Well I've got a good friend actually hes probaly the only guy I know that I can count on no matter what He mentioned he would like to be in on a hog hunt with hounds and I would too,He helped me train my coon dog this fall and he was a great and he taught me and my dog alot so i would like to find someone that would be willing to take us he was talking about booking a hunt with someone and I would also go that way too if we have too. But i use these message boards alot and its a great group of people so I thought I would ask around here first if someone could help me make this happen, any help would be very appreicated , please remember I'm asking for myself but more for him, there is one other thing he is going though some personal problems and maybe give him something to look forward too,

Check up north

Many many years using dogs on hogs. No hounds though. There are several pay to play ranches in Michigan.

Posted by JefferyAntes on 12-27-2008 02:40 AM:

There is many pay and play but we would really like to be part of a hound chase on one, dont get me wrong we would pay but weve both got a sweet spot for hounds, it doesnt have to be fancy and maybe just a chance to get away for a couple of days and heck maybe make some new friends, and theres one thing you open a door for us and we would be glad to maybe open a door for somebody here in Mich, we dont have wild hogs but we have lots of deer, turkeys, coon, and small game,on private land.

Well, we use hounds here in the mtns of SC and NC. We don't use catch dogs as most of our races are too long for catch dogs to keep up.

My I ask a question here?
I have hunted hog's off and on for 15 yrs with hounds. Around here there is a core group that hunts, we all hunt together becouse we trust one another.
Example a couple of yrs ago a young guy begged people to let him go. Finally we voted to give him a try. We 1st hog was his last, he froze when the boar broke from the bay dogs and before the catch dog could get a hold.
Hog hunting with hounds is not for the faint at heart , I trust each and everyone of the guys I hunt with for they know I have their backs and they have mine. It takes lots of guts to swing a knife into a charging hog.
Just my experience hunting hogs with hounds

I didn't read your question in there , It basically sounded like No chance in __ __ __ __ that you would ever let someone in your tight nit group with you because you have had a bad experience. witch I don't blame you, I don't know if you hunt coon or deer or turkeys but why don 't you plan a couple days Next year and I be glad to take you out I wouldn't expect anything in return, if yiu don't commet or get ahold of me thats fine also, but thanks for you time to read my post.(Hardwoodrunner)

Well Jeff, I should have said comment but any way. What I was meaning was you have to show the guys that you are really wanting to be apart of the group. I figure you are sincere but all the guys in the group have to trust you, having a charging boar coming at you will make your fear button come on.
I trust the hounds to keep the hog under control when I stick it. We do loose hounds each year or have to put down a couple that are slow on the trigger.

I hunt coon, hog, deer, have been on couple of bear hunts, bobcat hunt. Some of the best hog hunting I have experienced is in Texas, where I go 2-3 times a year to my good friends.

Just my 2 cents worth

Posted by MRC on 01-05-2009 03:50 AM:

The group that I hunt with has no problem taking new guys. After all, we were all new guys at one point in time. That being said, the host of the guests is responsible for staying with the new guy and making sure he stays out of trouble......

I wouldn't have to be in on the kill, maybe sometime but just to be part of the hunt, I'm not all about the kill, the Hunt or the chase is the best part.

Oklahoma Hogs

Jeff, I and my wife hog hunt and if you want to go come on down. Just take a trip to South Castle Road and ask the ole man about hog hunting with me last year. I dont use hounds it makes the run to long for me. For me its all about the bay and catch. I have a few cursXcats that bay and catch. I won't hold your hand on a hog hunt your on your own with me. IF you got the nads to roll a boar up on it back and put the rope on it lets go. Bring you own knife and if you get in trouble you will have to fight your own way out of it. No show dogs in the pen.

I just read this post.

There is a lot of bull in here.

""" Well, we use hounds here in the mtns of SC and NC. We don't use catch dogs as most of our races are too long for catch dogs to keep up."""

Who sticks a charging boar?

Is that like a spanish bull fighter killing the bull? Is there proper attire to wear as well.

Posted by MRC on 02-24-2009 01:39 PM:

Who said anything about sticking them? We shoot them. If you don't believe me about that then just let me know and I'll be more than happy to send you some pics and videos.

From a post above.

MRC so what type of hog dogs do you own. I am from South Carolina and have hunted many parts of the state. I have hunted the savannah, the conagree, the wateree and santee rivers.

Most guys tie hogs.

Posted by MRC on 02-28-2009 01:53 AM:

I only own right now. I have a walker female that does a pretty good job. One buddy has a walker female and a mixed up AB/bluetick. Another buddy uses a 3/4 treeing walker 1/4 running walker cross along side a 1/2 cur/walker. We mostly hunt up in the mountains on game lands. You can't tie them up and carry 'em out alive on the games lands. The local wardens frown upon that heavily.... LOL

We have hogs here to but...

I have never been on a hog hunt with dogs. Why do y'all tie them up and take them out? They are considered I guess vermin in Al.

Posted by scdogman on 03-09-2009 09:53 PM:

Because some might pay .50 cent a pound alive. Nothing for a dead hog.
