Ya, I grew up listening to jerry and charlie douglas on vinyl. They ain't none like that anymore.

Posted by starplott on 01-27-2012 03:05 AM:

He did come up with some good stuff. I loved his She Coon of Women Libbers, lyin Coon dog, oh heck...I can go on.

Still today I think of his goat baptism, where they decided just to sprinkle and let him go to hell, LOL.

JERRY CLOWER WAS UN-DOUBTLY THE FUNNIEST MAN TO EVER LIVE!!! AND, HE DIDN'T HAVE TO BE VULGAR TO DO IT!!! I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE MET HIM, AND HE WAS THE REAL DEAL!!!

Posted by starplott on 01-27-2012 06:59 AM:

Patrick Mcmannis was another. Funny as hell. Had him sign a book of his for my mother's husband. He didn't seem that talkative or that funny in person, but what he wrote...was epic (as my kids say these days).

I miss the quality of a lot of the old stuff. Too much stupid humor and vulgar stuff today. The old stuff was life applicable.

WAS HE THE GUY THAT WROTE THE HUMOR COLUMN FOR OUTDOOR LIFE?

Posted by starplott on 01-27-2012 07:52 AM:

Not sure.

He wrote Never Sniff A Gift Fish, They Shoot Canoes, Don't They, The Night The Bear Ate Goombaw, Kerplunck, The Grasshopper Trap, etc

Mcmanus now writes murder mysteries, must have wrote down everything funny already.

YEP, THAT'S HIM, I RECOGNIZE SOME OF THOSE TITLES!!! HE, TOO, HAD A WAY WITH WORDS!!! I'M NOT SURE IF HE STILL WRITES FOR OUTDOOR LIFE, BUT I'VE 'BUSTED A GUT' MANY TIMES READING HIS STUFF!!!

Posted by starplott on 01-27-2012 08:26 AM:

I'm afraid he doesn't write outdoor humor anymore like he use to.

Last decade writes murder mystery series. I haven't read any of his new stuff.

I remember Clower doing one that I liked about making biscuits years ago. Haven't seen IT among all of the stuff on Youtube. There is one called 'My momma made bisuits" out there but it is not the one I recall!

Posted by Bluedogman on 01-27-2012 04:47 PM:

Yep Justin was another very interesting character! One time he was cookin something and he measured his salt by puttin it in his hand. He said "Y'all think this is not accurate?" He poured it in a teaspoon and it measured exactly a teaspoon.
