highest have the choice to hunt off! Just saying not arguing ether way!

No they dont lol good goodness. The ones that are win your cast and advance are ALL WEEK hunts. Monday through Thursday. I don't know of anyone that would hunt all week for a big hunt other then the world hunt.

I'm not knocking Ukc or trying to compare -kc's and if only a grand night can be crowned king or queen of any big hunt then why not let those cast winners keep going out whatever. If u keep hunting down to the last 4 cast winners then that eliminates a lot of ( well that's just luck of the draw)! I'm sure the champions of past big hunts are awesome hard hunting coon treers and well deserving of their crown, but what about the other cast winners that might not have had the oppertunity to run up a big score? I just think it would be great to see it come down to the finale 4! Jmo.
There will probably be some who will try to win a cast anyway they can because they won't be worried about having a big score just a cast win who knows there can be a good and a bad side to any of it.

Not to change what you all have been talking about as far as format of hunt to get true king or queen of hunt but looking back at the original post I have always seen a problem with feeder buckets in hunts and that being said not much a person can do about it it is what it is now I don't agree with the use of feeder buckets because 1 it's not an even playing field and 2 if you single register any hound in any bloodline you can not use a feeder bucket hound most be free casted in area with know feeders also if you HTX title a hound feeder buckets are not allowed and in both these seneros it has been strictly I forced on me no problem with them making sure no feeder buckets are use but if you are going to do one thing for the 2 above to get a title on the hound and also to single register a good hound than why would you allow it when it comes to that all important NITECH OR GRNITECH TITTLE, good topic and was good reading just my opinion, but heck like said above nothing but a game

Don't get me started on the professional coon hunters out there. That's a whole other topic. If a kennel club takes away the average working man there will not be hunts or kennel clubs left for anyone. Take the big hunts for what they are. Bring a good dog and hope you draw good guides and good sportsman.

You don't see those scores normally because you have usually 3 or 4 coon dogs that look to get to themselves. It's rare you get to move more then one time becaue your constantly re casting for 25 and that is impossible to rack up a big score. In ukc your going in for next available plus the extra 25 on tree and guys realize the need to move each time it is possible.

Look at what it takes every year to get in the final 4 at the spring classic. Don't tell me those scores don't exist in the other kennel club. Most times they happen because 2 or more dogs get down and they all withdraw.

There is motivation for them going. And it sure ain't for a yellow slip of paper, trophy, or a sack a dog feed. If you do win it sure is worth your time.

You hunt all week to see who has the best dog. Not to see who racked up a big score. Beat the dogs you draw system is as fair as it gets.

UKC makes the rules. Highest scores win. Plain and simple luck of the draw. The name of the game is tree as many coon as possible to get a good score. I have been on both sides of the fence and just have to take the good with the bad sometimes when you take the luck of the draw.
