Your Best "One More Stop" Stories

Let's start a thread about the horror stories that go along with you or your hunting buddy saying.."Let's make one more quick stop....". Most of the time when this is said Murphys Law kicks in and it isn't quick or pleasurable.

When this is said now...I let my hunting buddy dump his dog and keep mine in the box. Just like when we are hunting now, we don't say or use the word..DEER.....they are called "One of those other things". LOL

One more drop...

The last time we said this the dog had been running trash all night....not a coon in the area. We drop on an old tailings road and off he went like a bat out of hell. We listened and listened and he located several times. We figured it was a cat or fox. Then we decided to go to walk in. It ended up being abou three miles of swamp and beaver ponds and thick popple plantings. He had the coon and boy oh boy were we tuckered out after that run. dropped the last one at 10:30 and got home about 3:30 in morning. Dog did great but it wasnt a fun trek.

One more drop...

Is not something that we say ANYMORE!!

We treed 3 single coons one night, all of them wild too. Then decided to make "one more drop" and we ended up spening the night in the woods.

The bad thing about it is I had midterm in one class that morning, and my class started at 8am. We left straight from looking for the dogs to take me to school. I took my midterm alright. I made a 57 on it because I couldnt keep my eyes open long enough to read the questions. It didnt hurt my grade, I still made the Dean's list with a 3.87 GPA!!!

Quincy and Justing had to go back out the next day and look for Spot. They found him about 1pm!

Then there was this other night, we were going to turn a coon lose to the dogs, I asked Quincy how long did he think that it would take. He said about 45 minutes. We turned the coon lose at 8pm. At 7am the next morning we got back to the truck. And I had to be at work at 7am!! Copper and Charlie had came back to us during the night. But my 8 month old pup, Rocky, was no where to be found. Well, Quincy went back to look for Rocky after he took me to work. Well, he fell asleep in the truck while he was listening to see if he could hear him anywhere. I woke him up by calling the cell phone and we were talking and he tells me to "shut up I heard something!!" He says "I'll call you back in a few minutes." About 20 minutes went by and I was just about to call him when I got a phone call. It was Quincy. I could hear Rocky barking. He said "You aint never going to belive what happened." I said "What?" He said. "Rocky has been treed on this coon all night. He's got a circle wore around the bottom of the tree, and it nearly has any bark left lower than 4 feet! I'm going to knock it out to him. By **** it he earned this one all by himself!" He shot the coon out and the rest is history.

You know what I learned from this?

If Quincy says it's only going to take 45 minutes to do anything that has to do with hunting, you're better off to just stay at the truck!!!

Don't have any one more drop stories but since I've got back into hunting the last 2 months. We are always going to make a "quick drop" and have not been home within 3 hours yet. We have the marathon coons. I guess I'll get into shape now.

Dj

Yeah, around here it seems like we got the triathaloners!!

One minute they're running, the next minute they're swimming, and the next minute they must take flight because after all that they sure dissappear quick!!! Either that or our dogs just give up one!

One last drop...cut the dogs loose near the river, first thing they did was swim the river and there's not an access road to them anywhere, man was that water cold.

Are you people crazy? Don't talk about it or you'll jinx us all. LOL. Last winter me and some friends were done for the night and had all our stuff put away and were in the truck on our way home when someone said it...... "Let's cut loose one more time".
Three hours and four miles later we hit a county road and were a LONG, LONG way from the trucks....

Posted by LEE on 10-24-2003 04:04 AM:

The last last drop

Recently "two days ago" myself and several others "no names "but one guy has a well know PKC winning redbone from texas and the other guy has a good veiw of Michigans red sunsets. anyhow we had somehow manage to consume the last drop of refreshments "we had help" it was 5:00 am. so we cut a couple hounds loose for the last drop of the night .the hike was on .two hours later Scott and myself were being picked up on a michigan highway by a 17 year old amish kid ,with no drivers liscence and no prior driving experience. He had been left with the truck as we walked into the dogs,we reached him by handheld radio and he came around to get us along with a huge Michigan swamp coon and two tired female redbones one with half an ear ripped off in a the fracuss .the Texan had fallen asleep in the swamp and was having trouble navagating,The sun was up and the hangover was in full swing. We had finished up the night drinking moonshine and cider it was all that was left.

lesson ; when you get to the last drop never make a last drop!!!

Our Classic "Little Oaks" Event

Labor Day weekend...2003.

After a night of slick trees, muckets, and a dog that decided to lay down in the woods and take a nap.......we wisely decide to kick 'em loose again.

Two hours and one skunking later a dog (who shall remain nameless to protect the guilty) finally slides underneath a coon. Twenty minutes and a refresher course on morse code by hunting light later, two hunters with the trucks decide that, "hey, maybe we could drive over and pick the other guy up!"

Evening ends. Swear never to make, "one more drop again".

I NEVER SAY ONE MORE DROP, LEARNED THAT A LONG TIME AGO LOL

Posted by rmcmillan on 10-08-2010 12:42 AM:

WHEN MY BROTHER AND I WERE KIDS AND HUNTED WITH OUR FATHER, WE WOULD HAVE A GOOD HUNT AND TREE A COUPLE. WE WOULD BE GETTING READY TO HEAD HOME AND HE WOULD ALWAYS SAY I KNOW ANOTHER QUICK SPOT DOWN THE ROAD. WELL WE WOULD USUALLY BE LOOKING FOR THE DOGS TWO OURS LATER.

WE EVEN HAD ONE PLACE THAT I WOULD REFUSE TO GO TO IT WAS A NICE PLACE BUT DOGS WOULD GET OUT OF HEARING QUICK.

WE MADE IT A RULE THAT WE USUALLY FOLLOW NOW....

EVEN IF WE TREE A COON QUICK, WE ALWAYS TRY TO END IT ON A GOOD NOTE!

THAT WAY, WE DONT LEAVE OURSELVES OPEN FOR TRAGEDY, AND WE HAVE NOTHING TO GRIPE ABOUT THE NEXT DAY. LOL.

Lol I like this thread its a unwritten rule not to say the a phrase "one more drop" my group has another phrase the we don't say is when walkin in to the dogs treed we don't say "I bet we got an albino coon" lol always ends up a den tree or a slick. Hell might be just my dogs to though lol but when u use the two phrases in my group its gets the guys stirred up
