Strike points question... AGAIN

How is Dog D strike points handled in each of these four scenarios?

1. Dogs are struck A,B,C,D, Rabbit is circled and seen. A line is called and dogs A,B,and C score on line. Shortly after that line is lost and 3 minutes get dogs for no forward progress.

2. Dogs are Struck A,B,C,D, Three lines are scored by dogs A,B,C. Dog D misses all 3 lines.

3.Dogs are Struck A,B,C,D. Rabbit is circled and seen. A line is called and scored by dogs A,B,C. Before the line was scored it was agreed upon by cast to catch dogs and move to new ground after line was scored.

4. Dogs are struck A,B,C.D. Rabbit is circled and seen. A line is called and dogs A,B,C score line. Dogs continue to trail line and it leads them to a busy road handlers agree to catch dogs for safety reasons.

Situations 1 & 2- Dog D gets -50 because majority of cast was struck in at time of loss. IF RABBIT WENT TO PLACE OF REFUGE, then dog D would get + strike points but no line points.

Situation 3- If dog D clearly missed the line, then the line has been scored and catch the dogs.

Situation 4- Dog D gets + strike points due to rabbit seen and interference called.

I believe these to be correct, you might want someone to confirm it for you. I hope this helped, Hunter Hall

Kevin, are you sure about #4. Dog D was struck in & the rabbit was seen. Interference was called, so therefore his strike points would be +. If the rabbit had not been seen and interference had been called, the the points would be circled. I'm sure you've been doing this longer then I have, but I do believe I'm right on this one.

First of all ther is no such thing as "interference" in beagles, If dogs are in danger time out is called and unless a line has been scored ALL POINTS are circled

This is where ALOT of people get screwed up, they think just because a rabbit is seen they plus the strikes, WRONG I learned this rule several years ago in a winners pack the HARD way, Dogs jumped a rabbit in front of the whole cast, my dog having first strike, They ran across a yard where a BIG Doberman came after them, the judge (Denny Dugan) called time out and plussed the strikes, at the end of 2 hrs my dog had won BUT the call was questioned by MATT TURNER and was overturned by the MOH knocking me from 1st to 3rd. This is one rule I'll NEVER FORGET. Huh TURNER? LOL!!!!

strike points

not being smart ,but why asking this about dog d he clearly lost i would be more interested in knowing how the dogs getting the lines are struck. not trying to offend just curious

No particular reason for using Dog D other than was avoiding dog C. Because C would be struck for 50 and that would be equal to minus points in some of the answers. Also the dogs getting the lines strike points are locked in so the answers would be obvious.

hallmountain , the rabbit was circled "but" dog D did not score line before the dogs were picked up, handlers agreed to pick em' up. Are you thinking maybe if hunt time has expired but rabbit was seen by majority and dogs are struck and trailing?
I'm guessing this is all hypothetical?
MDH68 in 4. when dogs were picked up where was dog D? past where the line was called, did the alotted time expire on the line?, Just things that were going through my head, no need to answer. Dog D didn't have a very good day huh?LOL!!!!

1,2 and 3 why would dog D get the stick points just not the line points? This happend to me once, my dog didn't make it accross the line within the time limit. She was still on the line just not as fast as the others, so she go the strike points just not the line points.

Posted by Jeremy Mapes on 02-10-2010 03:26 PM:

If they don't score the line they haven't secured their strike points.

D.B.- I was on a cast probably about 2 years ago. We were hunting an area beside a baseball field and there were houses nearby. We saw a rabbit sitting out in the grass when we got there, and we all decided to split on it. Shortly after splitting on it one of the housedogs from a nearby house came over and was interfering with out cast. Judge called "interference" and plussed the strikes. We then saw another rabbit and split on it, once again the housedog came over and interfered, plus strike points. This is my only experience with "interference" in the past, so that is why I assumed "interference" was called in situation #4 and dog D's strike points were plussed.

hallmountain, your judge was wrong! should have circled the strike points unless you guy's scored a line, or if the rabbit is seen and the hunt time runs out and dogs are trailing the rabbit that was seen, only then are the strike points plused. Hope this helps in the future. Correct me if i'm wrong feller's. Dusty

Kevin and Scott are right!
Easy way to remember if strikes get plused.
1. Score line
2. Majority of cast or non-hunting judge sees rabbit and it goes to place of refuge or hole.
3. Majority of cast or non-hunting judge sees rabbit and time runs out in hunt.
4. Dogs catch rabbit.
These are the only 4 ways to get plus strike points.
In 1 and 2 dogs A,B, and C get minused 50 and dog D gets minus 25. Of course A,B and C get there plus points.

Dave (Sundown)

How would you minus dog D 25?All dogs are struck in and lose the track so all keep strike points(rabbit was seen)and minus 50.

Posted by MDH68 on 02-11-2010 12:55 AM:

All hypothetical. These questions seem to be common on casts.

Mike

Posted by Sundown Beagles on 02-11-2010 01:40 AM:

Hiljack your right in #1 all would get minused 50. In #2 dog D gets minused 25. Sorry should have read it closer. Great catch.

Posted by justsandm on 02-11-2010 04:54 AM:

hilljack

To clarify, Dog D does NOT get his strike points because he didn't score the line. You must score a line to get your strike points +

All scenarios should end the same. Dog D gets sold.

Justandme, you are correct. Score a line or hole the rabbit...... the 4 reasons Dave mentioned are the ONLY way to plus strike points.
