Help- Barking dog!!

I have recently aquired a 12 month old Treeing Walker female who barks constantly. I've had to use a shocking collar on her to just get some sleep. I'm afraid that if I use the e-collar for barking in the kennel she won't bark while hunting. I need advise quickly. Thanks for all sensible replys. lol

Will not effect her. She is kenneled, not in the woods hunting. She will stop when she gets tired of being zapped.

the tritronics bark collar is the best $100 you will spend in regards to keeping a dog from barking. others only work on some dogs, go with the tri tronics-will have no problems in the woods either.

use the "whoop that @$$ method"!! i keep a plastic bat that works wonders on a barking dog. it usually only take one or two times with the bat and they get the picture. i can walk outside and holler at my dogs and they go in the dog house!! if they keep barking i just pick the bat up and slap it against the side of the house and they go in the dog house and don't bark anymore LOL!!

yup, yup and yup... even though a bark collar seems like a great idea... you are only training that dog to not bark when the collar is on... so if you constantly want to walk out to the kennel to put it on or take it off and charge batteries... go for the bark collar.

if you want to spend a couple of weeks breaking the dog to stop when its kenneled, get the ball bat out or use a hose and squirt her while yelling at her to stop... pretty soon she will get the idea that yelling while she is barking means she is gonna get slapped with the bat or hose... saving your walk from the house to the kennel to put a collar on...

lol, and you think the neighbors are going to put up with 2 weeks of barking? you put the collar on when you are not there and take it off when you are, how hard is that?

and just how does it save the walk from the house when you have to repeadily go out there and beat the dog?

my dogs DON'T bark in the pen unless i'm outside feeding them or my chickens and all i use is my little blue plastic ball bat to break them from kennel barking.

the man that had my Hanna dog before i got her left a bark collar on her 24-7 and when you took it off she still barked. when i got her i tore her tail end up for barking and she no longer barks in the kennel.

there are a lot of methods to break dogs from barking in the kennel and to say one works better than another i can't because each dog is different.

Just curious, have you hunted the dog much? She a good dog?

you have contradicted yourself, your first post says you can just go out the door and yell at them or slap the bat against the house and they will shut up, and now you say they only bark when you are already outside feeding them or the chickens? what gives?

then you also say a critter could be in the yard and that causes them to bark? what happens if a critter gets in the yard when you are not there, you think the nieghbors are just going to be ok with that?

there are numerous ways like you said, in this situation it sounds like he needs immediate and total stopping of the barking, in that case the bark collar is the best bet in my opinion.

I use the TriTronics bark collar. My old dog is about half senile, only gets hunted when my bitch is in heat and he will bark non-stop without the bark collar. It stays on 24/7. I change batteries twice a year. Problem solved.

I've used both methods, but you also have to consider how hard headed the dog is that you are dealing with. What I do with a no bark is use a medium to low setting and take it off the next day. They will test you and just put it back on. After 2-3 days to a week you will start to see an improvement. A smart dog will figure it out real quick. The most effective is to hunt the dog down and keep a no bark on her when she starts back to barking. I have had a few that were just too hi-strung and had to be hunted alot, but still continued to bark alot. It was not breed related either because I have had some out of three different breeds that barked alot. The e-collar is good with voice commands or warning tone, but is useless if they bark while you are gone and no one is home to mash the button. A water hose works good, with or without water, but some dogs don't take whippings well and that starts another set of problems.

i CAN go outside and yell at them and they will stop if they do decide to bark. my dogs bark at ME when i'm outside with a feed bucket in my hand walking around my kennels. they stop immediately when i go back towards the house. critter in yard when i'm not there well i guess they are going to bark at it LMAO!!! I don't have any neighbors that live close enough to worry about.

critter in yard ex: my dogs started barking the other night and i went to the door to yell at them...opened up my door and a big ole fat COON was sitting on my carport eating my chicked corn....

I've had her about a week. I hunted her a couple of hours a night until this rain set in.

I understand she has to get used to me and her surroundings, but it's clear to me from the way she barks, that we have a problem.

I just talked to the fella that owned her and I found out she was raised in a pen. I have her on a chain, so this evening I'll put her in a pen ( I'll switch her with another dog). Perhaps this will resolve some of her barking problems.

Smokey 7, She works a good track pretty well, but needs more experience on the 'tuffer tracks. She's treed the easier coon but is lacking a little when the dogs take a colder track into the tree. I'd say she is doing well for her age and experience.

For 1 my neighbors don't care because most of them have coon dogs too, BUT... I'm offering... Come to my house and stay for a week and sit in the kitchen and watch and LISTEN. Count how many times my dogs come out and bark whether I'm home or not. I bet at the end of the week you will end up with less than 5 times. They are trained well and listen well. I put my time in, I never spent a dime on a dang bark collar and the method I use works!

You can't even say that it's the type of dogs either, because I had Forest on here's dog for a few months... his Hank dog (4 years old) is a BARKER... he came with the bark collar when he was dropped off. I can count on my fingers how many times he had that collar on while in the kennel at my house and I NEVER have EVER gotten any kind of complaints from neighbors!

bark collar in the warm months and a water hose in the cold months. if you take the water hose and squirt the dog and tell it to shut up it might take a couple of times but they will get tired of being wet and cold. shoot the water right on his muzzle to start with.

you are both on the same page because niether of you have nieghbors that care if the dog barks or not. big difference. if my dogs bark 5 times in a week ive got big problems, the way this fella is asking for immediate help, i was assuming he is in similar situation, might be wrong.

i'm not trying to be an @$$hole or anything don't get me wrong. a bark collar works...BUT my dogs still barked when i tried them, and it made sores on my dogs neck from wearing it so long. BUT an @$$ whooping cured their barking PERIOD. Yes it takes time to break them from it, but with my dogs a tail whooping works better.

Each dog is different and you have to find what works best for your dog.

I have never owned a dog with a barking problem that an @$$ whooping didn't fix, but it is not an overnight done deal. Doesn't matter if it's a Pit Bull, a Boston Terrier, a German Shepard, a B&T, a TW, a Redbone, a English dog, a Blue Heeler, a Husky, a Great Dane, or a Poodle a good @$$ whooping will break them from barking, but don't expect results in 1 day.

There is nothing I can't take like a barking dog. If I can't stop that sucker from barking in a week it is not going to be there one way or the other. I don't want a dog that after persuasion can't figure out to quit barking. That is beyond my point of acceptable.

and im not trying to be argumentative, just think if you have a barking dog and you need it stopped right now, a tri tronics bark collar is the best bet. you are absolutely right SOME bark collars dont work on some dogs, but i would be willing to bet a tri tronics will work on the most hard headed of dogs. never had any sores either.

i think enough has been said for the fella to make his mind up, please let us know how it turns out.
