Ticked Off

I bought a blue english female over the phone on friday , then made shipping arrangements with a hauler. talked to the guy who had her advertised on the board on saturday and told him. He was gonna pm me his address so i could send out the money. I had a message this moring saying he sold the dog to someone else for more $. That made me mad as heck.I had practically gave another dog away to make room. Just wanted to vent alittle over this deal. Some peoples word is useless! thanks for reading.

And we all know who the guy is, it was a nice looking female too. I dont blame you a bit for being mad. If you cant trust a mans word, what else is there?

Have you ever sold a dog from a post on this message board? If you haven't, maybe you should try. EVERYBODY'S money is either in the mail or they are sending it tomorrow first thing in the morning. You are correct my friend...some folks word is as useless as an elevator in an outhouse. There are ways to PROVE that you are interested without "the money is in the mail"....Western Union, Paypal, etc. Hope this helps.

I have sold many dogs on ukc site. I also know you can send money by wire but this was on friday night and the guy didnt say he had a problem with a money order. He just got greedy in my oppinion. I guess i will have one less mouth to feed is the upside.

Posted by barryg35 on 05-16-2010 09:16 PM:

not EVERYONE is greedy and dis-honest i been holding a dog for about 3 weeks for a guy. he needed a little time getting up all the money. now he has paid half of it and has a couple more weeks to come up with the rest. ive had several other offers and one was for more $. but i promised this dog to the guy and he sent me half.

I know everyone is not that way. To be honest i have never had a problem off the site from anyone on the buying or selling which is why this sort of shocked me. barryg35 you are to be commended for your honesty. djames

Well look at it this way, atleast you won't be on here next week venting because you bought a chiteater that wasn't as advertised.

Posted by Josh Flatten on 05-16-2010 09:43 PM:

That surely gets the blood flowing. Off topic, but it reminds me of a deal I had last week. I've got a nice little single horse trailer advertised for sale. Guy calls up a few weeks ago, asks about twenty questions, tries to talk me down on price, says he cant afford it, calls back, says he'll take it. Calls back and says something came up and he can't afford it. Calls me back two days later and asks if he can pay some now and some later, I say fine, smiling because I know I'll never see the money. I get a check two days later in the mail for 175$$ short of my asking price for the trailer, from some woman??? A day later he calls and says he thinks he can afford it now, he'll meet me in 3 days. I say great, then I'll just give you the check you sent me and you can pay cash like I said in the first place. OK OK all hunky dori.

Now, up to this point, I've tried my best to be a nice guy about all this non sense, and it was amusing in the beginning, but now he's calling during work, asking the same questions etc. I am extremely busy with work and to boot I have a really bad temper and my fuse has been lit. .............

The day he is supposed to meet me to pay for the trailer at 1 pm, he calls me at 11 am. I am on the last rung of a 6 ft ladder, squeezed between two water lines so tight I can't take a full breath, pumping up a 1" pex water line. If you've ever done that, you know I wasn't a happy plumber.

"Hi, this is Todd, say, I hate to do this but I found a two horse trailer I want to look at before..............................................."

I flew down off the ladder, and started giving this dude the business, saying words I'm not proud I said, and told him if he ever called my phone again, I would drive to where he lives, and cut his fingers off with a tube cutter. (had one in my hand)

After I had cooled off, me and the guy I plumb with had a good laugh about it.

I just don't understand some peoples mentality. If I tell someone I will come buy a dog, horse, whatever on X day at X oclock, I will be there with the money in hand.
If you are not sure, don't have the money, don't have time, what is wrong with just being honest and saying so?? Like. Man If I can come up with XXX$ I will call you back and meet you on Sunday, or...Hey, I have to ask my wife, and if I can get her to sign on, It's a done deal.

Dam! That's a good story.

