Vicky there is a lot of states with minimal or no entries. That is because over here in the northeast we have NO WQE. I think the closest one is a 6 hour drive. So you won't see any dogs from Maryland, New York, Delaware, and very few or any from eastern PA. It is very sad that UKC has limited there focus on WV and Ohio.

Posted by djvgny on 09-27-2011 12:40 AM:

Just wondering if PA, GA, and OK will be losing there WQE next year like we did due to low numbers at the World Hunt.

Posted by Jack Eddy on 09-27-2011 12:50 AM:

wqe

I see that Pa.,Ok.Ga, have one dog each going to the World hunt. That is that very reason that we lost our WQE at the Towanda BC,and also Unidilla in NYState lost theirs. I wonder will these clubs lose theirs. Probably not because they don't have some phony after them as we did us. I am very disappointed in the brass at UKC. This BS. Jack Eddy(Pres. of the Towanda BC)

lookin at the list its evident the economy is killing trials that ppl have to drive over 4-5 hrs to. makes me think maybe the zones wasnt such a bad idea

Dont know bout the rest but dog from ok was in mo all year. Reg owner lives in ok . Eastern tennesee is 800 plus miles from mo thats a real pain . Itll end up 1000 bucks just to hunt . Thats the only reason theirs not a bunch from mo just tooooo far . Will be an interesting trip look fwd to good running and seeing great dogs .

Hey Chad - Right there with you on that thousand dollar bill and 800 miles. If your like me I am sure you will be bringing back some new blood for the kennel to stimulate the economy.lol Have a safe trip and we will see you there. Anthony

Posted by VICKY B on 09-27-2011 12:52 PM:

Economy and terrain. Lots of beaglers are a little older and like myself have some health issues thats why they went from coon dogs to beagles. Mountains dont make it easy to run for lines and handle dogs, people can't compete in those cases.
The entries show it.
I am not bashing any clubs, its just a fact. I understand wanting to move it around but you exclude so many people who normally supoort these big hunts.
I think its a shame The World Hunt, which should be one of the biggest hunts we hold has dwindled to this size, many other hunts now have larger entries. I wonder how many owners are entered, in other words how many people have more than one dog entered?
I attended the coon hound world last week, it was over flowing with people, spectators and dogs.. The economy is bad for them to.. Mayb we should take a look why they are so supported whats different and use those ideas to strengthen our beagle program
Just some ideas to think about, it seems like our beagle hunts and select sire programs are failing. The ARHA Grand Nationals are expecting 300 dogs this weekend and its not a world hunt. Lets figure out why and use it...

if you want to go bad enough people will find a way to pay for it. as far as moving it around, there are several people in the south that travel north for all the bigger hunts and regular hunts also. as far as getting around i have had two back surgerys and been out of work for a week now for my hip but all you have to do is see woody crowder going to these hunts and getting around with braces on his knees and walking with a cane and you relize you are blessed to be able to go hunt. yes there are mountains here but there is easy walking and the guys dont try to make it hard on anyone. i personally have spent 100 dollars in deisel fuel this week having paths bushhogged so you can score rabbits and i doubt you will have to walk over a hundred yards on my cast and run steady. the coonhunts are larger because of the money you can sell a coon hound for compared to a beagle. thanks for everyone that is supporting the hunt this year.

double amen.

it all comes down to convenience... and this hunt isn't convenient enough for folks to travel to - so they take the opportunity to lobby for a different venue that is more convenient for them.
distance certainly didn't keep a LOAD of folks from WV going to the World Hunt in 2009 (in Largrange, IN - an 8 hour trip).

as far as folks losing WQE's because of the winners not going to the world - it seems pretty valid to me. why have a WQE in a location if folks aren't going to participate in the world after winning?

i can see where u are coming from, but I dont think that the terrain turned a hundred qualified dogs owners away from the world hunt. I guess 1 solution is all NON hunting judges every round then u wouldnt have to run around. You would have to implement the zones again in order to get the world hunt itself under a hundred entires to find enough judges. UKC would have to pay the judges and you would prob need it doen in series just becasue prob not gona have 25 judges

U make a great point about the ARHA hunts ,huge numbers, of course that is a little decieving because one person may have entered 10 dogs BUT there is no doubt the numbers are impressive despite that.

Id like to see MO get world hunt next year, those ppl have faithfully supported UKC for 20 years and they have huge draws and tons of bunnies.

the reason the ARHA numbers are so high is because all you have to do to qualify for their world hunt it to be a cast winner sometime thoughout the year... they don't do WQE's... win a cast, and you are in - simple as that. if the UKC "opened it up" like the ARHA, there would be more entries.

I think the WQE system eliminates a lot of the dogs that just ruin casts (we've all been out with at least one of these types of dogs) - I'd never want to see the UKC "open it up" - since that would be a direct result.

Right on Mitch!

The clubs are turning out big numbers at the local hunts with huge scores, surley the big shots at UKC are taking notice right? I seen casts come in with a 1000+ pts in a August hunt this year! Need I say more
