The only reason I don't hunt on Sunday is because State law say's I can't. When I have lived in other States some of my best hunting was on Sundays.

Well, I didn't vote because...

I do, but I dont hunt on Sundays.

If we hunt on Saturday night, it usually rolls over to Sunday.

But, We do not go hunting on Sunday night, even after 12.

Sunday Hunting

Hillbilly here and this conversation really " TIC'S ME OFF " about this sunday hunting thing. You see I live here in WVA too Bear Hunter and last year they started letting people hunt on sunday in my neck of the woods, but only on private land which I have plenty of . It was just enough to tease all of us a little bit because they started stoping it in different countys working there way right down the list untill they hit my favorite place of Webster Co. They say that they was fare about this issue, but I think it's a bunch of B.S. Why mix politics with a tradition that was here before there silly games were ever thought of. I guess maybe I should'nt complain because never could hunt before on sunday but dag-gone when you freaking work six days a week sunday hunting is pretty dog gone good. And another thing it was very unfair to have these votes during the working mans WORK HOUR'S. Why not have all voteing done on SUNDAY I believe it was just there way of getting it throughed out. BUT HELL WHAT DO I KNOW. ALL HUNTER'S SHOULD STAND TOGETHER NO MATTER WHAT THEY HUNT IN THIS AMERICAN TRADITION????

The LORD said to rest on Sunday and that is what I try to do. NEVER turn loose on Sunday, Saturday nite does run over an hour or two sometimes. Personal thing with me!

I can remember a story of a gentleman, who was in Church on Sunday, when asked whether or not it was OK to hunt on Sunday, He said 'The Lord said to Rest on Sunday' and sometimes it is very restful and relaxing to hunt.' The sound of those dogs doing what they love can be very relaxing. If the question is truly based on religion then why not ban fishing on Sunday. Now don't get me WRONG here, my policy with my boys and myself is we can stay out all night (hunting) if you want to, but you better be in Church come Sunday morning, no complaining. I think this is part of setting a good example for them. We should be in the Lord's house on Sunday.
I also think for those who hunt on Sunday, to respect those who are having family gatherings or church. Don't hunt near the churches or if you know people who are having family gatherings,(This is especially true for deer dog hunters) Try to be a little less visible, when possible. We're running into alot of problems, due to people not showing others enough respect.

As for me, I'll usually be in Church on Sunday, but I may hunt Sunday night or after midnight on Saturday.

The reason I think sunday hunting is good, is for the working man or women, they often work all week and cant hunt, so let them at least have saturday and sunday to hunt. I see nothing wrong with sunday hunting. It is allowed here in Ohio.

Somebody's gonna have to give me a book, chapter, and verse where it says the words not to hunt on Sunday. I know to honor the Sabbath and keep it Holy. It may be God, the Pastor, and me on Sunday morning, but it's God and me out in the woods. Sometimes the closet I feel to God, is when I'm alone hunting.

Nice Gopher

Let us not forget the only reason were here is for the glory of GOD. We all loose track sum of the time but Sunday we should try to keep the sabboth day holy. Is hunting a little later in the evening gonna hurt anyhing?? I think not but, lets make sure we honor him in all we do and think him for the ability to stumble around in the woods. Not to mention the hounds and that nice F250 that got u there. These events that have a prayer before, seem to me to be the ones I have a better time at and, see more sportsmanship. God doesnt care if ur in a closet or deep in the hollow chasen coon, as long as he is your main event, u cant go wrong.

Mathhew 10:11 vs 28 - 30
"" Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give u rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

SUNDAY HUNTING

IT IS UP TO A INDIVIUAL IF HE/SHE WISH TO HUNT ON SUNDAY.BUT ALL THESE BIBLE ANSWER IF YOU READ THE OLD TEST.IT SAYS THAT GOD RESTED ON 7 DAY AND ON MY WEEKLY CALENDER SATURDAY WAS THE 7 DAY.BUT THAT MY OPINION IN BUT IF WE READ AND NOT JUST START TALKING ABOUT INFO WE, REALLY NEED TO UNDERSTAND CERTAIN THINGS IF YOU HAD TO WORK YOU WOULD BE RIGHT THERE WITH A CUP OF COFFEE, AND NOT A BIBLE.IF HUNTING IS NOT ALLOWED ON SUNDAYS SO FROM NOW ON WHAT WE NEED TO DO AS COONHUNTERS (ME TOO)WE CATCH OUR HOUNDS AT 12 MIDNIGHT AND GO HOME. P.S MY FATHER IS A PASTOR.

Posted by John Carroll on 08-26-2003 02:34 PM:

I am a pastor, and I often go hunting on Sunday night after church. I could go into a lot of reasons theologically why I believe this is all right, but this isn't the place for that , really. In short, a careful study of the New Testament reveals that the Holy Spirit is our rest, and that as His temple, we should keep every day holy unto the Lord.

I have often had sweet communion with Him out in the woods alone, even on Sunday nights.

I get a lot of sermon thoughts while I am out hunting, meditating on the Word while I am waiting for a strike, or for the dogs to tree.

I believe if a person has a conviction against Sunday hunting, by all means honor it. But I don't believe there is a Scriptural prohibition against it.

A lot of times after a good Sunday night service, my adrenaline is going so strong that it helps me unwind a little bit to go out and tree a couple. I often take young guys from church with me, too. I get a lot of counseling and mentoring done in the timber.

Good topic.

Well for those of you that live in NC.......don't shoot him out after 1200 Sat night or you'll go to jail,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and for those of you that are so hell bent and determined to NOT hunt on Sunday......do you go fishing on Sunday???? Whats the difference???? There is none. I also think its tuff for Construction workers that hunt that are on 6 12 hour days. And then their only day off is Sunday and they can't hunt.........As the reverend said. The Scripture does not impose a hunting ban on Sunday,,,,,,the politicos do. Just a bunch of Jackasses and Dumbos!!!!! Thats about all I gotta say bout that..........TCB

I do not have a strong opinion about hunting on Sunday but reading these posts brings up an interesting point. I was not aware that some states prohibited hunting on Sunday. You can not buy alcohol in Louisiana on Sunday...Presumably because it is the sabbath and is a day of faith and religon. I do not condem nor condone drinking or hunting on Sunday but what happened to seperation of church and state? The courts have the audacity to remove the Ten Commandments in Alabama and tell school children they have to leave God outside their schools. They forbid us to Pray at graduations and athletic events. They try to remove the words "UNDER GOD" from the pledge yet a person and their friends or family can't hunt on Sunday bacause they want to observe the sabbath. There is something not quite right here. Am I missing something or have I misunderstood the intentions of the law?

The animal rights activists love these laws that ban hunting on Sundays. If you don't believe me do some research and find out who is leading the fight to keep states from allowing Sunday hunting. Here is the Humane Society's point of view: http://www.hsus.org/ace/14095 When North Dakota overturned a law that prevented shopping malls from being open on Sundays a few years ago I don't remember seeing the Humane Society or anyone else trying to stop that from going through. Why is hunting the only activity not allowed on Sunday? I think if you truely believe that hunting should not be allowed on Sunday you should also be pressing for laws to keep all non esential business from being open on Sundays. If not then you should be joining the fight to overturn these Sunday hunting laws whether you hunt on Sunday or not.

Sunday Hunting

If hunting on Sunday makes a difference in your relationship with the Lord don't hunt. But please don't expect be to believe that christians don't hunt on Sunday.

Sunday night after Church may be the best time to hunt. Very little activity from the rest of the world. Everyone is home catching up on sleep from the weekend. Monday night late also offers little activity from other folks.
