2 hounds shot dead off the tree in Northwest AR last night

My thoughts and prayers go out to Billy and Dewayne. Their dogs got treed with a coon about 100 yards across the property line where they had permission and a man shot both dead right off the tree. It would be hard to keep a cool head in this situation. I know both hunters and both are good guys.

I saw that on Facebook. Seems like Arkansas is in the headlines a lot over hounds being killed. Condolences to their owners, that sucks.

Billy and Dwayne

sure sorry to hear about the tradgydy to your dogs. I hope and pray this never happens to me, because I don't know what would happen, because I don't have much sense anyway. I have lost several dogs before, but not this type of lost. The guy that did this needs to be taught a good lesson. I could tell you what he needs, but he probably wont get that. I think I would get the animal rights involved in it. Let them do some good for a change. I didn't mean to get so wound up in this, but I know you loved your dogs and this just tears my heart out.

Happened to us during a UKC hunt in Feb. of 2013. Still supposed to go to court, but trial has been delayed like 12 times now. I hope these folks situation turns out better than ours did. So much for keeping a cool head and letting law enforcement handle it...

I hate to hear this. My worst fear is this happening to one of my hounds. The fear is me knowing what I would do to someone if they did this to my hound. My life would be over and so would theirs. My thoughts and Prayers to these guys and hope they can continue to keep cool heads and take this Scum Bag to court. If they gonna teach him a lesson in the Courtroom I can't help but if they teaching him any other kind of lesson I'm ALL IN, just holler.

This guy should absolutely know that he has made the worst mistake of his life. If I had 5 minutes to gather myself I wouldn't shoot a guy over my dog. If. But during the next month and years he would regret it no matter what it took. Leagaly or Illeagaly

I would have a hard time not doing something to the guy if it was my dogs I think this country needs to bring back the rope and a tree and watch the crime slowly drop no more go to jail straight to the tree hope they get justice for there dogs

Sorry to hear that is awful, with that being said, I would lawyer up, people need to be held accountable for there poor decisions. With public sentiment in favor of dogs, lawyer up y'all will win.

I'm going to play devils advocate here. If he has any livestock in the area - cattle, horses, sheep, goats, etc. and his property is fenced and claims the dogs were chasing his livestock they will not collect. It will be the hunters word against his regarding whether the dogs were treed. If it's a rural county with a lot of farmers that could makeup the jury pool that will be another strike against the hunters to overcome. I hate it but that is how it will most likely turn out especially since the hunters were/could be charged with trespassing.

shot

They must get a lawyer ,contact others for advice on how they collected large sums of monies for the same thing, a man in Pennsylvania collected around $18,000 last year for the same thing. His dog had a lighted collar and was in the peoples yard treed, it took a year or 2 to get thru the court system. One thing for sure he must be arrested for cruelty to animals by the local humane society, here it is illegal to shoot any ones dog ,without specific proof of injury ( photos , ect. ), a dog chasing livestock without injury will not cut it here, If they do produce the proof of injury, the humane society can still fine them for cruelty, here that fine is up to $10,000.

X-2 for David's response.

In pa it is illegal to shoot a dog you are right there . It is in the hunting manual. Even if a dog is chasing game and/or livestock. Most people think they can shoot a dog of it is chasing game but that is wrong.
I'm sorry to hear about the loss of these dogs. I hope they can get some justice
Last year my son was walking out of some woods he had permission to hunt in and some homeowner shot at him. Bullet went by so close he heard the whine of it. The homeowner didn't want anyone in those woods that he didn't own. So he shot at my son then called the landowner. When
all was said and done that homeowner ended up wishing he had just gone to bed.

Re: shot

Not, the humane society is not a law agency, Only a lawman can write a fine.
