Bad weather here has us shut down. Good old mother nature robbed us out of our best three weeks this year. About the time the hides got prime the snow started.

Posted by blueticker on 12-19-2008 03:55 PM:

Went last night and treed two. The young dog struggled on the ground but ended up treeing on a big broken down oak without a coon and then crossed a big creek and booticked around for 20 minutes before throwing in the towel. Sent Rebel twice, he wasn't on the ground 10 minutes either dump and fell treed both times with a coon. Both trees were small and the coon squalled out for the pups to grab and chase up anouther tree close by. Sure was good for the pups. Zack's pup has a huge mouth when he climbs on a tree. With that mouth he will be special if he makes a top hound.

If it's dark one can tree 3 to 6 singels when the temp. isn't below 25 deg.

I attended the blue hunt in Angola two years ago the middle of May. Kitten coon were out and pretty good size. They must be born in February.

You don't see kittens around here until mid to late June. We normally have those long boar races in Januay/February. Don't understand why they breed earlier in the north.

Coon

Coon are like cats, they will keep coming back into season tell they are bred. That is why you will have different age kits in the same area. Most of the time here it is obvious to tell when the coon are breeding. Most all the coons you tree on the outside will have two in the tree. Boar and Sow of course.

Last NIght

Went last night made a tree in a den, could see the coon in there. Smoked the whole and a boer and a sow came out. And no **** I watched them suckers breed in the top of that tree. After that I squalled and the boer came down, gave that blue pup a hell of a fight but the pup won it. Good for him, he couldnt get enough. Deffinatley ruttin hard right now!!!

Have been treeing 2 or 3 a night, haven't had any real long races but the dog has had to go deep a few times to find one. Have treed 2 in the same tree a couple of times the last few weeks, but didn't noticed any boars that were swelled up, or the hair on the back of their neck looking much different.
All coons taken have been medium to big size, no little or kittens coons have been seen. I hunt in and around south central Indiana. I have enough places around here that I usually won't hunt a certain place more than once in a week and half, and at this time of year I usually start doing things a little different, like not turning loose exactly in the same spot(turning loose on the other end of the property etc.), keeping my light off the best I can until the dogs are treed, just trying to give the dogs what advantage I can.
This week we've been iced up, went to a ukc hunt last Saturday and haven't been since. I am goig tonight and tomorrow though. Wanted to go to the ukc hunt in Rushville tonight, but it's a two hour drive and I can't get off work in time.
