One Dog's Accuracy Numbers
I really stink at finding coons in the trees when the leaves are on. So I look forward to when the leaves fall. I have always enjoyed keeping records on dogs.
Here are the results of the female I am currently hunting. Den trees were not counted, and no more than 1 coon in a tree was counted in a tree. A coon had to be seen to be counted. October 28, 2015 to December 5, 2015. I made 45 drops and 39 coons were seen for a percentage of 87%. I didn't hunt the 1st week of gun deer season. Our coon season was done on January 31, 2016. My total number of drops was 70 and 53 coon were seen for a percentage of 76%.
Actually, I was surprised that the percentage hadn't dropped more than 11%. Hmmm Rain's number are pretty consistent with dogs I have owned in the past. It seems the older I get the less patience I have for den trees, and zero patience for slicks.

Doing good.
I kept complete records on Howler for a year. I counted dens as no coon seen as well as big trees in the summer. For the year she averaged at 74%. That was when she was young, last month she made 36 trees and I looked at 28 with 4 dens and 4 slicks. Her percentages would be higher if there was no such thing as persimmons.

70 drops and 53 coons is good. I think to get a real number you got to count dens. It's not a coon seen. I can believe a 70-75% dog though. I absolutely don't think they get any better than that if you count dens in there.

I typed it incorrectly. Den trees were counted as a coon not seen. I was attempting to say I wasn't giving the dog the benefit of the doubt. Jim, I agree 100% with you. Heck, if I have to catch a dog off a track that counts against them. With the Alpha, I don't have to do that as much as i used to. After the snap is released, I expect to see a coon.
I only hunt hard dogged state land. It isn't unusual to see 3-7 other coon hunters in a single night.
The post wasn't made to brag. It was made to state I find myself expecting more.

I can count on 1 hand how many dens mine has made all winter long this yr. I wouldnt count one as a den cept for he was digging qnawing at the hole trying his best to get in it. Small hole. Second den since about May. He flat out slicked treed thur night also. His 2nd slick since coon came in season in Oct but Ive not kept up with his numbers. What I will do is when he trees. We can lay a $ 1 on the hood. I say he has one. Yall say he dont. 5 tree minimum
Oh and Mr Williams. Thats with what pressure you want to bring and show him.He aint that competitive at all unless its running around chasing other idiots. Hes no comp dog at all. I use to think different. I thought you could take any real coon treeing hound to a hunt and win most. I think different now.

I kept track of my Bluetick female princess one time for a period of time. 18 for 20 . I kept up with a dog someone had for sale one time. He was asking $1,500. He went about 2 for 40. No joke. I took him back after just a few weeks. Full blown armadillo dog. Allways digging in the ground.

The most interesting part to me is I counted big trees in the summer time and dens as a missed coon and her % are basically the same in the winter. That tells me that if they are there most of the time you will find them. Just takes a little more effort.

Can I count this one please?
After a very long layoff I've just started hunting my female again. So far 6 drops and 6 dens. Some of them she sounded pretty desent some not so much. I know my dog well. Tonight second drop she hit a good track went about 200 yards and exploded on a tree. ( her biggest flaw as a comp dog is she is usually very slow to settle on tree ) . I walked in and she was in the edge of a beaver pond on a den tree. There was a wet trail running from bottom of tree going all the way to a hole about 20 feet up that looked like someone drug a mop up the tree. She's very straight and she was positive about it.
With the coonhunting community's approval can I count this one please?
