-- IF switched from Walker to Bluetick witch line? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928454304)

IF switched from Walker to Bluetick witch line?

I started out with BlueTicks over 30 years ago and had one very good one out of about 5, started hunting Walkers about 25 years ago and had I would say three real good hounds out of about 20, I'm not talking about hounds that would just go out and tree a coon, I'm talking about Great hounds.
my question is, if I were to try another BlueTick what is the most reproducing line out there?
To me , this is only my opinion now, so don't anyone get mad but it sorta looks like people are looking more into making paper dog's instead of coon dogs these day's just to make a few bucks, I am looking for my best chance of getting a pup that will make a top hound, I'm to old to mess around.
Thank you!

Bluticks

I've had this conversation with my buddies that hunt walkers. They'll try one blue and it want work out so they give up and go through ten walkers to try to find what they like. I ask what if you'd tried 10 blue dogs would you have found one you like? Maybe , maybe not. My theory is get one off coondogs top and bottom . Not just a stud . Better your chances. Your a hunter you already know this . Good luck .

I would get a je bred dog. Going to have a liter coming off of my junior dog next month he is jet and hammer bred and the female is hammer and Smokey river bred. Ed Meade and Terry tucker in Mi. and CW in GA have these dogs. You can look them up on this board. Ed has this line of dogs to be proven coondogs. Just my opinion, and I like thisline the pups start early.

Well I have turned a diehard Walker man for I'd say 20years or more over to bluedogs. And that was by him hunting with my male they is Smokey River and my female that is Uchtman. Now all he has is bluedogs

That depends.

What main traits are you looking for?

A lot of the Bocephus bred dogs will probably operate like what you may be used to.

I've hunted dogs out of some of the best bloodline that was good reproduce stud and dam on top and bottom never won any of the large hunts and really don't care if I win over all at all but I will have a dog that can compeat anywhere. But I had a older coon hunter tell me don't hunt a tree dog if u hunt a area of woods where he needs to trail a coon and don't hunt one that loves to trail if he needs to be treeing. Train one that fits the hunting area u hunt most. And that can come in any bloodline.

I cant really say I "switched" because I still have and very much like walkers...but I do have two blueticks and like them as much. Piazon, Echo, Pounder, Jet, Smiley...they are all there. Mine are good natural track and tree dogs. I like a loud dog and mine have that, but it seems like many blueticks have a weak voice. Don't really know which ones to avoid for that.

Blues

I like what you went with. The main reason i think on which blue dawg is chosen is by which region of the country your from, and the money it takes for most people to travel out of the region to buy a certain line. The line that is dominate in your line is Rambo and has a huge population around Louisiana, Arkansas, and Texas. Most of Jet dogs are from up north, with alot of credit for them making it down south going to Mr CW Eldredge and Mr Ed Mead. They have hunted together for years and when the snow is on the ground Ed travels down to CW's to hunt in Georgia. Utchman from the Midwest, and many more. Bluetick men are more concerned about quality over quantity therefore have fewer litters and for a better lack of a word, tend to be clanish. I love bluedawgs and will have them for the rest of my coonhunting years.

This is true...a lot of people don't like to travel and you really don't hear much about flying dogs all over like you used to. If you really want a certain line you can usually find a puppy closer than where they originated, but not always. My last pup came from Illinois.
If there is a dog or puppy out there that I have to own I will get him. Funny thing is...some of the best ones were close by and I have been known to travel many a mile to get one not worth chicken squirt.

Posted by Outback1 on 07-06-2016 01:56 PM:

To me it appears that the Bluetick breeders/hunters are like the walker hunters/breeders 25 years ago, by that I mean back then breeders bred for quality not quantity.
Now you look at the Walkers, they have been bred for treeing ability more than tracking ability they seem to be looking to get treed, I am not saying all Walkers are like that and I still like some Walkers, as a matter of fact I just sold a nice female that is very nice. but I think if hounds are bred to bring out strengths in tracking as well as treeing you get the best of both worlds, and have more of a complete hound that you enjoy hunting.
I look at for instance Casey Bigalow's hounds, it is oblivious his hounds are constant coon dogs that came from constant coon dogs, I know there are several more breeders out there that are doing the same as Casey is also .

Hunting with Grnitech Grch Nolan Creek Prides Maverick HTX 3 and seeing his track speed and ability to come treed anywhere make me love this dog. But what I love more about him is seeing the same or better track speed and treeing ability he puts in his pups. These qualities make a dog hard to beat and they always have a chance. He has what I want, and that's the ability to win anywhere, anytime, against anybody. Flat independent dog that couldn't care if he had 12 hounds treed with him or by himself. And he passes all that down to his pups.

After hunting Walkers for 50 years, I got a female blue tick pup from Gary Uchtman. She just turned 2 years old. I like her. She's very accurate.

I have hunted with good blue dogs bred lots of different ways.

I've hunted with some top Walkers.

But for consistent good mouths, hard hunting, accurate tree dogs, Gary's stock of dogs has suited me better than anything for 20 odd years.

Just statistically, is anyone that is hunting blueticks have something better than you track record wise?
20% of your hounds, according to your post are very good hounds. 3 out of your 20 where great hounds.

I think it is very possible that a higher percentage of certain bloodlines of blueticks are decent hounds that tree coons without a lot of problems. I do not think you will find a higher percentage than 3 out of twenty that are "great" hounds. They wouldn't have their own world hunt if they had the percentages you have personally experienced.

JUST SWITCHING WOULD BE AN IMPROVEMENT..!!!! LOL. NO I HAVE HUNTED WITH A FEW GOOD WAL CURS AND A LOT OF BAD. SAME FOR THE BLUES. MOST OF WHAT HAS BEEN SAID IN THIS THREAD IS TRUE.

MY PERSONAL PREFERENCE IS UCTCHMAN OR SMOKEY RIVER. BUT I HAVE CAMERON FEMALE WITH MORE GRIT THAN ANY I EVER HAD.
