LOOKING TO BUY A NEW TRACKING SYSTEM. IVE ALREADY SOLD MY OLD ONE. IT WAS A WILDLIFE TRX3 . VERY GOOD TRACKING SYSTEM IN MY OPINION ! THINKING ABOUT BUYING ONE OF THE SMALL POCKET SIZE TRACKERS . THINK THEIR CALLED THE TRAKER CLASSICS AND TRACKER MAXIMAS. HEARD THEY WEREN'T ALL THEY WERE CRACKED UP TO BE . HUNT AROUND ALOT OF THICK SWAMPS ! LET ME KNOW YOUR OPIONIONS ON THOSE TRACKERS ! I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO HAVE ONE THAT IS REAL COMPACT LIKE THAT ! FEEL ME IN GUYS !
re
I KNOW SOMEBODY ON THIS SITE HAS ONE OF THESE TRACKING SYSTEMS AND CAN TELL ME IF IT'S A POS OR IF IT'S THE BEST THING SINCE LIGHT BREAD
I DONT KNOW ABOUT THOSE IN SWAMPS, BUT HERE IN THE MOUNTAINS THEY ARENT THAT GREAT.
BEST ALL AROUND TRACKING SYSTEM WE'VE FOUND IS A QUICK TRACK. THEY ARE SUPER IN THE MOUNTAINS AND EVEN BETTER IN THE FLATLANDS.

Tracker Maxima
My name is Jen and I work for Tracker. I just wanted to step in and give you a little more information. I don't want you to count out the Maxima just yet. I believe everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I think it is unfair to say you have never heard a good thing about the Maxima. Just like anything else, it has its pros and cons, I'm sure.
Here are a few threads, on this forum, discussing tracking systems that have a lot of feedback on the Maxima, and other equipment as well.

I have a maxima 5000 and you cannot beat it. I use mine ALL the time. Good thing to have when you're out in the timber and you want to know what your dog is doing. Very good for training pups to know when they are on the tree and when they are not.
They are excellent for competition hunts. As a guide, I can just type in the collar frequency of whoever lost their dog and tell them exactly where their dog can be found without having to run back to the truck for the tracker.
If you know how to use one correctly, they are no better/no worse than any other tracker. In my eyes, I'd rather be out in the woods knowing where my dog is, rather than having to walk back to the truck just to find out he's a mile beyond where I just came from!

I have the tracker classic and It works great. I hunt in some hills and swamps and I have never had any trouble at all. Its small and doesnt get in the way. If you only need to track 2 dogs at a time that is the way I would go. I dont really know about range but I know we have taken the collars around 2 miles down the road and it picked them up fine. If your dog is farther than 2 miles get rid of it. Get a tracker you will like it!!

I just had the strike collars but I just traded them in on the marshall collars because everyone seems to love them. So you like those 2 in a combo huh??

yeah, a guy that i hunt with has one of each, a striker collar and a marshall. The marshalls are a bit harder to pin point when your right ontop of your dog because of the powerful signal but the striker collars beep twice as slow and the range blows.

Tracker maxima
I have had mine for a little over 2 years and I really like it. I also use the marshall collars and think the two combined are great. I had problems with it at first but once I became used to it I can track a dog just as well as the big system. I used it down at the winter classic last year and it worked fine. I hunt a lot of brush and big timber in the summer and it is a little different then hunting in the winter.

Ive had a maxima for years and used it from Indiana to Alabama without any problems at all... Love it!
the maxima is also a great system in my opinion. Definately different and takes a lil time to get used to it. It doesnt have an antenuator, therefor you ranges are gonna be completely different, also you can track different ammounts of dogs. I like the fact that you can store collar numbers in the system. I think up close the classics prolly track slightly better, but way out the maximas have a slightly better range. JMO

What is the realistic range of the Maxima in timber and heavy cover. I know that is has more to do with the collar than the receiver.
idk for sure, id say EASILY a few miles in thick timber and hills.
