weird situation need help
I have a 13 month old pup. He has been treeing coon split treeing and accurate since about 10 months old. I never gave him a coon untill the last time he treed. Well ever since I gave him a coon he acts like he wants to run the track locate and go find another track to run. Tonight my female treed a double quick my pup struck the track first but while she was treeing he was just milling around getting up on his hind legs and locating like he was winding the coon. I dont get it seems like since I gave him a coon he has gone backwards.
i'd say its a pup thing, sometimes they go backwards before forwards again ,,, just what i've read,, i''m no expert but going through the same thing myself
It's irratating. 2 months ago I thought he was on his way to being real nice. Now I'm wondering lol.

did he get bit up at all when you shot the coon out??
a lot of times laying him up for a week or so may help
No not at all. That coon was dead when it hit the ground.

NEXT TIME
Next time old dog gets one treed get a handle on the young dog and tie him close but not so close he can get ahold of the coon, give the old dog the coon and dont let the young dog touch it at all make him watch, do that a couple times he will come around.
Good Luck!!!!!

First thing I would do is think about hunting him by himself. Sounds like he is doing good and ready for some solo hunting and confidence building.

Re: MR LEE
I can catch the dog he don't run from me. Sometimes he is at the tree with the old dog sometimes he isn't

IF HE CANT CATCH HIM, I WOULD SPEND A FEW MINUTES IN THE YARD AND HE WILL COME. A HANDLE IS THE FIRST THING TO HAVE ON A DOG AND SHOULD BE AN EASY FIRST STEP. YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW, IF YOU CANT GET A HANDLE ON ONE THEN MAYBE YOU NEED TO HIRE A TRAINER
stop hunting it with the old dog. then you have a better idea of whats going on.

I just recently started hunting him with the old dog. When he started treeing coon started hunting him by himself. I put him with the old dog to see if he was running coon. He does samething weather with a dog or not since I shot that coon to him

I hate to be negative but a four mile track ain't no coon I hunt a lot in thin coon sorry but there's no way. On another note if cubs are still running together in your area that could be a problem with him wanting to go on. Tie him back on a couple that will get him back to sticking tight
Okay. I was hunting him by himself and he was treeing coons. I shot one coon to him and all the sudden he wants to just trail locate and go on and not stay treed. So I put him with the old dog to try to gauge what my pup was doing. If he was even running a coon etc.
