The only dog I ever had do that was an English Setter. Of course he wasn't treeing, he pointed the first bird then retrieved it. Blinked the second bird and we found him in the dog box. For whatever reason he went gunshy. That quick and it was all over but the cryin'. That dog never hunted again.

Coyotes

Posted by yadkinhoundsman on 05-21-2014 03:20 AM:

Well there's no hot wire in the area and I didn't shoot the only thing is maybe a coyote could of had a den of pups on the creek she was by and the yote got on her

Posted by joey on 05-21-2014 03:51 AM:

Have you been working on her for junk? I had one that I was breaking off of deer. When I would shock her she would sit down and I would have to go get her. I knew I had her broke when some other dogs ran a deer and I had to get her because she was sitting down where the struck it at.

So she might have just realized what she was doing wasn't right and corrected herself?

No I've never had a problem with trash I've tried cuttimg her on deer opossum skunks and she won't even run them for a little bit

Posted by msinc on 05-21-2014 01:49 PM:

How about wasp or hornets??? She could have got into a bunch of them??? Rattle snake or copperhead??? Even if she didn't get bit a lot of dogs will clear out of a snake area.
You can believe something did it...she didn't just all of a sudden fall in love with the dog box for no reason.

Posted by yadkinhoundsman on 05-21-2014 03:21 PM:

No snakes in northwest iowa I suppose a wasp or hornet might of got her but she ran a half mile to get to the truck

Posted by critter on 05-21-2014 05:30 PM:

wolf

There is some pretty rugged land where your located. To scare her that bad i believe it could have been a wolf.

Alright boys I got another twist to this story took her there again tonight she struck in once went in 150 turned around sprinted to me and sat between my legs and stared at the trees intently ears perked and all I tried giving her a light kick she wouldn't budge now what would you fellas do I took her to another spot went in and got treed like nothing I was thinking bring about four hounds out there and see what happens because clearly it has to be something big cuz she was probably 500 yards away from the last incident and she got spooked again

DO YOU HEAR ANYTHING IN THE DIRECTION SHE COMES BACK FROM

BITCH COYOTE WITH PUPS, BUT YOU'D HEAR HER YAPPIN. <v>

No completely quite not say it never happened but I never heard it I'm gonna take the fox pro out there and see if something comes in this just irritates ITS MY FAVORITE COON HUNTING SPOT.... LOL

Posted by Doug A on 05-22-2014 03:39 PM:

Go out there during the day and scout it out looking for sign, tracks or any clues. You're right that there has to be something in that spot. I sure wouldn't take her there again. Wouldn't want behaviors to turn into habits. Good luck!