Posted by EnglishBabe on 05-16-2010 11:05 PM:

Here is my story....Had a lady come to buy a pup, ended up taking 2, give me a personal check (yeah, dumb, dumb, dumb) asks me to hold it to Friday. In the mean time, I misplaced the check (found it in the frig freezer...don't ask). She stopped payment on the check. No big deal, she says she is sending out a bank check, waited and waited, never came. Got a bit growly with her, she sends up another personal check by UPS overnight, put said check in bank. 2 weeks later it comes back no good, call her and once again she says she is sending a money order, never get it! Now I'm getting MAD! Told her I needed the money or I was going to dm to hand in the bad check, so she sends me SOME of the money by Western Union, tells me she will send the other part next week, well I'm still waiting. I will NEVER again take a personal check, she made me gun shy. It's either cash, money order or western union from now on. Oh and no papers to the money is good and in the bank!

BUT if I say I am buying a dog, you can better bet that person gets the money. No money, no sale is going to be my motto from now on!

I don't deal much but I have always felt it rude to pay by check on a dog deal where you don't know the buyer from Adam. The few I have sold, I always put in my ad "cash, no trades". Never had anyone come with anything but cash. But again, a couple Nt Ch's and a few pups is all I have ever sold.

Posted by on 05-17-2010 01:29 AM:

I could share a story about a dog I sold recently but all it would show is how much of a fool I really am. I guess selling a young dog for the most money you've ever sold one ain't such a big deal if the guy never pays for the dog. Still waiting for payment and hoping for a happy ending.

Once in awhile you have to test humanity just to find out if the human race is as immoral and pathetic as some say it is.

Great story is right!

I had a guy call want want to buy 2 puppies, a male & a female. I agreed to meet him half way. The morning I was getting ready to leave, I called him to say I was running late and he tells me " I was just getting ready to call you. My wife and I just got back from the hospital and we have H1N1. We'll be quarenteed for 2 weeks. After that I'll cbe going to Florida and I'll stop by and pick up the pups." Never heard from him again. I even called him to see if they were alright.
Why do people lie? Just call and say you changed your mind. I got no respect for this guy no more.

I have never sold too many dogs but to me there is nothing ticks me off anymore than someone telling me they will be here on this day at this time and never show up and don't bother to call to say they can't make it.

Jim, i sold a dog on here once and the guy printed out the ad with an attached contract to it and had me sign it, which was fine by me. but then he turns around pays me with a personal check? found it very ironic

well i have sold and bought several dogs off the ukc site. when selling you at least have to give the person who has bought the dog a chance to pay. i bought this dog on the phone on a friday night and no way to pay the guy till monday which he agreed upon as well as the price. then he sells the dog to someone else on sat. after i have made arrangements with a dog hauler and everything. he sold her for more money then has the nerve to send me a message and say if she dont work out for this other guy she will be available again. get real man. he could'nt give her to me now. david james

Great stories, LOL! I try to assume everyone is honest until they prove otherwise. Most people really do mean well, but some over commit and cannot follow through and many are too proud or stubborn to do the honorable thing. Percentage wise there are very few flat out crooks in the Coonhound World, but they do exist. Thinking back thirty years, I could write a book…

Posted by on 05-18-2010 02:34 PM:

Some time ago I forced myself to committ to one little rule.....never call the seller until the next day. Always sleep on it before you call.
I see these tremendous power crosses being made and I think man, I gotta have one of those. You get all excited, make the call, tell the guy you'll take one, where do I send my deposit. Then the next day youi realize what a hole that 400 dollar pup is gonna put in your budget and that 500 mile drive is no longer just an afterthought. But you committed and you can't turn back now.
But I think alotta guys do turn back the next day and I bet most of them have wives. But I don't. So a few weeks later I'm down at Batesville picking up another pup.

Posted by jackbob42 on 05-18-2010 06:23 PM:

Notice that most of the stories are about the buyer being the bad guy? ( changes his mind , bad check , doesn't show , etc. )
Why is that?
I've had it happen enough times that if someone walks up with cash , he's getting the dog. ( or whatever )
However , I would tell the person that right up front.

I sold a trailer a couple weeks ago.
Gal calls and says she wants it. Says they're moving out of state , and need the trailer. Wanted to know if I wanted cash or check? LOL
Told her cash and that another guy was coming to look at it and if he had the cash , he was getting it.
If she would have left when she said she was going to , they would have been here in time. But , she called and said she was running late.(2 hrs.)
Wound up , they drove 2 hours for nothing as the other guy bought it when they pulled in the driveway.
Kinda felt bad for them , but they knew the rules.
